27. God of Books

Translator: Ning LL

The library had forty-nine floors, on each of which were millions of books. That quantity was astonishing.

However, the floors in the library actually went down instead of going up. The books which were stored on the lower floors were more precious. For example, the books on the forty-ninth floor all recorded the most mysterious incidents in the Three Worlds, such as the secret of the disappearance of the high-level Demon Beast.

Lots of people were eager to know about all those secrets, and some of them had even broken into the palace. But those people had been vanished in the world or thrown directly by King of the Netherworld to the Ghost World where their souls were tortured cruelly. Both results told everyone that as long as one didn’t have the confidence to conquer the King, he had better not try to break into the Palace.

However, it was rarely known by people that the forty-ninth floor of the library actually moved with King of the Netherworld like the Desire Sea.

What was more, one could only enter each floor by the transmission portal which had been set by the King himself. Therefore, those that wanted to destroy the portal on purpose might have to consider twice.

“You cannot accomplish your cultivation in one action. First, you have to learn about the basic knowledge of the cultivation. Here are some books for you. If there is anything you don’t understand, you can come to ask me. Do you understand?” The King’s soft and melodious voice sounded in the library.

As the King spread his hands, with a slight fluctuation, there were five middle-thick books appearing on his palms. Then he handed those books to Feng Xi.

Feng Xi stared at those books and let out a sigh of relief. He had thought that his leader wanted him to read all the books in the library. If that was the case, he might only finish reading less than one tenth of all the books in the library before he died.

He used to be a scholar indeed, but that was only his cover. He didn’t like to read at all and could only recite few poems.

Luckily for him, there were only five books for him to read. He took the books immediately, in case his leader would regret and give him more books. In the meantime, Feng Xi patted on his chest and promised, “My leader, you can count on me. I’ll read every word in the books. I won’t disappoint you!”

“Stay here and read the books today. Uncle White will be staying outside. If you need anything, just tell him.”

“Fine!”

Hearing Uncle White’s name, Feng Xi lowered his cute hairy head right away. The last person he wanted to see was Uncle White, the old man in white.

That old man was so serious. He had no expression on his face every time Feng Xi met him, which made Feng Xi wonder if the old man suffered from facial paralysis. Feng Xi doubted if the old man was targeting him or born with a poker face. Moreover, Uncle White did things too scrupulously and always followed the rules strictly, which extremely restricted Feng Xi’s freedom.

However, Feng Xi’s leader now ordered the old man to guard the gate. That truly was bad news for Feng Xi. Was it possible that his leader already discovered his true face and sent Uncle White to keep watch on him? However, Feng Xi denied that assumption right away. He considered himself very good at hiding himself.

Feng Xi was self-conceited and ignored a very important thing.

When even Uncle White was able to see him through, King of the Netherworld, the most powerful king in the Three Worlds was definitely able to gain an insight of his mind. The first time they met each other, the King already knew exactly what kind of person Feng Xi was, but only turned a blind eye to the boy’s misconducts.

“My leader, take care!” No matter what Feng Xi was thinking now, he still didn’t dare to neglect his leader. He showed a sweet smile and waved his hand to the King’s back. When the King’s figure disappeared by the gate, Feng Xi jumped up happily right away.

He had never seen such a splendid and magnificent library. Since his leader told him that there were one million books on each floor, then there must be more than a hundred bookshelves. Feng Xi decided to take a tour and see what kinds of books there were.

As for the five books which the king had given to him, he had already thrown… eh, thrown them away.

However, little did he know that it was actually a very difficult thing to tour this place.

Feng Xi found this journey in the library such a torment to him. Where had his leader found all those books anyway? Even on the first floor, there must be more than a thousand bookshelves, each of which was two meters high and wide. As a result, when he finished his tour and went back to where he started, he was already tired out.

While he was lying on the ground, he deeply felt that he hadn’t been touring the library. Instead, the library was touring him.

Only then did he resign himself to his fate and pick up one of the five books which had been given by his leader. Then he started to browse.

Suddenly, the book in his hand began to jump as if it were alive. As it jumped to the ground from his hand, the cover of the book began to wriggle all of a sudden. The next second, a small golden person jumped out from the cover.

Feng Xi freaked out and only stared at the small person in a daze.

The small person had a bulging face, which made him look like an infant but only a dozen of times smaller. He floated in the air while fluttering happily the golden wings behind his back. Feng Xi could even hear the sound of him fluttering his wings.

“You finally stop making a fool of yourself.” The small person looked at Feng Xi with his chin up like an elder.

“…” Feng Xi couldn’t utter a word.

“Don’t you understand my words? You are so stupid! It’s the first time I ever saw someone running around the bookshelves like a moron! You even got lost. It took you an hour to get back! How stupid!”

The small person did talk harshly.

“… What are you?” Feng Xi hesitated and could only ask that.

“Listen, I am the one and only God of Books who governs trillions of books in the Three Worlds. The book under my body now is actually my real body. This book is also unique in this world. As long as this book exists, I can be wherever the books are. How does that sound? Brilliant, right? So, if you want me to help you, you’d better start to fawn on me now!” The small person raised his chin while saying that complacently. It was obvious that he truly was proud of his identity. However…

“Bam!”

With the loud sound, someone stepped on the book, as well as the small person, without any hesitation…
