Sol Vestitor: New Age of God

Chapter 16: A Teacher Responsibility

After the internet is back online, life starts to get back on its track. People start working and students are starting to get back to school.

The most contrast differences are the governments are overtaken by the temples, even if they tried to integrate themselves into the temples as best as they can, there is still new power and faction in power.

Each city government is on their own and there is no centralized government anymore, travel to another city is currently impossible, land and air travel is highly dangerous.

Currently, the most dominant power in the world is the temple of Jupiter as Jupiter is perceived as the strongest God.

While the weakest temple is the temple of Minerva and temple of Vesta, both temples don't have any Heir, but in their place, they have a priestess chosen by their God to form their faction.

This priestess was going around trying to get other God's Heir to join their faction, but so far there is no news of success.

Meanwhile, Sol gets an email from the school, telling him that school will start the next day.

"can life be the same after all this change?" he lamented.

The next day, the first thing he does is reporting to the principal office. There he meets with an unfamiliar face.

"excuse me ma'am" Sol greet her.

"Come in, you may seat." She told him. "nice to meet you, Mr. Vestitor. My name is Eva, I'm the new principal of this school" she continues.

"it's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am," Sol says politely

Eva is a woman in her late 20s, she has short black hair and she wears glasses, even though people don't need to use glasses anymore since that day, she still wears it to look professional.

"So Mr. Vestitor, the old vice-principal has filed a report that you are supposed to be responsible for the students that went up the mountain. Do you have anything to say about this?"

"Err... Ma'am every teacher that went with us is equally responsible for this, none of us try to stop them or told them to go."

"It's ok, Mr. Vestitor, you don't need to be nervous. We are not here to push the blame, everything that happened is out of our expectation, there is no way we can anticipate this."

"I'm sorry ma'am" he apologizes. "so what you want to talk to me about?"

"You may not have heard about it but this school is currently under the temple of Minerva. Almost every institution is under at least one of the temples and it just happens that this school is under us" She told him.

"every temple agree that schools need to be adjusted so our kids can adapt to the change in this new world, we decide to teach the student how to survive in case there is an emergency or creature attack"

"and what do you want from me, ma'am?" Sol tilts his head, Miya's behavior has rub into him.

"We have heard about your exploits, how you survive alone up in the mountain. So, we want you to teach the student how to survive in a similar situation." She looks him in the eye.

"The fuck!? How am I supposed to teach students to be lucky?" Sol lament to himself.

"I'm sorry ma'am but I don't think that I'm qualified for the job" he tries to decline.

"I know this is sudden, but you are the best we have, another school teacher is elite from their temple or even an Heir, but we believe you can be a stand-in for those elites."

"as a teacher, I believe you can do your best for your students" she persuaded him.

"ugh... fine" he mumbles to himself. "I will try my best to meet your expectation," he says.

Sol used the rest of the day to call the parents of students in his class that died that day. He told them the bad news one by one.

Even though everyone already knows that if their family doesn't return after that day, they are most likely to have died, but by hearing the news directly, it dashes any hope they keep in their heart.

Sol heard many grieves and cries, some just cry silently, some blame him for their son's and daughter's death, while some just can't be called at all. They may be busy or may be dead as well.

With every call, Sol becomes more and more depressed, he feels like crying. He blames himself for all their losses, even if he can't do anything about it, but he also feels that he should be responsible for their well being, that is part of being a teacher.

The last call he makes is to Sasha's parents, he decided to call them the last because he feels the most guilt in her death. He was there at her last moment but he can't do anything.

If time can be rewind, he wishes he had got there faster and saved her before it's too late.

Sol's tell both of them about how he met her and how she ends up. Both of them cry and he feels sorry for everything more than anything.

"Ma'am, can we meet? I want to give you something that belongs to Sasha" Sol told them, but unfortunately they were in another city when that day comes so they can't meet him.

He promises them that he will keep her necklace until he can give it to them.

That day he gets back home even more tired than he was when he got back from the mountain. He gets straight to bed, sleeping with Miya in his arm without any complaint.
