30. The King’s Thought

Translator: Ning LL

Feng Xi swaggered out of the library under the gaze of Uncle White. This probably was the proudest moment of him ever since he was reborn. While looking at the poker face of Uncle White, Feng Xi felt he had already saw this old man going mad inwardly. Thinking of that, Feng Xi couldn’t help but give a loud laugh. As he reached   the central Quiet Stage Palace where King of the Netherworld lived, he still didn’t stop laughing.

“Why are you so happy?” King of the Netherworld moved his eyes from the papers to the boy.

“Something good makes me happy!” Feng Xi jumped and ran toward King of the Netherworld. As he thought of the poker face of Uncle White, he couldn’t help tittering again.

The King gazed at the boy quietly.

This boy had experienced hardship but still didn’t understand the pain in this world. It was very easy for a person like him to die an unnatural death in a world where the weak were the prey of the strong, but the King would try his best to prevent the boy from being harmed since the way of Heaven had sent the boy to him.

“What makes you so joyful?” The King asked again.

“Guess, my leader.” Feng Xi didn’t answer straightly and only stuck his tongue out naughtily.

“Is it about Uncle White?” The King was intelligent enough to guess everything out as he closed his papers. However, that had nothing to do with his Spiritual Power, and it was just his simple deduction.

Feng Xi who wasn’t aware of that jumped to the King in surprise and asked, “How did you know that?”

“You tend to get defensive when you looking at Uncle White. Do you not like him?” King of the Netherworld wore a tender look in his eyes. He seemed to be thinking of the boy’s frequent angry gaze at Uncle White.

“Yes, I like him!” Hearing the King pointing out the truth, Feng Xi refused to admit it right away. However, if his eyes weren’t rolling around all the time, he would sound more convincing.

“Are you sure?” King of the Netherworld put down his papers and said that in a vaguely teasing tone.

Feng Xi didn’t sense the teasing tone, nor did the maids in the palace. After all, the King was always unfathomable and no one would be able to see through his mind.

“All right, all right, I can’t say I do not like him. It’s just that he always disciplines me. He forbids me to do everything I want to do and wears that cold look on his face all the time. I feel like this is getting personal!” Feng Xi pouted while thinking, ‘Uncle White, I wasn’t speaking ill of you. My leader was the one that asked me about it. I really wasn’t speaking ill of you.’

“Uncle White has followed me for tens of thousands of years, and he’s indifferent about everything. He never cares about anyone so much except for me. He just don’t want to see anything bad happen to you. It’s his way of caring about people. Don’t mind, Xi!” The King explained that.

“No way, that poker face…”

Feng Xi opened his mouth immediately. He couldn’t imagine that weird old man would care for others in such a weird way. It turned out this world truly was filled with all kinds of people and that Feng Xi was not experienced enough. He had been so complacent since he had traveled through the Green Feather Kingdom in his previous life. But now he only found himself ridiculous.

“Forget about him. You don’t come here only because of Uncle White, right? What else do you want to say?” King of the Netherworld interrupted Feng Xi’s thought. Hearing that, Feng Xi finally remembered that he had something important to tell his leader. However, being afraid that the maids would hear their conversation, Feng Xi bent over the colored crystal desk which was also the King’s working desk and said in a low voice,

“My leader, do you know about God of Books? He knows so many things! Can you give him to me? I promise you I won’t hurt him!”

At this moment, God of Books who was staying in the library suddenly sneezed. He was very sleepy right now, not knowing that his fate was completely changed at a place he didn’t know.

“Fine, he’ll follow you from now on!” The King only thought for a second and made the decision.

There was only one God of Books in the Three Worlds. The most precious thing about him was the huge amount of knowledge he knew. Every god and demon wanted to have him. After all, having him was equal to having a library which contained all kinds of book since he knew everything recorded on every book.

However, no one knew that God of Books had actually been created by King of the Netherworld.

Since the King could create the God of Books, he could also seal the God of Books. The secrets of the ancient times and other untold stories were all sealed by the King and only the person with higher Spiritual Power than the King would be able to break that seal. As a result, the things which were sealed in the brain of God of Books would never be known by anyone including God of Books himself, except for King of the Netherworld.

The King had already thought of giving God of Books to the boy because he knew that the boy was not able to concentrate on reading. Otherwise the King wouldn’t have presented the true body of God of Books along with those books to the boy. With the explanation of God of Books, it would be easier for the boy to understand this world.

“Viva, viva, my leader!” Feng Xi was so excited that he climbed onto the crystal desk right away and jumped to the King.

In order not to let him fall, the King had to hold the boy in his arms while saying, “Don’t be so rash. You’ll get hurt if you fall.”

“It doesn’t matter. I’m not afraid of anything as long as you are here.” Feng Xi was so good at playing up to his leader now. Ever since he knew about the exalted identity of the King, he had made up his mind that he would cling up to his leader forever.

King of the Netherworld rubbed Feng Xi’s silky black hair gently without saying anything.

The maids in the hall watched what was happening now with astonished looks. They had served the King for thousands of years, but they had never seen the King show such a gentle look on his face. They had heard of that look before but never witnessed it. Now, they only felt astounded!

“Ah… What is this?” Feng Xi’s surprised voice broke the tranquility.

The King opened his eyes and saw the boy picking up the booklet on the crystal desk. Technically, that was an invitation to a magnificent meeting of the Three Worlds which was held once in one thousand years…
