The Cage Of The Past

For almost two weeks, Xiaoxi Chen did not receive a call from Mr. Fox. Suddenly, she was a little nervous, and she did not know why. She was afraid that the man would disappear, by then, she will never have a chance to see her son anymore.

She hesitated for a long time, holding her phone and pressing the driver's contact number. So much nervous and confusion yet dial the number, after several minutes, hesitantly, finally, she decided to call the driver's number.

"Miss, how may I help you?" the man said at the other end.

"Mr. driver, can you put me in touch with your boss?" She said at last. "Or give me his number, instead, so I can call him directly!"

Cautiously the driver answered, "Miss, I can't grant your request to give his contact number. He strictly told me not to disclose his number. I will contact him today, don't worry. I will do a return call once he gives me an instruction,"

"I see. Okay, then I'll wait for your call! Thank you so much!" After putting down her phone, Xiaoxi Chen is very nervous. She knew it was too dangerous to make such an abrupt call but she wanted to see her son and she's a little bit afraid that the man would disappear.

Today is Thursday, and Chao is not at home.

Xiaoxi Chen only thought the night was long, and once she stopped she would miss her son, who she only sees once, some foolish ideas come into her mind out of frustration. She only wanted to see her son after five years of losing him but the man makes it difficult for her.

She feels the cold night and she curled up on the sofa while waiting for the driver's call.

The clock is ticking and she heard it. It seems her waiting take so long, after almost an hour, her phone rang. She quickly picks her phone and she saw a message from a strange number.

Xiaoxi Chen frowned suspiciously, opened the message and saw a few words on it, "I heard that you are looking for me?"

Is it him? She wondered!

Immediately a message popped up on her phone, "Anything you need just notify me through a text message, don't call!"

She was taken aback. Her instinct knows that it was the masked man, she takes a deep breath and she types her message then sent, "When can I see my son?"

After she sent the message, she stared at her phone, nervously waiting for his reply.

After an hour, anxiety attack occupied her mind, suddenly her cellphone rang again. She hurriedly opened the message, "It will be soon! We agreed for three months being together, right?"

She replied another message to him, "I know, but when would I can see my son?"

Rouzhen replied at the other end after she read her message: "Baby, I said it will be soon! And after you see him, what is your plan?"

When Xiaoxi Chen read the message, bleary-eyed occurred. She doesn't have any plans yet. Right now she is only determined to see her son, maybe, later on, she can think of a good plan for them. What could she bring to her child?

For five years, the kid has grown up with his father and she did not get a chance to take care of him. She vaguely remembers that night she spent with Mr. Fox, he received a call on his phone from someone she thought that his wife because she heard sweet words he said to the woman. She knows that the man is looking for a surrogate mother to carry his child because the man's partner couldn't bear it. She hesitates to accept the contract but that time she needs a huge amount for her sick mother. Unfortunately, that night her Mom passed away.

After five years, she desperately agreed to the man's stupid arrangement just to see her son, she wants to know if the wife of Mr. Fox treated their son fairly even it wasn't coming from her. The man had unreasonable demands and she endured it just to meet her child.

When her message was sent out she immediately fell into a daze, she curled up on the sofa and wait for his answer. She felt broken deep inside and hollowed out because she waited for the moment she could hug her son.

For a while a feeling of grievance surged up in her heart, a sore in her throat is hurting so much and tears from her eyes rolled down, why the fate tormented a weak woman like her?

"How about being my woman?" The other side sent another message after a long silence pass by.

The words are so familiar, she thought. It makes her shiver thinking it, as someone who often told her, it is none other than ROUZHEN GU!"

She disregarded her a weird thought because she knows it would not be possible, that Mr. Fox and Rouzhen is the same person. She bitterly smiled when Rouzhen image flashed in her mind, then she replied to the message, "Being your woman? For how long?"

"Honey it is forever! Be my wife!" Rouzhen replied to her.

Her heart began to tremble, the duration is forever, it's like a promise of eternal love. Don't he have a wife? Tears slipped down in her beautiful face, she had been used to being alone and she never promised to anybody. She was afraid to be with someone because she thinks happiness is only for a short period. A relationship doomed to end and cause sorrow and pain once one party full out of love.

Now, seeing the message from the strange man who was the father of her child, her heart sank in a moment. "Just by that I can see my son?" she asked.

