The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 71 - 71: Sorry Again

Violet got back to her room, leaving Jack behind with his internal conflict.

Even if he tried to do what Violet wanted, he wouldn’t be able to look at Lance’s face without feeling jealous.

He knew it was a childish action, but he couldn’t help it.

Lance was raised by Violet’s side and he would be a constant reminder of what she once had. Her family, her pack, everything.

And even though she had said she loved Jack and wanted to be with him, he still felt a little guilty for her leaving everything behind because of him.

He didn’t want to tell Violet what to do or anything like that. He knew she had been through that her entire life, and if he didn’t want to do one thing, was to boss her around like she said.

Jack lost track of how many glasses of whisky he had taken before feeling completely dizzy.. Even his thoughts didn’t make sense anymore after some time.

The pain on his heart to feel Violet escaping through his fingers made him decide to go after her.

He didn’t care that it was too late and she was probably sleeping, but he had to see her, to apologize for being an idiot. Again.

Why did they keep fighting and disagreeing like that lately?

It did seem to be something easy to solve, but they couldn’t seem to be able to do that.

Every time they argued about something, they apologized to one another and everything would be incredibly good for a few days.

And then something would come up and make them quarrel again.

Why couldn’t they respect each other’s opinions and make it work, even though they had different visions of life?

Jack had a lot of difficulty in admitting he was wrong, but with Violet he seemed to be leaving that habit behind.

He didn’t want to lose her, and if that meant he should be regretting his choices and going after her, he would do it.

Jack staggered to her room and knocked on the door, after considering entering without knocking.

But he should still respect her personal space, so he decided to wait for her to invite him in.

It didn’t take too long for her to appear in front of him. He thought it would take longer since she should be sleeping.

But she wasn’t apparently.

And her cheeks and eyes were red, which meant she should be crying.

Seeing her like that made his heart break.

“What do you want, Jack?” she asked a little tired.

It appeared to him that she was fed up with all that mess just like him.

He had to lean against the door jamb to keep himself up.

“I don’t trust him.” he said still trying to find the right words. But his mind didn’t seem to remember how to speak correctly all of a sudden.

Or maybe it was the alcohol.

“You already made that clear earlier.” Violet said, rolling her eyes.

Jack looked up to stare into her eyes.

“Well… I’m saying it again.” he continued, rolling his tongue as he spoke.

Why did he have to drink that much whisky anyway?

He looked pathetic now.

“Okay, is that all?” Violet asked already closing the door.

But his hand was quicker and he stopped her from slamming the door on his face.

“Wait…” he begged. “Won't you invite me in?”

“I don’t really wanna talk to you now, Jack. It’s late and you’re drunk as hell. You should take a shower and sleep.” she suggested.

But he didn’t move. His hand was still holding the door so she wouldn’t have the chance to close it.

He went there to apologize for being an idiot, but he was still being one.

“I’m trying to apologize to you.” he complained.

Violet raised her brows.

“Really? The way you do that is really odd.”

If she wasn’t going to invite him in, he would enter anyway. To hell with his chivalry.

He had to sit or he would make a fool of himself even more if he fell on the floor.

Jack released the door and passed by her, making Violet puzzled for a while, checking what he was doing.

He went towards her bed, that was still intact like no one had touched it, and sat on it with a sigh of relief.

He stared into those green eyes and that golden hair and couldn’t believe how lucky he was.

She was everything he always wanted, but never admitted it.

Jack always tried to be a serious leader like his father, but he was never able to. He was friendly and wanted to help everyone, which was why everyone liked him.

But on the romantic department, he never had much luck. And Violet awoke a part of him that he didn’t know existed.

And he couldn’t imagine his life without her anymore.

“I'm sorry, Vi… Again.” he whispered.

He lowered his head, unable to keep looking at her.

It was like her eyes were judging him and he couldn’t stand it.

Violet stayed in silent for a few seconds, and he suddenly felt the mattress moving as she sat by his side.

“Why do we keep apologizing to one another, huh?” she murmured.

Jack lifted his head and looked at her, and she seemed incredibly sad. Just like he was feeling too.

“I guess I can’t stop being an idiot.” he answered, but she shook her head in denial.

“It's not fair for you to take all the blame. I’m also being an idiot lately, remember?”

“I didn’t think I’d be the jealous type, you know? But just the thought of Lance getting near you made me go mad.” he continued, ignoring her.

Violet opened her mouth to speak, but he interrupted her.

“I want you to know that it doesn’t mean I don’t trust you. I just don’t trust him. Don’t ask me to do it because I can't.”

She nodded, but didn’t say anything.

“But I’ll do what you asked me. I’ll trust you, your instincts. And I really hope you’re not wrong this time, Vi. Because if he tries to do anything to you, I’ll kill him.” Jack stated, and she widened her eyes in surprise.

“What do you mean? Can I bring him in?”

Jack took a deep breath, trying to make his mind stop spinning so much.

“Yes, you can. But I won’t think twice before killing him, so you should warn him. I can be a pretty bad Alpha if I want to.”

But all Violet did was to smile at his statement.

“Why are you laughing?” he asked annoyed. “You should take me more seriously.”

“You're kind of cute when you’re grumpy and authoritarian.” she replied pulling him for a hug.

And it felt like the best thing in the world to be in those warm and gentle arms.

And Jack didn’t care that she found his threat to be cute. All he knew is that he belonged there, inside that hug.

And he really hoped he wasn’t wrong to give in to her request.

Because he would kill the man if he tried anything with her.
