Chapter 58: A Connection to the Lost

[Name: Heron]

[Species: Dragon]

[Specification: Dragon Morpher]

[Rank: D+]

These are the details which Zeke saw as he watched the fight from a distance. What bothered him more is how small the opponent is and, how calm its movements seem to ne. It's as if the creature is just toying with the elves.

"This is probably going to be a lot trickier than fighting the [Carnivorous Turtle]." Zeke thought to himself as he approached. He brought out his twin pistols which he now calls [Death's Symphony].

The name came from that instance when he used it against the first boss. The different sounds that came as he pulled the trigger actually felt like a melody is being formed.

Going back to the situation at hand, Zeke didn't like everything that is currently happening. Unlike the turtle and its spawns which he has able to observe from a distance, this new enemy is faster. Adding to this is the fact that it already saw the elves. So, even if escaping may be possible, it may put them in danger. Thus, Zeke decided to just do what he can with the elves.

"Did you not understand a single instruction I've said?' Zeke told the group as he forced the enemy to back away. The speed of his bullets are fast enough to catch up to the monster. And so, it measures its steps, waiting for a chance to attack.

"It's all my fault." Sylph replied, feeling apologetic for the current state of things.

"There's no time to talk about strategies, just follow my lead and do what you can to support." Zeke said, continuing his attack.

The opponent then fired a slash which Zeke blocked by summoning a part of Samael. This is another trick he is practicing. A move which creates parts of his conjures without summoning the whole conjures. This way, he has better control of the movements. And at the same time, there would be no delay with his orders and their execution.

What Zeke didn't expect however is the speed of the dragon which is a bit faster than his. Right after the slash and, as soon as the conjured Samael disappeared, the monster was already in front of Zeke. Allesiah was able to respond to this and created multiple [Darkness Spheres] which chased down the enemy.

"I can't match the speed but, those things will keep homing until they hit their target." Allesiah said through the [Voice Chat].

"Nice work." Zeke replied.

Zeke can already see the elves creating a formation. Sebastian covered them closely while, the three female elves did their best to try and hit the opponent. At every opening, Harun thrusted her spear. However, the dragon would just pivot its body, or picot it to another direction. At other moments, it would suddenly stop from the movement it is making. The dodges all seemed unreal, making Zeke more worried.

Sylph also tried to help using a rain of arrows. She gave a signal to Zeke who jumped back as soon as the spell was cast.

"That should do some damage." Zeke thought to himself, looking at the relentless volley. But then, the dragon raised its hand and, flames came up, burning the spell itself.

"Can someone explain to me what the hell that was?" Zeke said over the communication channel. He followed this though with [Quick Step], summoning both Erio and Lupus as they continued fighting the monster.

"I'm not sure. I have never heard of a spell like that before. It must be ancient magic, one that has been forgotten through the ages." Allesiah replied.

As soon as the magic circle burned, their strange enemy came forward again. Zeke tried hitting his opponent but, the monster simply dodged every bullet. The monster followed with a lightning strike to the ground, forcing Zeke's party to back away. With the distance created, the dragon pointed its sword on the ground and, mist suddenly surrounded the area.

"This doesn't look good." Zeke thought to himself.

The mist covered the whole area, making it difficult for Zeke to see past the mist. What worried him more is how his [Minimap] got disrupted.

"Guys can you hear me?" Zeke said which did not receive any reply.

"It would be dangerous if I continued fighting you guys together. So I figured I should just split you up." The opponent came out of the mist but, this time, there are three of it appearing in front of Zeke. The monster then appeared and reappeared at various areas, preventing Zeke from making any attacks

With all the problems created by the mist, Zeke actually found something that benefited him. For Zeke, this is the first time he'll talk to a monster and, this actually picked his interest.

"So do we fight now or do you want to say something?" Zeke replied, knowing that there's nothing in his arsenal that could dispel the mist. If he panics and tries to rush off in killing the monster, then he might end up dead.

Hence, Zeke composed himself as he always does and, talked normally to the beast. This surprise the creature a bit, smiling as its multiple clones moved around Zeke.

"This is the first time I've ever laid eyes on a human after hundreds of years. That goddess has trapped me in this forest for so long that, I've actually lost count of the days." The monster said.

"Trapped? I thought that you guys are just spawned creatures from the summoning crystals?" Zeke replied, wondering about the words uttered by his opponent.

"Well yes, that is true. The goddess has defeated me a long time ago. However, she also trapped my spirit in this gem and, from time to time, would make games in hunting me down and killing me." The monster continued.

