The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

Chapter 65 - Charm of a Beauty

Stephanie winked at Rhaxtyx after she said that, smiling coquettishly. Rhaxtyx just looked at her and frowned.

"Don't tell me you are going to try and seduce her?" (Rhaxtyx)

"I'm sorry what?"

She was visibly confused at Rhaxtyx sentence and her smile froze on her face.

"You said you had your ways and then smiled like that. It's normal that I assume you will try to seduce her with a smile like that."

"Oh dear."

Stephanie sighed and palmed her forehead gracefully. Her eyebrows were knit and she had a hard time trying to figure out what Rhaxtyx was trying to say.

"If not that, what are your ways then? Oh and let me tell you this in advance; if I don't like it, then forget about having a peaceful life anymore."

"Hoho. I see. So that's how it is."

Stephanie looked at Rhaxtyx and then Miriam and smiled playfully. She connected some dots between Rhaxtyx's and Miriam's relationship and this intrigued her even more about her patrons.

"Don't worry my dear, I will take utmost care of your companion."

"You better be. We were already attacked today and I am still angry about it. Don't give me a reason to release my anger on you."

While he was saying that the killing intent he radiated cooled the room down. Badgey was jolted awake by this and even Kai's face grimacing. When Rhaxtyx saw this he immediately stopped and looked at Stephanie again with menacing eyes.

"Oh dear, trust me. If those tricks worked on me, this place would not be what it is today."

"I said what I wanted to. Now it is your turn."

Stephanie chuckled and approached Miriam with slow steps. While she walked, she mumbled a few words under her breath and then touched Miriam's forehead. A small golden speck of light entered Miriam's body and Rhaxtyx immediately became alert at this.

Stephanie only smiled at this and continued. She shook her hand and bandages appeared in her palm. She then turned to Rhaxtyx and smiled.

"What?" (Rhaxtyx)

"You don't mean to say that you want to see a woman n.a.k.e.d?"

"Huh?"

"I am about to spread some healing balms near her broken ribs to accelerate her healing. So I want you to leave the room."

"Oh. Oh! Okay sorry. How about the little bastard?"

"The badger? I don't see any problem it being in the room."

"Are you serious? That thing is as intelligent as us."

"Are you that intelligent Mr. Badger?"

To Stephanie's question Badgey only tilted its head. Stephanie then smiled and indicated to Rhaxtyx with her eyes that he should leave the room. Rhaxtyx only looked at this situation and could only leave the room. When he looked at Badgey, he saw it snickering at him and winking before he closed the door.

'That little pervy bastard!'

Even though he thought like that, he was the only one that knew of Badgey's true intellect. Without much to do Rhaxtyx waited for Stephanie to finish. After five minutes, the door opened and Stephanie came out of the room with a smiling face.

"So?"

"She just needs some rest, other than that, she's fine."

"I'll be the judge of that."

Rhaxtyx went for the door but was stopped by Stephanie. She stepped in front of him and smiled while blocking the door.

"What are you doing?"

"You can trust me."

"This kind of behavior only makes me distrust you more."

"I promise she is fine."

"Step aside."

Rhaxtyx's aura changed for an instant before he retracted it. His hair fluttered a bit by the mana flow and a small wind sped up and stopped. Stephanie was surprised by this and smiled wryly before speaking.

"She trusts me and believe me; I don't betray the friends of my friend."

"Hmm?"

"Dire Wolf is my friend."

"Oh Damian? I see now. But I still don't trust you so I request you let me see her."

"You can, eventually. But I want to speak with you something."

Rhaxtyx's interest was piqued and his eyebrow was lifted after he heard this.

"What is it?"

"About what happened in the city earlier today."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Although Rhaxtyx feigned ignorance, Stephanie knew they were involved somehow. She just smiled and grabbed Rhaxtyx's arm.

"I just want to grab a cup of tea with you. Is it too much?"

When Rhaxtyx looked at her he blushed a bit. After all, Stephanie was a courtesan that once ran a brothel in the heart of the capital city of the Kingdom of Herron. She was gorgeous. Her smile was powerful enough to make nobles fall head over heels for her, even if she was in her mid-thirties or mid-forties. At a close proximity, even Rhaxtyx was allured by her sweet smile. That's why he involuntarily and reflexively nodded ever-so-slightly. Stephanie jumped in joy when she saw this and she gave out a sweet smile.

