The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

Chapter 13 - Prophecy

Antaler rushed through the corridors of the royal castle. He's currently on his way towards His Majesty Thelia Herron III's throne room. It took him a week to go and check the magic signal they caught about one and a half a week ago. In the territory of Vulca City, where Feraz Village was supposed to be, there was a field with high mana concentration. It was the first time something like that happened and Antaler did not know what he was supposed to do.

He was the sole disciple of the Archmage and did his duties with zeal. He was at his position for years now and he was an aspiring magician as well. He was just 35 years old this year and he was accepted to the School of Magic when he was just 9 years old!

As he approached the throne room, imperial guards stopped him.

"Halt! State your intent!"

"My name is Antaler. I am the disciple of the Archmage Fremin and I have returned to give my report. Make way."

The guard's face turned ashen when he heard who it was in front of him. After that he signaled his colleague and they opened the doors to the throne room quickly. After giving a simple bow with his head, Antaler stepped in.

There was a meeting in place when he entered and various officials were giving their monthly report. When he entered there were some eyes focusing on him but he was mostly ignored.

"And therefore we should limit our funding of 'Mana Crystal' research and focus on more important fronts."(Finance Advisor Meerlio)

"How can you so ignorant?! Those mana crystals can save our kingdom!" (Minister of Magic Archmage Fremin)

"They are just some fairy tales, Archmage Fremin. With the dynasties behind our backs, we are left with almost nothing to feed our soldiers!" (1st General Joule)

"Enough! The funding for your research shall be cut by half, archmage. We have more pressing matter at hand." (King Thelia Herron III)

"But you majesty-"

"I said enough! Also, even without the full funding, you might be able to conclude your research. Step up, my child."

"By your order!" (Antaler)

"Introduce yourself and state your findings."

"By your order. My name is Antaler Gerdas. I am currently affiliated with the Imperial School of Magic and my humble self is the disciple of Archmage Fremin. I was sent to investigate a magic signal we caught three weeks prior. I return from the site we got the signal. The site is near Helenia Forest bordering Vulca City and Leilo City, a village called Feraz in Vulca City's jurisdiction. Our journey took us one and a half weeks to go and return. My findings are, chilling to say the least. We were supposed to be welcomed by a sight of a village, according to locals near the area but what we saw was just a calm green clearing. We interrogated some common folk that lived in nearby villages and gatherings but they swore there was a village there. The only thing that resembles a previous human touch is a single support beam of a building.

Some of the hunters reported that a fire broke out nearby roughly the same time as the incident and that it has gone for several days. The actual place had high levels of mana but that was not irritating at all, in contrast the previously found and the current research site, Juula Field is hard to even approach with its high mana concentration. The wild life was very calm and the site gave off a divine feeling. I speculate that the mana concentration is higher than Juula Field, even higher than the capital city."

"You are just spouting nonsense! How can a village just disappear?!" (Finance Advisor Meerlio)

"I suggest you don't be so nosey with subjects you're unfamiliar with, Lord Meerlio. There are spells that are capable of even more destruction than you can imagine. What intrigues me is, that level of highly concentrated mana does not irritate its surroundings. I suggest we start investigations immediately!" (Minister of Magic Archmage Fremin)

"Don't be foolish Archmage Fremin! We have a war to prepare for!" (1st General Joule)

"And what I'm saying is, 1st General, that this investigation can help us overcome our enemies with great power! Your majesty, I volunteer for this investigation myself. I shall gather the necessary personnel and, with your permission, put a research camp at the site." (Archmage Fremin)

"Permission granted, Archmage Fremin. I shall accompany you as well! I shall see this site with my own eyes."

"But your majesty! This is most definitely dangerous! You mustn't-" (1st General Joule)

"Calm your temper, General Joule. If you are that worried, you shall be my guard on this journey."

"B-by your orders."

"Prepare the imperial beasts! We shall be on our way in two days!"

""By your orders!"" (Everyone in the throne room)

With that order, everybody in the room started to rush to their duties. Archmage Fremin gave a list of names to Antaler as well as his seal and ordered him to gather everyone in the Meeting Room #1 in the School of Magic by the evening. After that he was called beside the king and they started to plan various things.

While all this was happening 1st General Joule gathered the imperial guards and had them prepare for the oncoming journey. Finance Advisor Lord Meerlio was in his office signing paperwork for the newest research project, all the while cussing inside. This would stretch the pockets of the kingdom quite a bit.

After two days, at the garden allocated for the imperial beasts. This garden was used for upbringing and caring of the imperial beasts. These beasts were a special kind of magical beasts that were able to fly. They are called Great Hawk and they are a strong breed of magical beasts even among the flight types. This garden doubled as their caring facility and their landing place. As it was hard to tame them and even approach them, these Great Hawks were under the control of the King Herron himself and they are only brought upon his orders.