"You can accompany him until he grows up. Being his Mom and my wife! We waited for you for so long, baby!"

Her hand tightened then replied to him, "You mean I can always be with my son? As long as I grant your request? Just being your lover, that simple? Don't you have a wife?"

"Naive woman, I said be my wife! Not just a lover. Do you think I can offer you to be my wife if I had it already?!" Rouzhen sent a message. He is smiling silently because he knew Xiaoxi had fallen in love with him.

"Can I see your face?" she doesn't know why just feel like she wanted to see him first before she gives her answer.

"You want to see me? Is that a confirmation coming from you to be my woman?" he said.

"You said you want me to be your woman. You want to wear your mask for the entire life, who's a stupid woman would accept it?" she said.

Rouzhen was shocked by Xiaoxi's replied. It took how many minutes of silence before he typed his message.

She almost thought he would not send another message. Suddenly her phone rang again and a short message came, "You will gonna hate me!"

"Hate him?" she got puzzled.

Xiaoxi Chen asked herself from the bottom of her heart, is he wanting another contract? Another deal, why should she hate him if he will show his face? She didn't know either if she hates him or not. There's something behind the man that seems so familiar to her. But for five years, the agony and pain from her child separation were always tearing her heart. She did not hate him for stealing their child when she heard that he took care of him properly. She took a deep breath and uttered a word--- "who you are and why would I hate you?"

She looks at the phone blankly, can't wait for another message from him. She still thinking about what he means by saying she will "hate" him. All she wants is to see her son not to be a woman to a stranger. She doesn't know what she'll be going to say, being his woman? To keep her and their son, what about Chao? Confused and tired she didn't answer him back.

Rouzhen Gu was sitting in the dark living room. Holding his mobile phone and having cigarettes, on the other hand, he somewhat languid and decadent, but still can't give up his domineering attitude.

"Rou Rou, you are a little strange recently. You look restless!" Zion Ni asked him when he comes to his office the next day.

"Are you free again?" Rouzhen Gu raised his head. His low and cold voice was heard. His loneliness can't be hidden and Zion saw his physical appearance.

"Not really, I just came here to chat with you!" Zion Ni raised his cup of coffee after he comes to Rouzhen's office.

Door push opened. Someone's voice came in. "Ha! So, you guys are here?" Suddenly a beautiful woman walks towards them.

They both looked up and saw a beaming face in front of them, wearing a dense patterned T-shirt that reflects a little woman's lovely face. Pale denim with espadrilles on her feet appeared suddenly. Her shining image could capture everyone's attention. She's Samantha Ni, Zion's adopted sister.

"When did you come back?" Zion Ni asked in surprised. "Didn't you tell Mom and Dad that you will not be coming back?"

"An hour ago and when I got home Mom said you're at work so I decided to come here. Don't you want to see me?" Samantha sat down, while she's talking.

"You, brother and sister talk, I am leaving for an important meeting!" Rouzhen Gu's dumb voice finally has a little emotion. Stood up coldly, looked at Samantha and then blinked his eyes. "I think Zion, had missed her little sister! Am I right?" he patted his shoulder before leaving.

"Brother Rouzhen, why are you leaving?" Zion tried to stop him.

"I think you two need some privacy!" Rouzhen Gu said and stormed out.

Zion Ni frowned. "What do you mean?"

Rouzhen ignored him.

"Big brother Rou Rou, thank you!" Samantha said.

"Hey, I don't know what both of you agreed. Samantha, why did you come here? This is not an appropriate place to talk, let's go home!" Zion Ni was annoyed.

"But when we are at home, you didn't talk to me!" She rolled her eyes. "You are avoiding me!" she said loudly.

"You know the reason why. Let's go home!" Zion Ni roared at her.

"Go back home alone now and let go of my hand. I still have something to do!" Zion's cold voice came out.

"Are you going to pick up someone again?" she snapped.

Zion Ni dazzles, suddenly smile strangely. "Yes! Are you jealous?"

"Brother! I am going to tell Mom and Dad about it!" she screamed.

"You dare to tell them about us? That night we spent together in my room?" he smiled faintly.

Samantha felt sad and she walked away without a word.

Zion Ni punches the table after she left. "How can she come back after what had happened?" He asked in his mind and the pain came in. He suffered when she left their home without a word after she said she got pregnant with their child.
