"-AP OUT OF IT!!"

"JENNY!! SNAP OUT OF IT!!!"

Smack!

A crisp slap rang across the room.

When Jennifer returned to reality, she saw Chai in front of her.

While holding [Nyoi-Bo] on his right hand, the quaint porcelain-colored room had cracks everywhere.

The maroon weapon was impaled on the ceiling and floor.

"W-What happened here?!" (Jen)

She grasped her right cheek.

The throbbing pain was accompanied by a moist feeling on the surface of her face.

He was helping the others to stand back up.

Jen saw his combat suit and helmet had cracks and ch.i.p.s everywhere.

Behind him were Annie, Joy, Lieutenant Johan and Captain Nassah.

With fear-stricken faces, they helped each other to stand.

"Forgive me for asking, but what happened just now? Did you sense danger?" (Lieutenant Johan)

Jennifer told them that he read the Captain's mind…and saw a person she hated the most.

"A-Ah..I, I- I'm so sorry! I didn't realize that I was releasing my powers!" (Jennifer)

She fl.u.s.tered and bowed repeatedly in apology.

She told them that she saw the sc.u.m that plotted to kill her and murdered her fiancé.

Chai's quick reaction to extend the [Nyoi-Bo] was right on point.

Zack instinctively shielded the others from the invisible wave.

The Australian ladies and military men shivered at the sheer thought of how suffocating and heavy Jennifer's psychic force were.

After calming down, Jennifer told them what happened when she was in the Fire Station.

"That despicable person…no wonder he, argh!" (Captain Hassan)

The Captain agreed with Jennifer.

He then continued unfurling the events that followed.

As Captain Nassah pleaded for help, Fat Bill and the Shelter's guards aimed their guns to his head.

"Heh, military man, do you think begging like a dog will get you in? It's the apocalypse now! We've got no time to entertain your sorry as*!" (Fat Bill)

"Those handguns look slick. Hand them over and I MIGHT let you in." (Fat Bill)

He and his crew snickered.

Looking down on the Captain from a five-meters Guard Tower, they felt like kings looking down on ants.

Apparently, paper currency and luxury valuables were worthless in their eyes.

The gang members running the Shelter was given orders to only take food, medicine, clean bottled waters, and weapons in exchange for any other goods.

As the Head of the Guards, Fat Bill determined who comes in who gets shot.

He screamed to his subordinates to open the daunting Main Gate.

Black, heavily patched gates creaked open just enough for one person to come in.

Fat Bill then comes up to the Captain and 'receives' his bribes.

High walls were erected around the 5 kilometers radius.

Along the walls, he saw men and women with dirtied clothing and tired expressions.

They were laying down bricks, mixing the cement, cutting woods and many more laborious actions.

"Look here, chief. This place 'ere is the Razz Gang's territory. Follow our rules, and nobody gets hurt!" (Fat Bill)

He then asked two of his lackeys to guide and 'guard' the Captain to the Trading Post.

Looking up ahead, he saw a white and pristine building stood majestically.

It was defended by another five-meter 'Inner Wall'.

Just right below the Inner Wall, hundreds upon hundreds of tents were erected on what used to be a parking lot.

Class discrimination was obvious.

Both the Lieutenant and the Captain shook their heads.

The gang members acted as the police, eradicating any 'voices' or movements that might have any intentions to go against them.

"The gang provided the survivors with tents, beds, food, and water. And of course, medicines." (Captain Nassah)

They recruited all the [Enhanced] into their gang.

Each gang members were provided with a room, so everybody was lining up to be part of them.

Upon swearing their loyalty, they were given a room in the hospital.

All the professionals, such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, engineers, and skilled workers were given special privileges.

"But a gang is still a gang." (Lieutenant Johan)

The survivors numbered somewhere between 2,000 people.

"The wall, for example. How was it possible to build two tall, sturdy walls in a few days right after the apocalypse happened?" (Lieutenant Johan)

Yet survivors still entered and stayed regardless of the treatment.

'A tiger can't change its stripes.'

The gang ruled with an iron fist.

Communism would be an understatement, they were dictators.

"The others…were treated like slaves. Almost to a level where homeless people and beggars were better off than them." (Lieutenant Johan)

Little children were taken care of adequately. They were even given a place to learn and play inside the Hospital building.

"Tch, so they basically hold the survivor's children hostages to make sure they don't run away." (Chai)

A trace of anger could be seen from everyone's eyes.

Or to be exact, they were kept as a 'livestock' to the men of the Razz Gang.

Then, Annie, Joy, the Captain, and Lieutenant felt chills on their neck.

Chai, Jennifer, and Zack felt so angry, that they unconsciously released murderous auras.

