The Alpha's Prisoner

Chapter 94 - 94: Cold Confrontation

Violet could feel her legs trembling and her hands sweating like she was about to get hanged.

Seeing how tense she was, Lance grabbed her hand and pulled her in the direction of that door.

It was like the hallway had extended to twice its size.

As much as they walked forward, they never seemed to reach their destination.

That was a terrible idea, Violet then realized.

What if Arden wasn’t there?

Or even worse, what if he was?

What would they do? What would they say to him?

Would Lance let the man even speak before killing him?

Did she want him to say anything though?

For months, she hoped not to see Arden’s face never again. She wanted to turn that page, forget he was ever a part of her life.

But they would never be in peace with Arden at loose, threatening her and her loved ones, and making the Diamond Pack a terrible place to live.

They had to put an end to it.

With the other hand, Lance reached the doorknob and twisted it, pulling the door forward.

Violet thought she would see Arden’s face right there, at that second, but they saw themselves facing a wood ladder that went down instead.

“Come on.” Lance said pulling her to take the stairs.

She didn’t trust her legs to do that, so she appreciated the fact that Lance was there to force her to do it.

As they went down, the door closed behind them and the only light was coming from the end of the route.

Swallowing ceaselessly, Violet reached the room by Lance’s side, and they saw each other facing the man with the goatee smoking his inseparable cigarette.

As soon as Arden's eyes fell upon the newcomers, they widened like the man had just got slapped in the face.

“Hi, Arden.” Lance’s voice echoed in the room, even though it wasn’t empty.

Arden was actually living in a very spacious room. It wasn’t the life that a fugitive and a criminal deserved, for sure.

The cigarette fell from his mouth as Arden tried to find the words to say.

It didn’t take him too long to get his impenetrable character back though.

“I must admit that I wasn’t expecting this visit.” he said with the most evil smirk on his lips.

Violet clenched her fist, remembering why she hated him so much.

How could he be so cold and unconcerned?

He was trapped inside that room with the two people that wanted him to vanish from the world more than anyone else.

“How did you find out I was here?” he asked.

Violet noticed how his smirk failed for a split second.

She was certain that Arden was trying to pretend that their surprising appearance wasn’t something that bothered him and caught him off guard.

But of course he was only trying to get into their heads; use his smooth talk to distract them and get time for someone to come to his rescue, or even come with up a plan to get rid of her and Lance eventually.

But she wasn’t going to let him succeed. She would pay close attention to his every move.

“I knew about the existence of this room.” Lance explained against his teeth. “It just took a while for me to think about it. It didn’t occur to me that you’d actually be hiding like a scared kid inside the palace, while all your men are dying outside, trying to protect you. Very cowardly of you, I must say. It actually disappoints me to know I was right.”

Violet saw Arden’s eyes blink rapidly with fury with Lance’s sarcasm.

Arden wasn’t the type of person who liked to be considered weak, let alone a coward.

He was too proud for that.

“That's why I’m the leader, and you’re not. And never will be. You don’t have what it takes.” Arden fired back.

But everyone knew he was just bluffing.

And Lance took the words right out of her mouth.

“It didn’t use to be what you thought though, right? If I remember correctly, you wanted me to take your place as the Alpha.” Lance pointed out.

“That was before I realize that you were actually very weak. You don’t have the guts to do whatever it takes to keep your power.” Arden continued. “It took me a while to see that, I confess. But once I did, I realized that I was focusing on the wrong son. Gwen should have been the one in my mind all this time. I’m really impressed with her improvement.”

Lance and Violet looked at him speechless.

They had so much to say, but suddenly it was like the words evaporated from their minds.

“So what exactly both of you want here?” Arden asked with curious eyes and that smirk on his face.

Violet clenched her jaw harder and felt like her teeth were going to break.

Arden looked at her.

“It’s very bold of you to come look for me, Violet. I warned you that I was coming for you.” Arden said with a threatening tone.

“Instead I came for you.” she growled.

She could feel his eyes penetrating her soul with anger.

“You did mess everything up. If I only knew how spoiled and rebellious you’d become, I would never send you in a mission like that.”

“I'm glad you did. Only then I was able to see who you really were. Now we are free from you.”

Arden let out a hideous laugh that made Violet’s blood freeze.

“You’re as free from me as you were when you were living in my house.” Arden uttered. “I’m getting my power back, and I’ll be invincible then. And you and all of that shitty pack that sheltered you will vanish from the Crescent, as if you never existed.”

After Arden finished saying that, two things happened at the same time.

A roar came from Violet's side, and then she realized that Lance had shifted to his wolf form.

And at the same instant, Violet felt something banging her head extremely hard.

The pain was so strong that she felt nauseated and her sight got blurred.

Trying to get her senses back, Violet turned to see who had attacked her and saw Gwen looking at her with infuriated eyes.

She couldn’t let the woman stop them from completing their mission.

She had to stop her, even if that meant attacking her as well.

Feeling the electricity coming through her arms and concentrating on her hand, Violet pointed at Gwen and made the girl levitate, tossing her on the wall behind her right after.

And then she heard something, and when she saw that Gwen was still trying to get up a little stunned from the blow, Violet turned to see Lance making a move and attacking Arden.

Then a scream, loud as Lance’s howl, indicated that Gwen also saw the same thing as her.

Violet saw Arden’s figure disappearing behind Lance’s shadow, and she closed her eyes immediately, not wanting to watch that scene.

Gwen’s shout was terrifying enough for Violet, she didn’t need more.

She didn’t need to see to understand that Arden was dead.
