82. Doomed

Translator: Ning LL

The lofty Heaven Peak Palace was closely guarded as usual. The layers of barriers blocked out the people from elsewhere, and they could only respect and worship the Palace.

After the barrier rippled, there appeared a hole at the bottom. A sneaky figure glanced at his surroundings to make sure no one would find him. Then he ran inside gingerly with soft steps as if afraid that he would be found by someone else.

At the moment, it had already got dark. The stars shined brightly and the crescent moon was high in the sky. In the moonlight, the Heaven Peak Palace was as silent as usual, even a bit weirdly silent.

“Master, you’d better go ask for the King’s forgiveness, since you’ve come back so late.”

God of Books rubbed his arms which had goose bumps all over and said that, feeling very terrified.

He had already regretted having listened to his master. Only after they had played outside for more than an hour did he realize that it was already dark. Although he knew that he would be fine as long as his master was with him, he still couldn’t help but get a pale face.

However, it was already too late to regret!

“How stupid you are! Why did you suggest putting my head in a noose? My leader is perhaps in a fit of anger right now. I’ll be doomed if I go to him right now. If you want to go, just go there yourself, don’t bring me with you!” Feng Xi gripped the wall while saying that in a low voice with his black eyes rolling. After that, he looked around several times as if he had prepared to hide himself anytime when someone else showed up.

“But, if you do not turn yourself in now, you’ll end up more miserable if the King comes to you.” God of Books didn’t trust a single word of the boy and said that with his teeth trembling.

He envied God of Bad Luck and Hairless Chicken so much, because they had already hidden in the corner of the boy’s body as they saw the situation going south. God of Books wanted to do the same thing, but it would only bring him harsher punishments. After all, he had been entrusted with the important job of teaching his master.

“It’s not like I have been injured or anything. I only came back around an hour later, what’s to be afraid of?”

Feng Xi pouted and said that. He really looked down upon the anxious and terrified God of Books.

“Master, if you are not afraid, why can’t you just turn yourself in? The only reason you came back covertly is that you are scared that His Majesty would punish you. He would only ground you for a few days if you come to him right now. However, if you still try to avoid him, you’ll only be punished more fiercely.” God of Books rolled his eyes. Then he suddenly realized that he had rolled his eyes more frequently these days.

God of Books had already sensed that his master had been complaining about him.

However, he was not his master who could be forgiven by the King so easily. Therefore, God of Books had to be careful of everything. He wished that he could carry his master to the King and make a humble apology. However, his identity didn’t allow him to do so and he was not able to defeat Feng Xi now anyway.

Hearing the words of God of Books, Feng Xi showed a depressed look in his eyes at once. He dared not enter the Palace through the front gate only because he was afraid that he would be grounded. ‘You think I want to sneak into the Palace?! Come on!’

God of Books pretended not to have seen the look on Feng Xi’s face. If it was not because he still needed Feng Xi’s help later, he really wanted to say, ‘You have only yourself to blame!’

Feng Xi humphed. Thinking of the words of God of Books, he couldn’t help but kick his leg forward. As a result… “Ouch! It hurts!”

God of Books was startled by Feng Xi’s screaming. As he turned around, he saw his master jumping on the ground with his hand grabbing his foot which seemed injured. Judging from the wrinkled face of Feng Xi, God of Books assumed that this boy wasn’t pretending right now. It seemed that Feng Xi really hurt badly. However, God of Books didn’t understand how the boy in the God King realm had been hurt by a pillar.

As God of Books wanted to go over to check Feng Xi’s condition, he saw a moon-colored robe dragging along the ground. In the moonlight, he also noticed part of the delicate golden pattern embroidered on the robe as well as the indistinct silver threads carved on the pattern. The threads kept forming into different shapes of totems or symbols irregularly as if they were alive. Seeing that, God of Books was even more perturbed.

Suddenly, he came back to his sense and realized what was going on right now.

Then, God of Books looked up in a rigid movement.

He saw a tall and handsome figure. That was the graceful King of the Netherworld standing there upright as if he was the only deity in this world. With an indifferent look on the King’s face, he glimpsed at God of Books. Then the latter fell from the air straightly with a loud ‘Ding’ sounding in his head while crying out, “Your Majesty?!”

Feng Xi stopped moaning instantly. Then, he raised his head and saw the man in front of him in a daze, forgetting the pain on his foot already. After a long while, he waved his hand to the King awkwardly and said,

“My leader, why are you here?”
