The Cage Of The Past

The following day Xiaoxi Chen stood in front of GU Corp headquarters. This is her first day of work. Looking at the silhouette of the sixty-six story building it is indeed luxurious and magnificent colored with sky blue the entire building shines and glittering under the sun. It was located at the central district in Shanghai, one of the most renowned companies engaging financial and technology businesses.

She took a deep breath, walking toward the main entrance. When she got inside she immediately asks the receptionist in front where she would go to report. The girl said that she will be ȧssigned to the CEO office on the last floor. She bid her farewell and walk forward to the elevators. Since it was morning some of the employees wearing an elegant suit coming in along with her. Three elevators already occupied so she decided to get to the last one which was empty. Her mind is occupied and didn't able to recognize why it was empty. She is about to get in when she heard a loud voice saying: "Stop this elevator is exclusively for the CEO and high ranking directors. You are not allowed to use it." It was Rouzhen Gu standing near her along with Zion Ni.

She was embarrassed looking at Rouzhen Gu's cold eyes. Zion Ni doesn't utter any words but only giving her a sweet smile. Rouzhen Gu saw it so he throw murderous look towards Zion Ni. "Move back and get into another elevator and remember to never use this elevator again, Understood?!" His cold voice giving her a warning while passing by in a hurry without looking at her face.

"I'm sorry Sir, I didn't know that this is exclusively for your own use. My sincere apology! She bowed down her head holding back her emotions. " Move faster and don't be late"! The last words she heard before the door shut down.

She heard the front desk receptionist talking about her. "She passes the interview yesterday even though she didn't have a good qualification. GU Corp CEO really sometimes looking at the pretty face even though someone like her is not competitive to get hired.

"Shh! Lower down your voice, she can still hear you! Said by the other receptionist.

"Nah I don't care she's just a pretty face with no talent. Let's see if she can stay here longer."

Xiaoxi felt so embarrassed at that moment but she manages to walk forward and let those gossip pass through her ears. What's most important now is she gets the job and she promised to herself that she will do her best to not get fired. Five minutes before working hour she arrived at the top floor. She sighed in relief and she said to herself that she must come early next time.

Still breathing hard trying to recover her composure she heard a voice behind her that scared her again. " Are you Xiaoxi Chen?"

When she turned around, she saw secretary Qi Feng standing behind her with a serious face. She still remembered the name of the secretary because she's the one giving her a call yesterday informing that she's being hired as a personal secretary of CEO Rouzhen Gu. "Hello, good morning secretary Qi Feng! Yes, I am Xiaoxi Chen. '' She greeted her lively giving her best smile.

A faint nod, secretary Qi Feng is very polite but tend to put a distance between the two of them. "Welcome to GU Corp!" Nice to meet you, Ms. Chen! Her tone was neither aggressive nor conciliatory.

Secretary Qi Feng took her to her work station outside the CEO Office. She gives her an orientation on how the workflow goes. She will be responsible for blocking unwanted visitors to the CEO office, answering incoming calls, making an appointment, and bring the document to the CEO. She has also been informed that every morning once Mr. Gu arrived at his office she should bring a cup of coffee immediately.

"Ms. Chen, can you do all those tasks? She abruptly asked her after a short briefing.

"Maybe!" Xiaoxi Chen said. Secretary Qi Feng dislike her answer. "Secretary Chen, starting from today, you must be careful upon answering any question with the word "Maybe" our CEO didn't like it. You only need to answer a yes or a no. Clear?!"

"Yes, I can do the task, and I will remember what you have told me." she smiles at her.

Secretary Qi Feng smiled back slightly. " Do not worry if things get in trouble just call my attention and knock my door I am more than willing to help you all the time." It is an ȧssurance coming from a senior secretary that give Xiaoxi enough confident to do her job properly. She is now setting in front of her working table trying to absorb every word that secretary Qi Feng told her when suddenly CEO office opened.

"Where's my coffee!" Rouzhen Gu waited for so long so he decided to come out and call the attention of his new secretary. Xiaoxi Chen stood subconsciously and nervous seeing those pair of dark eyes like a star in the night sky staring at her.

"Y-yes! Xiaoxi Chen immediately went to the pantry to brew his coffee. How can she forget immediately that every morning CEO need a cup of coffee? She is silently castigating herself for being so oblivious. She suddenly felt uneasy and to think this is her first day at work. She saw the CEO's eyes looking at her intently and it makes her feel shivered.

Why the CEO will look at her like that? Is she doing something wrong again that makes him angry? Damn, how can she forget secretary Qi Feng reminders that the man needs a cup of coffee every morning? It is also a scope of her work, she needs to be more cautious with her act starting today.

Taking a deep breath, Xiaoxi Chen patiently waiting to completely brew the coffee. She had special skills doing it and some of her close friends use to admire her. The coffee smelled suffuse with an exquisite fragrance, then she's heading to Rouzhen Gu's office.

The closer to the door she is, her heart beats rapidly. On the first day of work facing such a strict boss, she's afraid that she might commit mistakes and get fired. She finally raised her hand and knocked at the thick mahogany door.

"Come in." A deep voice came inside the room inviting her to get inside. Xiaoxi suddenly stunned upon hearing his voice it sounds familiar to her. Maybe somewhere else. She paused for a while and push the door to open it.

" Sir, your coffee. Sorry for making you wait," she said immediately and put down the coffee in front of him.

"Well, get out." His head didn't lift. The man sitting in his table looking seriously at the documents his been reading. The sun was slanting in from the window behind him. Under the golden glory, he was plated by it with a dazzling aperture and let people don't dare to look at him.

"Yes!" she is about to leave when she heard him saying:

"Wait!" The man lifted his head and look at her face. The strong aroma of the coffee makes his urge to look at her directly. She is waiting for his words and can't help herself not to feel nervous. Her knees are shaking.

The eyes full of coldness, making other people feel scared to approach him but the temperament of it let people couldn't ignore him and even want his attention.

"The coffee is brewed by you?" Rouzhen Gu asked suddenly. His eyes looking down the cup and smelling a taste of original Brazilian aroma.

" Yes sir!" she reluctantly answered. She subconsciously lowered her head, her face turned red, she rarely got along with men. She couldn't hide her blushing face.

He looked at her again and recognize her face blush but he never utters any words. Looking at her for a long time. Behind his mind he is longing for this beautiful face for a very long time, giving him so many sleepless nights.

"Sir, still have anything else?" Xiaoxi Chen couldn't stand it so she asked. The awkward moment felt her entire body trembled. She's been standing in front of him a little longer. His stares pass through her soul that seems telling her something she can't figure out.

"Rouzhen Gu took a sip of his coffee and taste a sweet aroma. He likes the taste of his coffee which is the first time in his life pleases his taste buds. He is indeed satisfied with it. " Get out!" he said abruptly.