"Our situation just couldn't allow us to rectify this injustice." (Captain Nassah)

He looked down with a sigh.

With no manpower, no weapons and Melissa's grave injuries, what could they do?

"But the Main Building Shelter collapsed even with four-hundred or more [Enhanced]. How are they still around?" (Jennifer)

The Captain explained that they periodically clear out the zombies, to avoid a horde forming.

"With the more zombies killed, the stronger they get." (Chai)

All of them nodded.

"But your base fell because of the pincer attack of two Second-Level Undeads. Don't tell me the Second-Level never reached their Shelter?" (Zack)

"The b*stard mutant zombie and his slaves did attack the Razz Gang's base." (Captain Nassah)

The Hospital Shelter was only three kilometers away from the Main Building Shelter.

With the female Second-Level chased after Melissa's group, the male wandered around to find more prey.

"Well, they're still alive. It means that they have somebody strong enough to kill it?" (Chai)

Chai's eyes grew big in anticipation.

"I don't know if they do, but one thing I could confirm: they had absurdly high-tech weapons. Their equipment…are like yours!" (Lieutenant Johan)

He pointed to Chai's [Nyoi-Bo].

Impossible! [Enhanced] individuals could trade points for equipment too?!

"Are you sure they only have [Enhanced] members there? Did you notice anyone with the [Hero] traits?" (Zack)

As a person who invested into [Intelligence] stat, he quickly grasped that these people with the [Hero System] were most likely humans with unusual abilities like Chai and Jennifer.

[Intelligence: This stat affects the mental power of the character, allowing the increase of wisdom, comprehension and spiritual powers as sufficient amount of INT proportionally invested. Every point of INT provides an increase of spiritual attack damage, spiritual defense, maximum spiritual capacity, spiritual power recovery, spiritual items effectiveness, medicine and potion creation success rate, resistance against Blindness, Sleepiness and Chaotic Mind.]

Both the Captain and Lieutenant shook their heads.

"What could the 'equipment' do?" (Zack)

Both Chai and Jennifer extended their ears curiously.

"This might sound ridiculous, but…argh-! What the hell, the world had turned into a crazy place anyways!" (Captain Nassah)

A miniature device that allows them to fly, without any wings or booster thrust!

Swords that would definitely defeat the enemies!

Invisible bullets that knock back zombies and blasts them into the air!

The more they listed down the gang's items and what it could do, the more illogical it sounded.

"In order to get the medical items that Miss Joy requested, I had to run back here to sort all our tradable items. We even scavenged around the vicinity to see what could be used." (Captain Nassah)

Once they had collected enough loot, both the Captain and Lieutenant Johan carried them to the Gang's Hospital Shelter.

As they were approaching the base, they heard echoes of hair-raising, blood curling shrieks of the undead in the air.

Observing from a hill one and a half kilometer away, the base was under attack!

"Just when we thought that they would go down like how we did…it turned out, they were purposely luring the zombies into the Shelter!" (Captain Nassah)

They saw with their own eyes, how the rowdy and rough-looking gang members coordinated perfectly to kill massive amounts of the undead.

There were two walls: the Outer Wall, and the Inner Wall.

There were passageways, or canals specifically built-in the Outer Wall.

It served to 'funnel' the zombies, leading them to be massacred inside.

With a slight tremble in his voice, the Lieutenant also mentioned that the Second-Level Undead was leading the zombie swarm.

"A few men were luring the undead into the 'entrances' by flying around with their out-of-the-world items." (Lieutenant Johan)

He also observed that they have to change men that were screaming while flying, every three minutes.

'No rocket thrusters, no wings…what [Hero] has this power?' (Zack)

He already has a few fictional characters in mind. All he needs is to get more information from them to complete his analysis.

Seas of ghoulish, flesh-hungry zombies disappear into the Shelter like water flowing down the drain.

The Second-Level that attacked was the male-looking one.

Looking at the 3.5 meters wall, it scoffed at the human cattle's futile attempt to fight back.

It roared in pride and arrogance to the sky, commanding the zombie slaves to take down the base.

Expecting the same exact results where it broke through the previous human shelter, it started to salivate thinking how it could feast on another buffet of delicious human brains.

To it, breaching through Shelters were comparable to harvesting honey.

To taste the sweet, golden honeycomb, you must first break the beehives!

"Right when the zombie's number was down the one-hundreds, the Second-Level started to attack." (Lieutenant Johan)

Rains upon rains of bullets showered the Second-Level male zombie and his followers.

Due to his hard, condensed muscles, none of the bullets were penetrating him.

It then roared as a sign of dominance, and starts throwing his zombie followers towards the Shelter!

With its extraordinary strength and speed, multiple zombies were launched into the air.

The wall's guards couldn't keep up with the Second-Level's throwing speed.

