The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 8 - 8: Absent Wolf

Violet started to freak out. Not even completely pissed off she was able to summon her other self.

The animal in her was gone.

She couldn’t feel anything. It was like she had never been a werewolf in the first place.

As she tried to think of what could’ve happened, the wooden door opened abruptly and Jack appeared in front of her.

Violet had lost track of the time, since it was hard to know how long it had been since they locked her up inside that dark room.

She couldn’t see if the sun was up or not, so the minutes passed and she couldn’t keep count of it.

But Jack had changed his clothes and his hair was wet, which made it obvious that he had taken a shower, which made Violet even more angry..

How could he leave her there, without being able to shower, change her clothes, see the sunlight, and even more important, take her powers out?

“What the hell did you do to me?” she screamed as soon as she recovered from that view.

He was extremely handsome with those black clothes.

“What exactly are you referring to now?” he answered with that serious expression on his face.

Was he still angry at her?

“What did you do to my powers? Why can’t I feel anything?” Violet’s fear was imprinted on her voice.

The sentence got out of her mouth with a shaky voice, which made Jack frown.

“You don’t need to worry. They injected something on you to suppress your wolf side, but it’s not permanent. It’s just a precaution.”

“Precaution for what? You can’t do this to me!” Violet yelled.

“Well, forgive me for taking the necessary measures to protect myself. Or do you want me to give you another opportunity to kill me?” he said angrily.

Violet swallowed hard.

“Who said I was going to kill you?”

Jack laughed.

“Yeah, you really like to offend me, right? I’m not stupid. I don’t know who you are, but you wouldn’t come to my house with an enchanted dagger if you weren’t trying to kill me.”

Violet couldn’t find the words to reply to that.

It actually made a lot of sense.

“I gave you a lot of time to reflect on what you want to tell me. So… I’ll try to ask you again. Who are you?”

Violet considered not telling him anything. But she was powerless, missing her home, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t come up with a good idea to escape that place.

Now, more than ever, she was helpless.

Nobody was coming for her, she couldn’t shift and every time Jack came near her, she could feel her human side weakening.

She didn’t stand a chance against him.

But she wouldn’t give him exactly what he wanted.

“I’m Violet.”

Jack stared at her, studying her actions, maybe considering if she was lying or not.

“Violet…” he repeated, and hearing her name come out from his mouth made Violet’s heart beat faster.

It felt so good.

“Will you tell me where do you come from or do I need to guess?” Jack asked, but for what Violet could tell, it seemed like he already knew the answer to that question.

She remained silent and that infuriated Jack.

“Do you seriously want to die here? I don’t care if you’re my mate or not, I won’t hesitate in killing you if you don’t come clean and tell me why you are here!” he screamed at her, but when he saw Violet widening her eyes, scared, he retreated.

He turned his back to her and punched the door really hard, which made Violet’s body contract.

Jack huffed and pulled himself together before he looked at her again.

Violet looked at him and got really confused. It was like he was in pain.

Not from the punch, but a conflicting pain.

“I'm sorry to yell at you, but you’re kind of pushing me too hard, you know? I don’t normally negotiate with people that try to kill me.”

“Yeah, I know your reputation really well. You don’t need to tell me that.” Violet murmured to herself, but he listened.

“My reputation?” Jack sounded intrigued. “Now I’m really curious. I would really like to know what kind of reputation I have inside the Diamond Pack.”

Violet opened her mouth in shock.

“How…”

“How do I know you’re from the Diamond Pack?” Jack completed the sentence for her. “Yeah, I guess it wasn’t too hard to discover that. I have my ways, just like you have.”

Violet’s head was hurting like hell.

How did he find out where she came from? What did that mean for her? Was he going to kill her for sure now, without giving her any chance?

But a chance for what exactly? What could she offer him?

Jack took a few steps forward and squatted in front of her, just like the first time he tried to get some information.

His intoxicating smell hit Violet’s nostrils and she almost fainted, giving that she was very weak.

Maybe the fact that she didn’t have her inner wolf present anymore, made her organism weaker somehow, like it was missing a piece to feel complete and powerful.

“Why would the Diamond Pack send you here to kill me?” Jack asked really close to her face.

That was making it very hard for Violet to think clearly.

She had to make sure she didn’t say anything valuable to him, but being too close was disabling her to do so.

“Why are you so sure they sent me?” she replied, trying to sound confident.

Jack raised his brows.

“Maybe I came here with my own reasons.” Violet said, and if the situation was different, she would have laughed at that.

When was she ever able to do anything for her own reasons? She had always followed Arden’s orders, like a puppet.

She would never do anything like kill Jack because she felt like it.

And the look on Jack’s face revealed that he kind of thought the same.

“Yeah, I don’t believe that.” he lowered his head to be at the same level as Violet's. “And I also don’t think you ran away from me because of your own reasons.”

Violet looked inside his eyes, but that wasn’t a good idea.

It was like he had a sort of persuasion power over her.

“What do you mean?” she wanted to know.

He got even closer to her, and their lips were almost touching.

Unconsciously, Violet diverted her attention to his lips.

“I mean that you wanted the same thing as me when we met at the party, but something hold you back. Am I right?”

Violet barely listened to his question because all she could think of was how close his lips were from hers.

Was he going to kiss her again?
