The Basketball Court Swordsman

Chapter 25 - : Two young people

In two months, the team’s official assistant coach. These two words kept spinning in Henson’s head, and after letting him cross over, it was the second time that he was tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep. The first time, it was when An Jiali fell drunk on his bed.

Henson did not expect his progress to be so fast. He only joined the Pacers as a scout for less than a year. Of course, if you count Henson before crossing over, he has actually been a ball for almost three years. Explored. But before that, Henson’s resume was almost blank.

From a scout to an assistant coach, this is undoubtedly a turning point for a basketball worker. Vogel, Henson’s good friend in the coaching staff, took seven years to get to this point, but Henson, in fact, only spent almost a year.

Bird gave Henson two months to prepare, but don’t think that two months are sufficient. From formulating training plans to arranging in detail the employment strategy, rotation strategy, tactics, etc. of each game, these workloads are not comparable to those in the summer league. The NBA has 82 regular season games, which is still not counting the playoffs. This shows that the job of an assistant coach is not that easy and capable.

After lying on the bed all night, Henson woke up with big dark circles under his eyes. In fact, he didn’t sleep well all night. For a moment, Henson felt that the books he had read during his vacation were far from enough. Basketball is really not a game of war on paper. Even after reading so many books, you will feel unable to start.

Henson got up and drank a glass of milk as always and ate two slices of toast. Today the team has no training, and he still has no work to do as a scout. Just as Henson was about to go to the Indiana University library to read in the afternoon, Bird called.

“Should I be on a business trip again?” Henson mumbled and connected the phone. After all, his current position is still just a scout.

“I didn’t sleep last night, man, hahahahaha” As soon as Bird answered the phone, he laughed triumphantly, as if he could control everything.

“I slept very well, Bird.” Henson gave a blank look, and this fellow Bird still pretended to be so old.

“Whatever you say, Henson, but if I were you, I would definitely be anxious now. How about? Play golf with me in the afternoon? Or go to Indiana University to read?”

“Golf, don’t you already have Pritchard? People say that Pritchard’s job is to play golf with you.” Henson still joked with Bird, although Bird can give people a lot A sense of oppression, but for now, Henson prefers to treat Bird as a friend rather than his boss.

“Boy, your mouth is very likely to make you take technical fouls on the sidelines. Don’t come, forget it, but I also suggest you don’t go to Indiana University to read books. No coach can tell by just reading books. I have Recommend a more interesting place to you. Would you like to listen?”

Byrd deliberately sold it off and waited for others to ask questions. This was what he learned from Henson.

“Well, let you pretend it. So dear Mr. Bird, where is this place?” Henson now finally knows why so many people wanted to kill Bird before.

“Butler University, not far from downtown Indianapolis. When you arrive, find a guy named Brad Stevens and say I let you go.”

“Brad Stevens?” Henson frowned when he heard the strange name.

As Bird said, Butler University is indeed not far from downtown Indianapolis. Carter only took 20 minutes to drive Henson to the campus surrounded by greenery.

Butler University, Henson knows very little about this school, because even in Indianapolis, this is not a famous basketball school. This school has never entered the NCAA knockouts, nor has it produced any star that can stand in the NBA.

But Bird recommended Henson to come here, certainly not to let him browse the campus scenery. After all, during the past time as a scout, Henson has run most of the famous American schools.

Henson did not wander around, but went straight to the basketball arena of the Butler University Bulldogs. Henson firmly believed that the person he was looking for must be in the basketball hall.

After proving his identity, the gate guard of the arena soon personally led Henson. Coming here for almost a year of accumulation, Henson still has some status and fame in the hearts of local Indianapolis fans. That amazing Chinese scout, no Pacers fan has never heard of it, but they may not have seen a real person.

“Really, sir, when I read the news, I didn’t expect you to be so young.” The doorman is also a Pacers fan, so he is very clear about Henson’s background. But then again, in Indianapolis, there are very few people who don’t watch basketball.

