35. Punishment from the Way of Heaven

Translator: Ning LL

Feng Xi started to wonder if he really looked like a bumpkin.

The first time he came out, he had been beaten by a girl named Dongfang Ling’er and disdained by everyone. The second time he came out, the people he met were even more straightforward. They did not even look at him and only asked him to get out of the way. They all looked very decent and honourable, but the words that came out from their mouths were so rude.

Feng Xi was rather depressed and only wanted to cry out, ‘I don’t look like a bumpkin! I am very good-looking, all right? You guys don’t have any taste at all. Fine, even if I have an ordinary face, the clothes I am wearing now was given to me by my leader! How’s it possible for such a powerful man like my leader to give me shabby clothes!”

Feng Xi felt angry, then worried and then indignant. One of the passengers that saw him being like this stepped forward to persuade him,

“Buddy, stop being angry. It’s not worth bothering for this. Besides, even if you want to argue for yourself, you might have to consider your own identity first. The man’s father is one of the Four Dukes of the Netherworld. If you offend him, you will not able to stay in the Netherworld anymore.”

Feng Xi who was trying to comfort himself got dazed after hearing another person talking to him. Then he asked, “The Four Dukes?”

“Don’t tell me you don’t know who the Four Dukes are, buddy.”

Seeing the confused look on Feng Xi’s face, the passenger shouted loudly right away. After all, the Four Dukes of the Netherworld were widely known even in the God and Demon Kingdom. Why did a boy who lived in the Netherworld not know about them?

“I…” Feng Xi wanted to say that he really didn’t know those dukes. However, seeing the exaggerated smile on the passenger’s face, Feng Xi got very uncomfortable even though he knew that passenger wasn’t mocking at him. Then he, chin up and chest out, said, “Of course I know who they are. Everyone knows who the Four Dukes are!”

Feng Xi was only puffing himself up at his own cost right now!

The passenger got dazed for a second and then said with a smile, “All right, all right, I know you must know about them. Such being the case, you shouldn’t be bothered anymore. They are not the ones you can mess up with.”

With these words, the passenger left. He had also registered for the qualification trial of the guards of the Rest Night City. The number of the candidates was limited, so he needed to get there in time in case he wasn’t able to register!

After that man had left, Feng Xi ran to a corner which no one noticed immediately and said, “Nerd, come out now!”

The small person showed up with golden light all over his body right away. However, with his face slightly twisted and his mouth unnoticeably twitched, he said, “Young Master, my name is not nerd. I am God of Books, not an idiotic bookworm. You made a mistake.”

“It’s all the same to me. I used to be called a nerd in my previous life too. We are the same!” Feng Xi didn’t think calling the God of Books a nerd was a wrong thing, so he waved his hand to let the small person stop explaining.

“We are not the same! Obviously! In your previous life, you were a human and also a scholar. It’s OK for you to be called a nerd. But I am God of Books! You are disgracing my identity by calling me a nerd.” The small person murmured that discontentedly.

Feng Xi directly ignored him and said, “Tell me, who are the Four Dukes?”

“Young Master, haven’t you just told that guy you know who the Four Dukes are? Did you lie to him?” The small person glowered at Feng Xi with disbelief. He heard the conversation between Feng Xi and that passenger clearly.

Feng Xi couldn’t help rolling his eyes when saying, “When have you ever heard that I knew about those dukes over the last year? Every day I either absorbed the Spiritual Energy or sat in meditation. Those two things already worn me out. How could I find chances to learn about those dukes?”

“Then why did you lie to that guy?” The small person still didn’t believe Feng Xi. Actually, there was a rule in the Three Worlds: the one that lied would be struck by lightning.

“Haven’t you seen his disdainful look toward me? If I haven’t lied to him for the moment, he might exaggerate about it loudly. By then everyone would judge me. How embarrassing! As my follower, you will also be embarrassed, am I right?” Feng Xi said that as a matter of course. However, that was only because he didn’t know about that rule in the Netherworld.

“Young Master, you can not swear so easily from now on. If you go back on your word, you’ll be punished by the way of Heaven. By then, even King of the Netherworld couldn’t save you. So, please do not swear so easily in the future.” The small person got cold sweats all over his body. Luckily, he found the boy’s lying problem early. Otherwise if anything bad happened to the boy, King of the Netherworld would definitely make God of Books return to his original form.

“Punishment?” Feng Xi didn’t entirely believe the small person. After all, nothing happened to him when he had just lied.

“That’s right, punishment. If you go back on your promise, you truly will receive punishment from the way of Heaven. That is a very serious thing. Please keep that in mind. Also, please don’t tell the King about what happened.” The small person was quite nervous about his mistake.

Luckily for him, Feng Xi didn’t care about it very much and only said, “I see.” Then he started to ask other things.

“Just tell me about the Four Dukes first!” It was the first time Feng Xi realized that his knowledge was negligible.

As the saying goes, “Knowing yourself as well as your enemy will bring you victory!”
