The Dragon King Chronicles: Mind, Wind, Water

Chapter 8 - Water: The Son Of Heaven Awakens

I wasn't born in the normal sense of the word, at least not by a human. New life or not, the day of my birth really s.u.c.k.e.d. It was cold, and it raining both snow, hail and water at the same time. The winds were fierce so much so that even the strongest of trees bent to their fierceness. Many years down the line, my mother kept telling this story to as many people that would have loved to listen, after all its not everyday a woman is bestowed a child by the heavens themselves, right in the middle of a tribulation.

The details of that day are a little obscure to me, I only had a faint awareness of what happened that day, but given that most of my childhood before the age of five was one big blur, I would say that's pretty understandable, I was a baby after all. My mother, my reincarnated mother was creating a scrying martial technique, she had found vestiges of an ancient skill that helped a fighter predict the next move of his or her opponent. She was going to perfect it to gain the ability to look into the future, and also into the past. She succeeded, maybe a little too much.

If my mom would have told people that she was i.m.p.r.e.g.n.a.t.ed by tribulation lightening, none of them would have believed her. But at that moment she had more than a thousand onlookers who had come see the creation of a skill capable of looking into the future and into the past. No one knows how it worked, even I had no idea behind the mechanics of my birth. I certainly wasn't Jesus Christ, heck this was even weirder to understand than the birth of Christianity's savior.

But one second my mom was there, employing a skill that gave her the powers of an oracle, an ability she could trigger on a whim without any fallback on herself.

The heavens hated that, so obviously they tried to kill her with really thick and intense thunder bolts, so at least that's what was supposed to happen. The next thing she knew, she was pregnant, and a few seconds later she was in labor, and then almost an hour, I was born.

On that day the Supreme Ark Divine World had to welcome its greatest hero, or maybe its greatest villain, depending on who you ask. From that hence forth, my mother, Ye Ling Xia was known as the Blessed princess. After all, the tribulation of the heavens that's supposed to take the life of all who went against it didn't punished her. When it was supposed to punish her for the creation of a skill that defied the natural order of things, it hesitated. And then it blessed her; blessed her with a son.

..................................................................

I had a rather easy going life growing up, my mother was feared and highly respected within the Sky monarch empire. She was a grand elder, and a woman of great power and prestige within the Dragon mountain Dao sect. a sect that was amongst one of the three most powerful sect within the empire, a subsidiary to a larger sect that was called the divine Dao sect.

She raised me a whole lot better this time around, struggling to instill values in me that any good child would have. But obviously I was not like most children, even though I wasn't really aware of who I was, and the destiny that laid in front of me; I never hung around with kids my age. If the stories were to be believed, I was rather aloof and arrogant, I couldn't bring myself to hang around with kids around my age group, for me to talk to you, you had to at least be five to ten years older than me, and even then that was just to talk. We weren't friends.

But like I said I had a comfortable life. I had maids that looked after, numerous scholars who taught me about the world around me, and many fathers who kept wanting to betrothed their daughters to me, only for either me or my mother to reject them. I was a son of heaven, intelligent, smart and talented. But I was also feared, and it wasn't until I hit five that I knew just how much that fear ran deep, and just what sort of lengths a human being could go when they were afraid.

Dragon mountain Dao sect had a tradition of always testing a child for their talent in cultivation once they reach their fifth birthday. And with the test came the official start of a child's journey to immortality by cultivating the world energy of qi. Cultivation was divided into seven major realms before immortality, and that was the body refining realm, the channel opening realm, the open sea realm, the pillar building realm, the palace formation, the world formation realm, the open world core realm.

Either way that's the basic gist of cultivation, of course there were other methods to cultivate, such as the cultivation of the soul, or the body, or even the spirit. But those were things that we could all bother about in the future, my story truly begins on my fifth birthday, because that was the day I finally and truly became reincarnated into this world.

The Dragon mountain Dao sect was located at the southwestern part of the Sky monarch empire. The sect itself was built around a mountain range that twisted itself into an S form, but to the primitive minds of all these people, that's form was the shape of a dragon. From the tail to the tip, it was divided into the interim disciples hall, the outer disciples hall, the inner disciples hall, the core disciples hall, and the masters hall, where all of the sect leadership lived. This was where I grew up, and it wasn't until I was five that I finally got the chance to leave this area.

