The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

Chapter 22 - Seen Through

When Rhaxtyx opened his eyes, he could not see much. There was something heavy pressing on his face and because of that he could not open his eyes much. He soon realized that nothing was pressing on his face. Rather his face was pressing on the bed. He lifted his head sat up. He looked through this unfamiliar room for a while before remembering that he was still Disguised as Rax. An adventurer who died the night before that stayed here. He was practicing the Shadow Arts in the night but got bored after he didn't make much progress and decided to sleep instead.

He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes before standing up and scratching his b.u.t.t. He walked towards the sink in the room to wash his face and did some stretching moves to relax his body. He looked at the still sleeping Badgey and walked towards the only window of the room while yawning. He opened the curtain and took a look at the street.

People were starting to flood the streets while sun rose. Farmers were going to tend to their farms and various soldiers patrolled the streets. Shops were opening and stalls were getting put up. Leilo City was waking up.

He yawned once more and left the room to enter his own room. Luckily there was no one in the vicinity, especially someone that knew Rax closely because he entered his room while still under the Disguise.

He picked up some raw materials and a change of clothes before dropping his Disguise and leaving his room. He entered Rax's room to wake Badgey up. After it woke up Rhaxtyx picked him up and descended the stairs to enter the restaurant area of the inn to have breakfast.

He gave his order and sat on a table near the corner. He could observe the people that were there from where he sat and did not gather much attention at the same time. He took a look at his surroundings while he waited his breakfast. There were not so many people compared to yesterday but there were still some. They were all in the same condition: barely awake.

His breakfast was ready and was being served but as he was in thought he did not realize the waitress calling him. After giving a nod to acknowledge the waitress, Rhaxtyx ordered a tea and began eating. There were some meat pieces reserved for Badgey in another plate so Rhaxtyx was freely enjoying his food without minding Badgey's bothering.

His tea came when he was about to finish so he decided to finish his meal and drink his tea whilst sitting on the front porch. He took a chair with him while going out and put it right next to the door of the inn. Badgey followed him closely and jumped on his l.a.p after Rhaxtyx sat down. Rhaxtyx was a bit surprised when Badgey jumped on his l.a.p. He noticed that Badgey became slightly heavier than before after last night. He did not mind it much though as it was not uncomfortable. He watched people going to and fro. He watched as children ran off to the local school that is two blocks away. Their bags either in their hands or strapped to their shoulders like postmen. Town criers got on their morning news too, talking about the new settlement around where Feraz Village once was and a travelling circus approaching the city.

Rhaxtyx enjoyed himself like this for an hour or so before sitting back up and putting the chair to where he picked it up. He gave the tea mug to one of the waiters and went to wash his body. He relaxed his body in the steam room for half an hour or so before leaving. He did not want to fall asleep in the steam room. Even though he wouldn't die, he still would feel uncomfortable all over his body after exiting it with that much sweat. He changed his clothes and went towards the old innkeeper. He had left the raw materials to this man before his breakfast. He picked them up and inquired about where he could sell them for a good price.

"Oh these? Ya could sell'em to da adventure guild. Ye can get a fine price from'em."

"And where is this guild?"

"Oh it's easy. Ya see…"

After he got the directions from the old man, Rhaxtyx left the inn. He had his materials in a pouch over his shoulder. He did not carry all of his raw materials, just a small batch to learn the market prices for these and how popular they were.

Rhaxtyx went on his way and took a detour, entering an alley. When he exited that alley, He was Disguised as Rax and Badgey on his shoulder was the skunk like creature. He made his way towards the Adventurers Guild. He saw the sign of the guild; a wizard's staff between two swords in a cross pattern and in front of them a shield and a couple of arrows at the either side of them. A simple but eye-catching design.

Rhaxtyx approached the building. He saw a couple of groups, adventure parties in front of the building. They were crowding in front of the building, not entering. When he approached one of the bulkier adventurers called out to him.

"Don't bother friend. There are too much people inside. You can't even breathe."

"What happened?" (Rhaxtyx)

"Just the regular stuff. Handing in quests or applying for them. Just too much people today."

"I see. How much you think this will take?"

"It'll at most take about an hour or an hour and half at most. They work fast here."

"Thank you."

So Rhaxtyx began to wait. He sat on the stairs of the porch and put his pouch on his knees and took Badgey off of his shoulder. Sun began to rise higher as it became late morning. The line of the guild began clearing about an hour later, just like the bulky adventurer said. So he entered the building and walked towards a line.

There were not many people on this particular line so it took him faster to reach the desk. When he got closer to the desk he saw the receptionist was a young woman. She was clumsily doing her paperwork while attending to the adventurer in front of her. She was hectically moving about behind the desk, even making the adventurer worry about her making something fall.

Rhaxtyx smiled to this scene and scratched his cheeks. After a couple of minutes it was finally his turn. The adventurer before him told the receptionist to calm down and do her work carefully while smiling and chuckling. She was apologizing profusely and this made the adventurer feel warmer.

"Hello! Good morning! Welcome!"

"Good morning to you too."

"Are you here to hand in a quest? Or perhaps signing up to one?"

"Neither. I'm actually here to sell some raw materials."

"Really? Okay! We will have to take the items you want to sell and appraise them, find buyers and take the best offer for your interest. There's a fee for using the Guild's services for selling."

"It's fine. So when can I come for the results."

"Appraising should be done tomorrow. If you want you can take them and find buyers on your own after that point but it will take considerably longer than using our services. You can take your items from appraising about one hour after noon. If you want us to sell the items then the earliest you can have your money is tomorrow evening sir."

"That would help a lot! Please sell them for me. That would help a lot."

"As you wish! I'm going to need your name plate for registering sir."

"Here you go."

"Mr. Rax, is it? Okay. All done. Here're your doc.u.ments. Like I said you can withdraw your items tomorrow one hour past noon or you can check in tomorrow evening to see if it is sold. A fee will be taken according to the selling price. Usually it is a 5% fee."

"I see. Thank you madam."

"A p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e. Have a good day!"

Rhaxtyx took his papers and his name plate and left the materials for the guild. While the receptionist took the items to the back room, a man stopped her. It was the guild master of this branch. He had a tall body and a scarred face. He was a former A-Rank adventurer.

"Be mindful of him Helen. There's something off about him."

"What happened Guild master? He seemed like a nice guy."

"Just be careful with him."

'I'm letting you go for now. But I have my eyes on you.' (Guild Master)

Rhaxtyx left without knowing he drew suspicion to himself. He felt a gaze behind his head but felt no malice from it so he just let it slide. After exiting the building he took a deep breath and looked up in the sky while thinking to himself.

'Aahh. An adventurer huh? Not a bad idea actually. I can be an adventurer.'
