The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 57 - 57: Waiting

Violet’s stomach started to burn.

Who could it be? Was it someone she knew?

What was going to happen to him?

“Where’s Jack?” Morgana asked the man, still holding him by his collar.

“Upstairs. His office.”

Morgana released him, who tried to pretend that didn’t get scared by her, and Violet finally followed her to Jack’s office.

Morgana entered the room without even knocking, something that Violet thought Jack wasn’t going to like.

But again, Morgana could be pretty scary when she wanted to, and given the latest facts, Jack was probably too busy to care..

“Jack, what happened? They said someone was caught.” Morgana asked as soon as she entered.

Jack was seated on his usual chair with a glass of whisky on his hand.

There were also two other men that Violet didn’t know inside the office.

Apparently, they were giving information to their leader, but when the ladies entered, Jack asked them to leave.

“They just told me what is happening on the Diamond Pack.” Jack started after the men left, taking a sip before he continued. “It is one of Arden’s men. He was part of the army of the Diamond Pack.”

“And what are they going to do with him?”

Morgana sat in a chair in front of his table, and Violet did the same on the chair next to her.

She didn’t say anything, she just listened.

Morgana was making all the questions she wanted to make anyway.

“They are interrogating him, but that’s not the problem.”

“Then what is it?” Morgana questioned.

“People don't trust the Diamond Pack anymore. So they think Gwen won’t be able to give the right order to have the information they need to find Arden and all the other traitors.”

“What do you mean?” Violet asked confused. “What would be the right order?”

Jack looked at her.

“Everyone that rebelled against the Diamond Pack believes they won’t make the proper judgement. To be straightforward, they think they won’t do what’s necessary to take information out of him.”

“And what is necessary for that? Torture?” Violet shot the question at him.

Jack exchanged glances with Morgana before he looked back at her.

“Look, Violet. That’s how things work for some people. A traitor is a traitor. In fact, if this happened here on the Rebels, he would already be dead.”

Yes, she knew. That almost happened to her when they discovered that she tried to kill him.

“Do you think torture is okay?” she asked to Jack.

Violet didn’t agree with that method. In fact, she didn’t think things should be this extreme.

But she was getting to know the real world now. She always lived inside a bubble, so it was really hard to keep up with how things really worked.

“I’m not fond of it, no. And I’m not saying they will torture the man, but they will want to take some information out of him to prove that the Diamond Pack is still trustable. And if torture is the only way, they might be willing to do it.”

“Then what’s gonna happen next?” Morgana asked, breaking the silence.

“The Alphas summoned to the meeting with Gwen asked that the judgement was made in public. We are waiting for her response.” Jack explained.

Violet couldn’t stop but think that Gwen should be really suffering a lot at the moment. She should be going through a lot and no one from her family was around to help.

All she wanted to do was to comfort her and tell her that she could count on Violet for anything. But she couldn’t do that now, because Gwen didn’t want to see her anymore.

And that pained her heart more than she wanted to admit.

“Do you think she will say yes?” Violet’s voice almost didn’t come out.

“Honestly, I can’t say. Gwen seemed to be a very focused and strong woman, but it’s hard to say who she’s listening to.”

“All traitors escaped, right? So everyone there should be at the same side. Why would they give her the wrong advice? That could harm the pack.” Violet was having a hard time to understand how politics worked.

“We don’t know. Maybe not all traitors had proof against them. So we could still have someone inside the palace that is on Arden’s side. It’s hard to say.” Jack concluded.

“So we need to wait, right? Well, I’ll be in my room. Ask someone to call me when you have some feedback.” Morgana said getting on her feet and walking towards the door.

Violet was left alone with Jack.

“Are you okay?” he asked with concerned eyes.

She nodded looking at the floor.

Her heart started to hurt all of a sudden.

“What is it?” he asked.

Violet took a deep breath and looked at him.

“I can’t stop but think that she wouldn’t be in this situation alone if I hadn’t caused all of this.”

“I already told you that you’re no responsible for anything. The only thing you did was to show the truth to people. The one that is responsible here is Arden. Maybe Gwen wouldn’t know that he was a bad person if you didn’t show it to the world, but don’t you think the truth is always better? Even if it hurts?”

“I guess. Now I’m not so sure. Maybe it would be better to just stay in the dark.”

“Living a lie?” Jack questioned. “Aren't you happy to be free? None of this would be possible if you were still under Arden’s wings.”

Violet stared into those intoxicating eyes that she loved.

He was right. She just needed to stop moaning about everything and face reality.

She was adopted by someone bad that killed her parents and many others. It didn’t matter if she had hurt someone to bring his crimes to light.

If she could do something to make the Crescent and the Diamond Pack a better place to live, she shouldn’t regret it.

“You're right. I think I will only be certain that I did the right thing once I see the bad that Arden brought to people.”

“Maybe we can work on that. It mustn’t be hard to find someone that was harmed by him. Maybe you will believe you did the right thing then.”