"Great! Let's go then."

"Where… exactly are we going to have this cup of tea?"

"In my quarters of course. Where else where you hoping?"

"Huh?"

Rhaxtyx was as if he was nailed to the ground after he heard this. His jaw dropped and his eyes opened wide with shock. There was only one thought in his head.

'Too aggressive!'

When she saw how Rhaxtyx behaved, she chuckled and led him by his arm. The dumbfounded Rhaxtyx was easy to drag around. They walked along the corridor and turned a corner to entered a room that was hidden from the eye. You would have to look around the floor to find this room.

This was the office and personal chambers of Stephanie. So it was decorated with lots of stuff. Her bed chamber was a room next door that was not used and was divided by an ornate door. The office had a sweet fragrance in it, probably Stephanie's perfume and showed Stephanie's personality well.

She liked fancy and luxurious looking stuff so she had a lot of oil paintings, expensive silk curtains and leather sofas, a dark oak table and chair and gold and silver decorations around the room. Rhaxtyx was able to come to himself thanks to these expensive stuff in the room.

Stephanie sat down to one of the sofas and looked at the still dumbfounded Rhaxtyx.

"Why are you just standing there. Sit down, the tea will get cold."

"I can't see a tea… though…"

Just as he was about to point out the absence of tea, Stephanie waved her hand and a teapot with two tea cups appeared on the coffee table. She then poured tea to the cups and handed one to Rhaxtyx. Rhaxtyx involuntarily took it and sat down to the opposite side. He didn't drink until Stephanie took a sip and spoke in a questioning manner.

"Is there a purpose for this, Miss?"

"You can call me Stephanie."

"Please answer my question Ms. Stephanie."

"Right to the point I see. I just wanted to get to know you."

"There's nothing interesting about me. Mmm! Nice tea!"

"Thank you. It doesn't have to be too interesting; I just want to learn why Damian trusts you and your companions."

"Is it that important?"

"Well he gave you my name didn't he? That is plenty as is."

"Is that so? Okay but why me and not Miriam or Roman."

"Well a simple blacksmith and an ex-assassin don't really pique my interest, that's why?"

After Stephanie said this, the hair on Rhaxtyx's back stood in their ends and his expression became serious. Just as he was about to speak something stopped him and he felt a piercing pain in his abdomen. He could only say words and not complete sentences in one go.

"What… was… in… the… tea?"

"Just a simple poison. Don't worry, it will do no harm. I just want you to talk with me. After all, someone as dangerous as you have entered my establishment. I have to take my precautions."

Stephanie's smile was still as sweet as ever. But her eyes were deep and profound, not even having the slightest amount of hesitation in her actions. Rhaxtyx didn't know where she was getting at, the only thing he knew was that he quickly had to fix this poison problem in his body. So he didn't say anything and focused to expel the poison. It wasn't really a hard thing for him to do and it was expelled from his body in an instant.

After expelling the poison he exhaled and looked at Stephanie viciously. This alerted her and she immediately put the tea cup down.

"What is the meaning of this, Ms. Stephanie."

"I didn't expect it to be this soon. The poison was supposed to stay in your body a little bit more and cleanse you form those idiots' influence. I apologize for that but I know you just had a fight with some Dynasty spies and they play dirty."

"You could be upfront about it and just asked me. This will only garner animosity."

"I'm afraid that something like that would be impossible. They would have their precautions against something like that."

"What are you talking about exactly?"

"I have various arrays installed around this building for safety and for surveillance. I saw you and that wizard land in one of the back alleys with the body of Sir Terry Pharlight. Am I correct?"

Rhaxtyx, after hearing this, calmed down a little and looked at Stephanie again. This time, her eyes were a lot gentler than a second before. He sighed and thought to himself.

"I have to be careful around this woman. She is the sneaky type.'

"Well?"

"Haah. What do you want to know?"

"Why don't we start with your name and where did you come from? I have to determine if you are a threat to me and this kingdom."

"First of all, I have to ask. What do you think of this kingdom?"

"It houses me and my employees. I was born here and have returned here again after my travels. Of course, I like this kingdom."

After hearing this Rhaxtyx was about to open his mouth to speak but was cut by Stephanie's next words.

"Oh and, I only want the truth. I can tell when you are lying."

Rhaxtyx looked at her and opened his mouth to speak.

"Okay then. The thing is…"