Some of the zombies got into the Outer Wall, and some crashed directly into the gang members.

After a few minutes of throwing his zombie minions, the Second-Level was startled for a second.

Like the lotus plague, hundreds upon hundreds of flying humans rushed out from the Shelter.

DHOOM! BOOM!

Barrages upon barrages of heart-pounding sounds were heard.

Dust clouds acc.u.mulated into the air.

"Five minutes later when the surroundings settled, the Second-Level were mowed down so badly that it looked like roadkill!" (Captain Nassah)

He couldn't believe his eyes, and he rubbed his binoculars several times.

"Did they each had a tactical radio to coordinate their attacks?" (Zack)

"I highly doubt it. There was not a single one of them taking out a radio." (Lieutenant Johan)

As it was incapacitated, the Main Gate of the Shelter opened.

Two men were leading a few hundred gangsters behind them.

"We finally get to see the gang leader: Razz Naoia." (Captain Nassah)

According to the Lieutenant, the gang regrouped and surrounded the critically-injured Second-Level.

They couldn't hear anything that the gang members were saying apart from watching their movements through binoculars.

From afar, Razz was seemingly checking the Second-Level's condition.

After gesturing a few things, he went back to the vehicle he rode in and opened the car's door.

An a.d.u.l.t man, tanned skin with medium length hair comes out of the car.

"We couldn't see it clearly, but Razz was definitely favoring that person." (Captain Nassah)

The next thing they knew, two loud 'BOOM' rang off twice.

After that, the gang members started to head back to the Hospital Shelter.

"When the whole shenanigan was over, we waited an hour before making a beeline towards the Shelter." (Lieutenant Johan)

That was to not make it obvious that they were observing the battle.

Along their run to the Shelter, the Lieutenant said that most of the bodies were gone.

"Even the Second-Level zombie?" (Zack)

The military men nodded.

They could confirm that they did not saw any of the gang members carry the Second-Level's body.

Or even buried the bodies elsewhere.

As the two military men got into the base, they exchanged their resources for medicines needed for Melissa's recovery.

They ran back to the Country Club and Joy started to treat her with the proper items.

A few hours later, they met with Chai, Jennifer, and Zack in an eventful meeting.

During the three days Melissa was in a coma, they shared most of the information among each other.

"When the sky turned red, all flight operations were halted." (Captain Nassah)

The Airport adjacent to them ceased operations for half a day.

"When we get reports of riots happening all over Malaysia, we were preparing ourselves for a national emergency." (Lieutenant Johan)

Evacuation orders were transmitted to the Airport and the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

"Any estimation on how many aircrafts left in the hangar?" (Zack)

"Not many, I reckon. We oversee the whole evacuation operations and almost all of the carriers, helicopters, jets and airplanes departed." (Captain Nassah)

Zombie hordes started to slowly form over the days until the runways were occupied by the living dead.

The ones left behind retreated back to the Main Building Shelter.

"Yo Cap, how much of those walkers occupied the runway and Airport?" (Chai)

Looking at his eager face, the Captain gave a rough guess of close to a thousand.

"Not to forget the spillover from the surrounding Residential Areas. Counting the number of houses, we're looking at another 4,000 ~ 5,000 zombies." (Lieutenant Johan)

Calculating the rate of infection, even if 25% of the population gets infected, it will result in an uncontrollable size of hordes.

Not to mention the possibility of Second-Level Undeads appearing.

They simulated a number of plans they could to reach the Air Force Hangar.

"Let's hope that Mel wakes up soon. If we have a sniper, it'll make the execution faster." (Zack)

After a light meal and some rest, they went out to the Golf Course.

Captain Nassah, Lieutenant Johan, Jennifer, Zack, and Chai were testing out their powers.

They tested every dimension of their abilities.

Chai and Zack outclassed the Captain and the Lieutenant in every single aspect.

'We're so lucky that they're not our enemies.' (Captain Nassah)

The two soldiers were a little anxious seeing three young civilians wielding such dominating powers.

After a whole day of measuring their gifts, they brainstormed on how to gain full control.

Chai, for example; exhausts his energy reserves fast.

He gets very hungry, especially after overexerting himself by using 'Ghost Steps' and subconsciously using [Kame School Martial Arts].

Jennifer has to learn to control her emotions at will.

Not to mention that without proper power distribution, she would drain her energy quickly.

Zack has to learn to regulate his tyrannical strength in order to avoid collateral damage.

His senses must also be honed to prevent being overwhelmed as he did with the Captain and Lieutenant's traps.

" *pant* GUYS! MEL IS AWAKE! *pant*" (Annie)

The young Australian woman screamed on top of her lungs while running towards the group.

Without thinking twice, all of them returned back to the Country Club.