"So what now? Should I pity you and start a fight against an omnipotent being?" Zeke replied, knowing that this is not an option. He also didn't take this idea seriously.

The dragon laughed at his remark, thinking how cold and composed the human is. In fact, it even reminded him of an old ally… one which the dragon used to have in the Forgotten City. But that's part of history, something burnt, with all the four continents choosing to forget the place and all that transpired there.

"I thought that you'd immediately attack me. What made you halt?" The dragon continued. As Zeke stalled for time, the dragon is actually doing the same. Preparing a leverage in this barttle.

"Well, that's really difficult you see." Zeke replied, seeing his enemy vanish into the mist and reappear at random locations. All without making a single sound.

"I have the same question to you. Why aren't you finishing me off?" Zeke replied.

"Don't take me for a fool. I may not be as strong as I was in my prime but, I have mastered countless battles during my lifetime. Yours however is the first I have seen and, with the things you've shown, I'm guessing that there's something up your sleeve once I strike." The dragon replied.

"So we're both stuck huh?' Zeke answered, not knowing how to deal with the situation. There's no [Minimap], no [Voice Chat]. He doesn't even know if he is still in the same place or if the spell is actually a hallucination. He has no way to confirm as he cannot sense pain and, even if he could, the spell might include the registering of senses.

Zeke is not empty handed however. There is a trump card he is hiding, one that is supposed to appear any minute now.

"There's a bunch of things that you said to me. I don't even understand why you'll tell it to random person. How are you even sure that I'll keep my mouth shut?"

"You don't need to. Because there are only two outcomes to this encounter. One is that I kill you. The second is that you kill me and tell my tale. However, the goddess may not like how you spread the information of how: She dragged a soul into a summoning crystal and ruthlessly tortured it for hundreds of years." The dragon said, stepping in the air then vanishing again.

"But the thing is, you want to escape right?" Zeke answered.

"Yes. But that doesn't matter." The dragons said, finally having a fixed image in front of Zeke.

"I've finally regained my full strength in this form. Play time is over mortal, you will now witness the might of a pureblood dragon."

At this, the mist circled round them. Zeke tried to fire at the monster as this happened but it is no use. The mist seems to suck his bullets, leaving the enemy undamaged. Then, came a notification window which irritated Zeke further.

[Temporary Invulnerability: Please wait for the transformation to finish.]

"Oh come on! Why do I need to get stuck with this cliché option of waiting for the enemy to finish getting powerful?" Zeke said out loud, summoning all his conjures and trying to destroy the dragon in the mist. All of these creatures got swallowed in and, nothing ever came out.

As the mist thinned out however, his [Minimap] and [Voice Chat] also came back. Thus, he immediately used it to update on the current situation of his allies.

"How are you guys? Are any of you hurt?" He said over the communication channel.

"We're all fine. We got stuck in the mist but nothing came to attack us." Allesiah replied.

"Okay, I'll go to your position so just wait there." Zeke said and, as soon as he did, the dragon screamed…getting bigger and bigger, towering higher than the size of the [Carnivorous Turtle].

Attacks soon came but, Zeke blocked these using his conjures. The slashes are almost transparent, making it difficult for him to try and dodge. Thus, he relied on his conjures to take the blows for him. Then, as he moved through the continually thinning mist, he finally saw the group – with Harun waving her spear at him.

"Should we leave?" Sebastian said as soon as Zeke was within hearing range.

"We should but there's a problem with the scrolls. It's not allowing us to escape." Zeke replied, actually trying the idea earlier on.

"So what do we do? I think that thing is a lot bigger than what we can chew." Harun replied and, at this, Zeke smiled again feeling another presence nearby.

"Don't worry. I think we've got thigs covered." As soon as he said this, the dragon finished its transformation. Then, without any second lost, it fired a beam toward the group. They all closed their eyes except for Zeke who stood up to face the attack because, someone came to their rescue.

"Prism Barrier" The attack created multiple mirrors. This diverted the angle of the beam making it bounce all around the area until it finally shot up to the sky.

The monster didn't stop here and flew up to get away from any melee attacks. However, a small figure followed the dragon, flying around as the dragon tried to finish it off.

"You can open your eyes now." Zeke said to the group which still waited for the attack that would never come.

"What happened?" Sebastian sad.

"She's finally awake." Zeke replied, looking at the sky where the fight continued.

"Is that?" Allesiah began.

"Yeah. It's Sylvia."
