The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 49 - 49: Walls Down

Violet got dizzy just by looking at it.

She had never imagined she would live to see those walls down.

The riot was out of control.

She could see some guards from the Diamond Pack trying to prevent the intruders, but they were clearly outnumbered.

Not even Arden’s army could fight them..

Lots of them were in their wolf forms, but others chose to fight as humans.

Violet saw a lot of women running away with their children, trying to hide inside their houses.

Some of the intruders were also helping them to protect themselves.

And she could see how they weren’t trying to be violent or anything like that. They were just trying to enter the palace to take Arden out.

“Just stay inside with your kids, ma’am. We tried to make him abdicate by himself. But he refused. So we didn’t have a choice. But we didn’t come to hurt any of you, so don’t worry.” Violet heard a man talking to a lady that seemed terrified.

She knew the woman by sight, but had never talked to her.

The lady nodded and closed the door of her house.

Violet didn’t know what to do. She simply followed Jack and the others from the Rebels towards the palace.

When they were approaching the place, Violet saw a huge crowd outside, with torches and signs calling for Arden.

She could feel her muscles trembling with nervousness and fear, and Jack seemed to realize that.

He instantly grabbed her hand and clenched it.

“Everything will be fine.” he said against her ear.

She just nodded, unable to find the words to answer.

Suddenly someone came out of the palace with his hand up, asking for the people to be silent.

Violet recognized him from Arden’s numerous meetings, but she had never participated in one, so she didn’t really know the man.

It took a few seconds for everyone to notice the presence of the man standing in front of the building, and when they finally stopped making noises, the man started to speak.

“Good evening. I’m Harry, the communication advisor from the Diamond Pack and I know all of you came to ask for justice. We do understand what is at stake, even though it all happened too fast for us. Not even the members know exactly what is happening.”

Some people started to look anxious, like the speech was taking longer than necessary.

The advisor speeded up.

“We hope we can all come to an agreement, but I ask you to be patient. We don’t want anyone being hurt. There are women and children here, so let’s try to be civilized. Please.”

“Come on, old man. Where is your f*cking leader? Ask him to show his stupid face to us!” someone yelled from the crowd.

That seemed to make Harry even more nervous.

“I'm afraid he won’t show up. We came to a conclusion that Arden is missing. He probably escaped.”

A loud and incredulous chattering rose instantly.

Nobody seemed to want to believe that was true.

The communication advisor didn’t know what to do and looked really uncomfortable up there.

He raised his hand trying to grab the attention of everyone again, but that took much longer than he expected.

“Please! Please! Let’s be civilized. I have an announcement to make.”

After a few minutes, with his insistence and some people on the crowd trying to make everyone else shut up, Harry was finally able to speak again.

“I’m just asking for your understanding here. We are all facing the same thing, believe me. Lots of people from the Diamond Pack are already pissed enough. So don’t worry. We will work this out. We just need your patience”

There were some murmurs and complaints, but he continued to talk without interruption.

“Since this is an unusual situation, we are trying to come up with the best solution for the time being, until we can do something better about it. Arden is nowhere to be found, just like a lot of our officers and special members from the council. We thought about having a meeting…”

“What type of meeting?” someone asked.

“Er…” Harry cleaned his throat. “A meeting with the Alphas from all the packs present here. We need to find a temporary Alpha for the Diamond Pack. Since our council is not complete, we wanted to show we are willing to be transparent with all of you, since you are all here claiming for justice.”

Lots of faces started to look around searching for the Alphas present there.

Violet instantly looked at Jack, that didn’t seem very surprised with the sudden convocation.

One by one, Violet saw a lot of people climbing the stairs from the front door of the palace.

“I want to go with you.” she whispered grabbing Jack’s hand.

He looked at their hands and then at her, trying to understand what she meant.

“Vi, you just heard the man. They only want the Alphas.”

She shook her head in denial.

“I don’t care. I need to see Gwen. I have to go inside. I’ll go with you.”

Jack seemed to have no choice, so he simply shrunk his shoulders and pulled her hand.

They followed the other Alphas and waited for the advisor to finish his speech.

“For the time being, all I ask is a truce in this rebellion. The Diamond Pack needs your comprehension at the moment.”

Since nobody seemed willing to restart the fight, Harry was finally able to breath relieved.

He entered the palace and asked everyone to follow him.

Violet thought there was a great number of Alphas there, but she didn’t say anything.

She didn’t want to be noticed.

And as they walked to the ballroom, where the party was held a few days before, Violet saw that they arranged a lot of chairs, all set like that was a last minute idea.

“You can all sit and wait. The Diamond Pack had a list of possible candidates to the position in case our leader died. But the second person on the list is also missing.” Harry continued to talk.

Violet opened her mouth in shock.

The second person was Lance. He was the Beta. He was Arden’s favorite to take his position.

Why was he missing? Did he run away? Did he do something wrong too?

But as Violet thought about those things, something even more surprising made her feel sick.

“With that being said, the next person on the list is Gwen Thompson, Arden’s daughter.” the man concluded, pointing at the door where the woman was coming in their direction.

And Violet didn’t know if she was happy or sad to see her sister.
