The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 38 - 38: A Different Proposal

“Oh, my God! Violet!” the woman came running with her arms opened to hug Violet.

That action almost made Violet want to cry. Gwen was the only one that could actually make her feel loved inside those walls.

Violet didn’t have many friends actually, it was just the two of them, and Lance.

But her relationship with Lance was awkward and sometimes uncomfortable, so Gwen was the only one left.

“I didn’t believe when they told me you were back.” Gwen said retreating from the hug.

“Yeah, I just got home actually.”

“I can’t even imagine what you’ve gone through..”

But Violet wasn’t in the mood to tell anything.

So she just nodded, trying to pretend she was tired.

“You just take a bath and rest a little.” Arden said behind them.

She turned to look at him again, still digesting his indifference towards her ever since she returned.

Violet shook her head in affirmation again.

“Let's have a party on Saturday night to celebrate your return.” Arden added as Violet walked to the door.

She froze with surprise.

She wasn’t expecting that sort of thing. She just assumed that everything was going to be back to normal as soon as she put her feet inside the palace.

But of course Arden wouldn’t let an opportunity like that escape.

What better reason to show their members that their Alpha was beyond happy than his adoptive daughter being back home safe?

“Do we have to? I’m not really in the mood for parties…” Violet tried to convince him.

“Of course! We need to celebrate that you’re free from the hands of those monsters.”

Violet shivered with disgust.

Hearing him talk about Jack like that actually made her really angry.

Deciding not to continue that conversation, Violet turned and took the way to her room.

It was exactly the way she had left it. But she didn’t feel at home at all once she entered.

In fact, she could almost see her room at Jack’s mansion in front of her; her bed with him sleeping peacefully in it.

Violet closed her eyes, trying to gather the courage she had when she left the mansion.

The tub was full and the water was really warm, which made Violet feel really comfortable. So comfortable that she even took a nap inside of it.

She didn’t feel like getting out of her room that day, so she pretended to be having a headache and said she didn’t want to be bothered.

At some time during the afternoon, someone came in and said that Arden told the whole pack about the party to celebrate Violet’s return.

She nodded and closed the door, not feeling happy at all.

How was she going to go on with her plan?

She had no idea where to start.

The only place she could think of to find something incriminating was Arden’s office, but it was almost impossible to find the room empty.

He was always there, having meetings or just daydreaming with his cigarette.

How was she going to find a moment to get in and search for anything? Especially something that she didn’t even know what it was.

Arden wasn’t the type of man to hide confidential things in his bedroom. And Violet remembered seeing him guard lots of things inside his drawers and on the cabinet behind his table on his office.

It must had something there that would help her.

She started to overthink, considering what would happen if she actually found something.

What would happen to the Diamond Pack? Would they believe that Arden wasn’t the ideal person to govern them?

Also, she didn’t want to think about Gwen or Lance. What if they thought that Violet was just a traitor and an ungrateful daughter?

She didn’t want to do anything bad with Arden. That’s why she insisted that Jack promised her that he wouldn’t kill anyone.

Deep down in her heart, Violet believed that Arden was a good man, otherwise he would never had adopted her.

Maybe he just wasn’t a good leader.

She just wanted to find something to prove it. If she didn’t find anything, maybe there wasn’t anything to find at all.

Then she would have to think of a way to go back to Jack.

But thinking better, Violet realized that the party was a good excuse for Arden’s office to be empty.

He was always showing himself to the guests in these events.

If she had an opportunity to get out of the party unnoticed, maybe she could have some success with the mission.

Someone knocking on the door took Violet out of her thoughts.

“Come in.” she said, really lazy to get up from the bed.

Lance appeared with his usual uniform and his perfectly combed hair.

“Hey.” he said closing the door behind him. “Gwen just told me you had returned. How are you feeling?”

Violet sat on the bed to look at him.

“I'm fine, just a little tired.”

He nodded and sat on the other side of the bed.

Violet really liked Lance. He was always so nice to her, but being raised by Arden, made Lance a little too similar to him.

Which Violet didn’t think was a good thing.

Lance was a very emotional man, but Arden was cold. Somehow, Lance learned how to change his emotions to coldness, maybe a way to hide his true feelings.

But he seemed to be someone that would let his feelings carry him away on a fight, something that Violet thought it was really dangerous.

On that matter, Lance was very much like her. She always let her feelings speak louder than her rational side.

“You know, Vi, now that you’re back, I really wanted to talk to you about something.” he started to speak with his head down.

He didn’t have the courage to look into her eyes, and she wondered why.

“What is it?” Violet asked curiously.

“I believe you always imagined how I feel about you.”

No, no, no. He wasn’t going to…

“And I regretted this entire time not talking to you about this before you left for your mission…” Lance continued.

Violet didn’t realize how tense she was just by waiting the conclusion of that sentence.

“I wanted to tell you that I really want to marry you. And not just because Arden want us to, but because I believe we could be really happy together.”

Oh, crap.
