Superpowers? Yes Please!

Wiping the sweat from his head Lake prepared the last set of herbs.

He rotated the vortex to replenish the energy he had used during the last trial.

Letting out a light breath he looked intently at the final set, "One chance left, if I screw this up I'll have to go buy more herbs."

Upon thinking of spending more money he felt a headache coming on.

Lake had already found the right ratio when making the mixture prior to energy control. It only took a quick instant to finish the preparation.

Lake focused his mind and then slowly willed his energy to surround the mixture and lift it into the air.

At first it's glow was dim and the surface of the liquid was erratic and volatile, like it would erupt at any minute. But as time went on the glow became more radiant and the liquid became calmer.

Time passed and Lake was once again becoming fatigued from controlling his energy. Sweat dripped down his face but he didn't notice as all his focus was on the mixture in front of him.

The previous trial had revealed how unstable his energy control was as the elixir he was making didn't require that much control. When the time came for him to concoct the more elaborate ones the requirements for energy control would be enormous.

"Just a little more! Come on!" At the point of exhaustion Lake persevered with grit teeth, continuously manipulating the energy and purifying the mixture.

Just as his energy reserves were about to deplete a resplendent light flashed and Lake stopped supplying his energy.

In front of him was a ball of glowing blue liquid that had a fresh aroma, as Lake inhaled the fragrance that came from it he felt himself gain a little bit of stamina.

Slowly he manipulated the ball and placed it a small bottle he had prepared beforehand.

At that moment two notifications had sounded from the system.

"Huh?" Lake was surprised that he'd unlocked the last section within the skills tab so suddenly.

"System what are lifestyle skills?"

[Lifestyle skills are skills that correspond to certain occupations within the world. In this case, since the User has unlocked the alchemy skill then he is qualified to become an alchemist.]

Nodding in understanding Lake refocused his gaze onto the elixir. After reading the description of Alchemy he wanted to try something out.

While looking at the elixir he activated the skill and the name of the elixir appeared on it. "Cleansing Elixir."

Underneath the name there was a description of it.

[The Cleansing Elixir is used to cure illnesses, if used on patients that have been physically injured or has been afflicted with a status ailment nothing will occur. After drinking it will take about one day for the illness to clear away. Has no effect on espers.]

With sparkling eyes Lake held the elixir in his hand as he examined it slowly. It had a light blue hue to it and was glowing slightly, but it soon faded and just left the blue liquid behind.

Even though the bottle was sealed the aroma of the elixir still lingered in the room.

Satisfied with his first concoction Lake put the elixir into his inventory and returned back to his room. He looked at the time and saw that about 2 hours had passed while he was concocting.

Most of the time was used on the refining portion. Since Lake had never done something like that it was difficult for him to measure how much energy he was supposed to use.

So though he was successful in making the elixir he had used much more energy than needed, hence the exhaustion after he was done.

The amount of energy he needed was about a 5th of what he used, in the future as his abilities got more powerful his control would enable him to use the precise amount of energy to be successful. So the process wouldn't be as strenuous as today.

Tired from the constant experimenting Lake laid on his bed to take a nap, but it wasn't long before his communicator rang with an unknown number.

But to Lake the call came as no surprise, "About time you called."

Answering the call he heard a voice quietly say, "Hello? Is this Lake?"

"Yes it is."

"Can you really help my sister?" Sure enough it was Selena, the woman who Lake had tailed earlier in the day. Her voice sounded very aggrieved and anxious.

"I guarantee it." Lake said in a firm voice.

She sounded a little more reassured after that but was still nervous. "Then come by tomorrow morning, if you can really help her then I'll give you anything you want!"

"Very well then, I'll make sure she is okay."

Afterwards Selena had given him her address and Lake took a quick nap before going back to the pharmacy and purchasing a few more sets of herbs.

Though he had successfully concocted the elixir he didn't feel like he should use it on anyone yet.

After successfully concocting the Cleansing Elixir the system had registered it and now he was able to instantly make it in exchange for his energy and ingredients.

He had bought enough herbs to make a few more elixirs and activated the alchemy function. After using it he felt his energy being s.u.c.k.e.d away and a bottle filled with blue liquid inside appeared in front of him.

Taking it in his hand Lake opened it slightly and sniffed. To his surprise it was slightly more fragrant than the one he had made. The ones crafted by the system were a little better than his.

After finishing making the elixirs Lake fell asleep and then waking up the next day to go to Selena's house.

Arriving the address he was given Lake was surprised as the home wasn't as big as he thought it would be. Though it was still much bigger than his house.

Walking up to the door he knocked and awaited an answer. Quickly he heard footsteps from beyond the door and then it opened. But to Lake's shock it wasn't Selena who opened the door.

The person looked at Lake in surprise before welcoming him inside, it seemed like they were expecting him to come yet didn't expect who would come. "Come in Lake, Selena is upstairs waiting for you."

The person who stood in the doorway was none other than the Princess, Lyra!
