Chapter 8 The Final Candidate of the Super Soldier

Chapter 8 The Final Candidate of the Super Soldier

The next day, early morning.

Luke, appointed by the military, packed some simple luggage, took the excited Rogers, and took a special car to the Caspian Training Camp in New Jersey.

Before setting off, they met several important personnel of the Strategic Science Corps.

For example, Colonel Phillips with a serious face.

The creator of the Super Soldier Serum, Dr. Abraham Erskine.

Famous Howard Stark of New York.

There is also Agent Carter, who maintains a glamorous expression as always.

and many more……

The Strategic Science Corps is a temporary organization specially established by the Allies in order to win the war.

It was personally approved by President Roosevelt and the heads of European countries.

Gathering elites from various fields, the main purpose is to fight the Hydra of the Third Reich - an evil organization whose symbol is the monster Hydra.

The secondary purpose is to implement the "Super Soldier" plan to end this war that is sweeping the world.

Hydra's current leader is called John Schmidt, nicknamed "Red Skull".

It is said that he was Hitler's confidant.

More powerful than Heinrich Hielem, who participated in the establishment of the SS and served as the head of the secret police Gestapo.

"Actually, Red Skull may not be the founder of Hydra..."

Sitting in the back of the delivery truck, Luke thought, rocking from side to side.

He remembered mentioning in the manga that the orthodox HYDRA originated quite early enough to go back farther back.

Red Skull just used this name and changed the concept to make it a useful tool.

In this regard, he has some similarities with Adolf Hitler, who was once regarded as an idol by the Third Reich.

"Luke, do you think we'll meet Bucky?"

Rogers asked while holding his luggage.

Thinking of Bucky's surprised expression when he learned that he joined the army and set foot on the battlefield, he couldn't help looking forward to the next meeting between the two.

"Bucky may have set foot on English soil by this time, fighting for freedom."

Luke laughed. He could see why Rogers was so obsessed with serving in the military.

A small man who has been teased and bullied for a long time because of his thin body.

There are often only two paths leading to the future.

Either, like Rogers, still maintain an optimistic and positive attitude;

Either it produces a cynical, self-enclosed negative psychology.

The former are few and the latter many.

And this is probably why Steve Rogers became Captain America.

He is a man who is always on the right path.

Rogers was keen to serve in the army, not out of strong patriotic feelings-he was not the kind of character who was eager to exchange honors for military medals and dreamed of making meritorious deeds.

This thin little man, more likely wants to prove that he is no different from those strong guys.

"Luke, tell me, why did Howard Stark go to the Caspian training camp? Could it be that he was also a recruited soldier?"

Rogers asked curiously.

He didn't know anything about the "Super Soldier" program or the Strategic Science Corps.

I just thought that I went to the Caspian Sea training camp to receive recruit training.

"Stark is not the same as us! He is a scientific advisor! He is an official senior officer!"

Luke shook his head.

As two recruits, how could they compare with Howard Stacker.

The treatment of both parties is different!

Howard Stark was able to take a smooth and comfortable private car, chatting and laughing with a group of senior military officers along the way.

Maybe I will go out to spend time and wine at night, chic and happy.

But he and Rogers could only stay behind the transport truck that was rocking like a pitching ship.

"Get ready for recruit life, Rogers!"

Luke smiled meaningfully.

For Rogers, who is far from being strong, recruit training is not an easy task.

……

……

a week later.

"Are you all right, Rogers?"

Luke, who had finished his heavy cross-country, handed a towel to the thin little man.

He seemed to be fished out of the water, and the outer camouflage uniform was soaked with sweat.

The chest heaved even more violently, as if a bellows was being pulled, making a "whoosh" sound.

Even the regular five-kilometer cross-country is a daunting challenge for Rogers, who has poor physical fitness.

"No, it's okay! I just need to rest... just fine!"

Luke looked at Rogers, who was speaking intermittently, for fear that he would faint suddenly.

Being able to persevere until now, the thin and small man bent over in front of him really has perseverance.

Although every day's training tasks, Rogers is the last to complete, and the result is also the worst.

But in terms of hard work, he is not inferior to others, even worse.

"I feel better! Thank you, Luke!"

After taking a few breaths, Rogers looked up at his friend and smiled gratefully.

His situation might have been worse if it wasn't for Luke's help.

In Rodgers' view, Lehigh training camp is no different from the streets of Brooklyn.

Relying on his strong muscles to bully those who are weaker than him, there are such bastards everywhere.

Fortunately, Luke stood up, otherwise Rogers would become a victim of being beaten by villains in a corner.

"Assemble! Assembly!"

With a sharp whistle, the recruits who had already developed conditioned reflexes trotted over one after another and stood in a neat queue.

Some of them have already experienced disobedience, or what happens when they are assassins.

The glamorous female officer with a British accent was not as weak as she looked on the outside.

In this regard, the recruit who received a punch, Gilmer Hodge has a say - he still has a Band-Aid on the bridge of his nose.

What's more, daily high-intensity physical training is enough to release everyone's excess energy.

"After your observation in the past few days, who is the recruit with the best grades and the best performance?"

Standing not far away, looking at the group of recruits being lectured, Colonel Phillips asked.

"It's Luke Cavill."

Carter, who was holding the score sheet, raised his eyebrows.

She really didn't expect that young man from Brooklyn.

Not only is the marksmanship amazing, but also performed very well in other test items.

Shooting, marching with weights, climbing barbed wire and other physical training.

Luke can easily win the first place and leave No.2 far behind.

"I knew it! Erskine, as I said, Cavill is the most suitable candidate!"

Colonel Phillips clapped his hands and said.

He looked at the tall, strong and powerful Luke in the queue, his eyes full of appreciation.

The other party perfectly fit the colonel's definition and image of a good soldier.

"Wait! We still have time."

Dr. Erskine, who was standing nearby, replied.

His eyes did not stop at Luke, but at Rogers who was particularly conspicuous in the queue.

If you say, super soldiers should choose a strong big guy.

Then, there is absolutely no need for Erskine to carry out this secret selection.

Just pick one out of the army.

In this world, there has never been a shortage of excellent soldiers who know how to obey orders and have strong muscles.

But it is quite difficult to find a good person in the true sense, a "super soldier" who has strength but does not bully the weak.

Erskine knew that he didn't have more time to choose patiently and dig carefully.

Therefore, he can only pin his hopes on Rogers.

That thin, short little man has a rare quality that touches people's hearts!

"You asked me to investigate Rogers' life experience! Yes, he is indeed a...good man! But so what? If the bureaucrats of the committee know that the candidate for the super soldier is a person who is as thin as dry wood and can't even run. Panting little man, what would they think?"

Colonel Phillips said dissatisfied.

In his view, war compares the strength of the two sides, not the character of the soldiers.

"The selection is not over yet, and the time is not up yet! Colonel, let's wait patiently!"

Dr. Erskine is still the answer.

This time, though, his gaze shifted to Luke.