On the day of my birthday, my mom bathed me, and clothed me in some really cool red robes. I hated red, it kind of looked as if I was getting married, but I knew she was just a bit to excited. We left the master's hall, and spent over forty minutes traveling by air with the wind rushing past us with intense speeds. I don't know how fast my mother was moving, but I knew it was comparable to the full speed of a jet, which spoke volumes of how large the dragon mountain was itself.

Our destination today was a special area Within the sect, every official tests for disciples were always carried out in this area, and today the eight thousand, seven hundred and 10 disciples of the sect, excluding their numerous servants and the workers within the sect itself, where here to watch this ceremony. I might have been different, a lot more aware than most children, but I didn't know who I was at that time, so the sheer amount of people around was a little unsettling. But I had my mother around, and it was just as easy for me to draw strength from her as it was for me to breathe.

"my fellow members of dragon mountain sect! Thank you all for gracing me and my son with your presence on this auspicious day. It is custom that when a child reaches their fifth birthday, they're tested for their talents in cultivation, so that we as their parents would be able to better provide training, and prepare our children for the harshness of this world. And now my son, this special gift from the heavens itself, will finally begin his journey. Ye Chen walk forward."

I didn't want to let go of my mother's hand, there were just too many people looking at me, and for the first time since I was reborn, I felt shy. Conscious of myself in ways I've never experienced. I guess you could say at that point I truly became and acted like a child. But none the less I followed my mothers instructions and walked onto a circular disk located on top of a battling platform.

The moment I stepped onto that disk, it immediately lit up with multiple lights, as numerous light balls of different colors floated in the air above me. I was awed by them, for most of my five years, I've not had my attention greatly piqued by anything. I was an a.d.u.l.t in a child's body, but I didn't know that, i just felt disinterested in the things that any other normal child would be attracted too. But now under the glow of all these balls of light, I felt myself become enthralled, lost in their colorful splendor, as some of the balls began to congregate to make what seems like a root.

The balls of light coming together where of just two distinct colors, but they were not in equal ratio. The two colors were blue and yellowish brown, the root that was formed, was a crystalline blue, really bright and almost tangible. The yellowish brown color was not as much, but it flickered and wrapped itself around the crystalline blue root, creating quite a pleasing combination.

Then there was a loud boom as the heavens themselves seemed to shake, thunder and lightening crackled as a previously clear sky became overcast with thick dark clouds. The root above my head began to pulse, and the moment it released the first pulse, thunder and lightening struck the area around me, shocking everyone and keeping them far away from me.

I was scared by the loud noises and the sudden turn of events, but right then and there, I somehow felt at home under the ominous glance of the storm clouds above me. The root pulsed the second time, and so too did the thunder boom and the lightening strike. And then again and again until it reached the ninth time. At the ninth pulse the whole world seemed to have gone quiet, and the eyes of everyone around was as wide open as tea cups. Then I heard one of the elders say.

"Grade Nine Immortal spirit root of the water and wood element, h…..how?....is he a monster?"

As if to agree to his observation, the root pulsed for the tenth time and underwent a fundamental change, it changed from a blue root, to an actual body, and the yellowish brown vines around the root turned into veins on sapphire humanoid body that was now floating above my head.

The storm clouds rumbled and flashed, obviously this tenth and final strike was going to be nothing like the last. Many of the elders quickly ushered the weaker the disciples back as they also kept a safe distance. Some of them sat down in a meditating position as they gained enlightenment from the current stream of events and even advance in cultivation from the sheer amount of Qi essence this test has provoked. And then the thundered roared, and the lightening struck.

*BRRRAAAAMRAAAMMM!! BOOOOOM!*

A thick purple bolt of lightening fell on me, pushing me to the ground and actually depositing something in my hand. My mother let out a scream of horror as she couldn't see me under the assault of thousands of volts of electric currents. Until suddenly it just went away, and o was left there, unharmed, my red clothes thankfully burnt away, a blue long sword in my hands and the eyes of everyone almost popping out of their skulls.

The sapphire humanoid above my head faded away, and the round disk on was standing on immediately turned to dust. The same man who had called me a monster spoke up at that moment and said with his voice shaking at every word.

"Grade ten....water and woo….woo….wood god celestial Physique....he's no monster....he's a god. Truly a son of the heavens."

And then everyone of them broke into a loud chatter, with quite a few of them looking pointedly at the elegant blue sword in my hands. On the other hand I was experiencing something profound. For the first time since I was born, my mind was fully clear, and I was aware of who I was, and what I was doing here. Of who I'm supposed to be, and the moment that realization came, I heard a voice within my mind.