“Really? I keep telling others that age doesn’t represent strength.” Henson smiled politely, and they walked into the basketball hall while they were talking. Inside, many players are already training.

“Hey, Brad, you have a guest!” After entering the basketball hall, the doorman shouted at a young man in sportswear by the court.

“Brad, this is Henson Joe, the scout for the Indiana Pacers. This is our head coach Brad Stevens, I won’t bother you.”

The guard left alone after introducing the two of them, leaving Henson standing in place with some surprise. He thought this guy named Stevens was an old man, but he seemed to be about his own age!

“Mr. Henson? Byrd has already called me. It’s a great honor to admire my name for a long time.”

Henson shook hands with Stevens mechanically. What did he just say? Age really does not represent strength. I am still complacent about becoming an assistant coach, but this guy who is not a few years older than himself is already the head coach of the NCAA team.

There is really no heaven outside, there are some outside people.

Henson and Stevens got along very well, and Bird’s purpose was simple, to let Henson come to Stevens to learn. Of course, this study is a long-term, after all, one day can not be a fat man. It seems that Bird is not only optimistic about Henson, but also very optimistic about this young coach who is teaching at Butler University.

Stevens, like Frank Vogel, is not a systematically trained coach. Stevens was unknown when he was a player. When he was in college, he also chose Diebold University, which is centered on academics. After four years of graduation, he received a bachelor’s degree in economics and worked in a pharmaceutical company.

In this regard, Stevens and Henson look very similar. Their work and majors at the beginning have nothing to do with basketball.

But unlike Henson, Stevens chose basketball because of pure love, not because of desperation. Stevens was already the company’s head of marketing operations at the time, and the future was bright. But for basketball, he chose to work as an unpaid basketball volunteer at Butler University.

While working as a volunteer, Stevens worked in a restaurant for a living. It is this perseverance and dedication to love that made Stevens finally achieve a positive result and become a well-known young coach in Indianapolis!

Compared with the previous Henson who asked the university professor to walk through the back door because of desperation, Stevens’s experience is undoubtedly much more inspirational. If he hadn’t seen this person with his own eyes, Henson would certainly not believe Stevens’s Hollywood inspirational movie-like life experience.

The two chatted very speculatively, perhaps because they were similar in age, or perhaps because of similar experiences. All people who have experience similar to Henson will chat with him for speculation, and Frank Vogel is the same.

Watching the players training, Stevens also taught Henson a lot of experience in developing training plans. A white striker in the Bulldogs team attracted Henson’s attention because the guy had an A-level potential.

“That guy named Gordon Hayward, he will become a great player in the future.” While studying, Henson also chatted with Stevens about his players.

“I think so too. Gordon worked very hard. He is already known as the best native white forward in the United States! Mr. Henson’s vision is as accurate as the rumors.” Stevens couldn’t help but admire Henry. Sen, he has seen Hayward playing for less than two hours before he can see the potential of a player.

In fact, with the help of the data analysis module, Henson can usually tell the quality of a player in only ten minutes.

“By the way, Henson, how do you usually learn tactics?” Stevens turned to look at this interesting scout. During the chat, Stevens discovered that Henson’s tactical training was actually good, but he didn’t. Law practice.

“Me? I usually read books in the library.”

“You can’t just read a book, come on, come to my office, I’ll show you something.” Stevens beckoned, and then asked his assistant to look after the players.

After walking into Stevens’ office, Henson saw an old TV set and a stack of cut-out pieces of white paper next to the TV set.

“I will watch all the coach’s game videos. As soon as I see interesting tactics, I will write them down and improve them. In fact, everything I will learn from others! I think it depends on the actual situation. It’s easier to learn the tactics of the game than to read a book. Of course, if you don’t have a basis of theoretical knowledge, it’s definitely not. But you, Henson, you don’t have such a problem.”

Looking at the small pieces of paper with slashes and circles on Stevens’s desk, Heng nodded thoughtfully.

This trip to Butler was really not in vain.