King Thelia Herron III approached as he was given report on their preparations and the condition of the staff and equipment.

"Good. We shall be on our way then. General! How are the skies?" (King Thelia Herron III)

"All clear my liege. Reports state we can expect a full day of clear skies!" (1st General Joule)

"Good. Then get ready gentleman! We are leaving!"

""By your order!""

They lifted off and among the cries of Great Hawks, they left for their destination, formerly known as Feraz Village. Their journey took a full two days. When they arrived, all of the personnel there were shocked with what they saw. The maps indicated there was indeed a village in that area but their eyes only saw a green clearing, save for a support beam near the center of the supposed village. There were not even spots caused by buildings. It was like there was never a village there in the first place.

"By the Gods… What happened here?" (1st General Joule)

"Just like what your student said. Antaler was it?" (King Thelia Herron III)

"Yes, your majesty. It was indeed him that investigated here with a small troop of soldiers." (Archmage Fremin)

"Give him a full raise to his funding."

"By your order." (Archmage)

"Descend! Let's see how high the mana concentration is."

They descended slowly and carefully. They landed a little far from the site, out of the village borders according to map. And as they walked towards the centre of the site, mana concentration got higher and higher.

"This much mana! It should feel crushing! But it feels natural?" (Archmage Fremin)

"Are you unsure, Fremin?" (1st General Joule)

"Our knowledge about mana indicates that this much mana should interfere with natural order and cause chaos in the surroundings. But what we see and feel here is obviously the opposite."

"By the Gods. I've never thought a day where you are unsure of what you know would come, Archmage."

"Everything has its due time."

"Alright. Mages, start your investigation! General, have your men set camp at the outskirts of the site. We still don't know if this phenomenon would cause anything unwanted!" (King Herron)

""By your order!""

"You have nothing to worry about, your majesty." (???)

"Who!?" (1st General Joule)

A mysterious voice came out of nowhere. General Joule moved instinctively and brandished his sword. Even though he could not see his target he knew it was there so he swung without hesitation. The impact of metal against metal transmitted through his arm and he finally saw his target for the first time. He was standing there with his hand up with General Joule's sword against his neck. The other soldiers' were a beat late.

He had greasy blonde hair and a blind fold on, indicating he was blind. He had a long stick that he used as a support. He was about 1.80 cm long and he looked like he was 30 or so years old.

"Aah. Looks like I scared you." (???)

"State your intent!" (1st General Joule)

"I'm here to tell you the truth. I'm just a hermit. I'm not a threat to his majesty King Thelia Herron III."

"Speak Hermit." (King Herron)

"But your majesty!" (General Joule)

"It's okay. What could a blind hermit do when I have you and Archmage Fremin by my side?"

"Yes, your majesty."

"Ahem. As I said before, I'm here to tell you the truth."

"Truth about what, hermit?"

{White head and crimson sight

A demon comes hither accompanied by blight

The limits of his might is unknown

Even with our blessings we are on our own

He will rage and wage war

Our Gods, under his feet, will crawl

Do not be blinded by his charm

For it is a demon's way to cause harm

His name from afar we'll only hear

Beware beware our nemesis is here.}

And here you go, your majesty."

"What is this hermit? Are you trying to be funny?" (King Herron)

"This is the truth, your majesty. The truth of what happened here. A demon is making his way to our world. His eyes shine crimson and his white hair dances with the wind. He will wage war against our world, even against our Gods."

"You said white hair and crimson eyes? You're blind! How can you see those details? Hahaha!" (General Joule)

"I see everything that you can't clearly, boy!" (Hermit)

"Boy!? How dare you-"

"Enough! Archmage Fremin! Conduct your research here. Everyone who is not needed, we are returning to the capital!" (King Herron)

""By your order!""

"Good luck, your majesty."

And with that prophecy in mind, King Thelia Herron III returned to the capital and a new imperial decree was made public: Anyone who has any information about a white haired red eyed person and suspect they saw a demon shall immediately notify the authorities. Relevant information will be rewarded.

At the same day as that, a letter arrived at the city lord of Vulca City, notifying him of this news.

"I have to report this news to 'them' immediately!"

------------------------------------------------------------

While all of this was happening, the hermit walked through the forest with a calm smile.

"And everything is happening as it should be."

"Do you think it was enough?"

"Yes. This should be enough."

"But why did you notify them? Even you can't stand against that power."

"Alone? Yes, you're right. But with a force this big? Then we may begin to have a sliver of chance to fight back."

After this, he chuckled to himself while walking inside the forest, hidden by the dark of night.
