Chapter 82: Zeke and The Chimeras

One minute.

That is how long a summoned [Chimera's] life is supposed to be worth. This is the exact duration used up by these creatures which summoned at both Allesiah and Sylph's location. However, there is one unique factor connected to the duration once a [Chimera] has been successfully created.

If there are excess materials, corpses fitting the initial requirement, lying around then these can be used as extenders. The duration of a [Summoned Chimera's] existence gets prolonged, using up the materials found near them.

And, unlike the startup requirement, the maintaining amount of sacrifices is considerably lower. Hence, with number of deaths Zeke has already caused, the [Chimeras] have 30 minutes at best in order to fight with the human.

This is the kind of opponent Zeke is now matched against. Monsters of ancient strength that have been wiped off for fear of their further evolution. Of course, the duration will still increase if Zeke kills off more soldiers. He can't avoid doing this after all as they might surround him. But Zeke is yet to learn all these as the [Chimeras] have just been summoned.

"What the hell is it this time?" Zeke thought to himself as he saw two large red dots on the minimap. These ones are larger than what his earlier opponent created.

Together with the summoning of these creatures is a quest that came from the system. This is followed by another quest related to what happened to their transportation.

[Sub Quest: Eliminate the Chimeras]

[Reward: Doctor Regulus' Notes]

[Information: Summoned Chimeras are creatures which resulted from the research of doctor Regulus. Information on the method of their creation have been thought to be destroyed but, there seem to be data that was successfully stored somewhere.]

[Information on the Reward: Doctor Regulus' notes contains information on a bunch of summoning techniques for ancient creatures. With the world data, the Gamer's System can recreate the notes.]

"I'm guessing the ones coming right now are the [Chimeras]." Zeke thought to himself, watching the dots move towards him. He wanted to read the other quest but, the creatures are moving so fast that he decided to save that task for later.

Then, something weird happened, the dots disappeared from the minimap; as if their existence vanished. But Zeke's body soon learned that this is not the case.

The [Chimeras] both appeared in front of him. One aimed for Zeke's head while the other aimed for his heart. Under normal circumstances, Zeke would get hit by these but, he has the [Counter] ability. One which he invested some points on during his stay in Yaeger's realm. Because of this, his body automatically moved, blocking both attacks but still getting sent flying as, the monsters quickly followed up their initial attack. This time, [Counter] did not activate and so, Zeke found himself hitting a nearby wall.

"Okay, this is definitely some hack level monster." Zeke thought to himself, thanking his armor and his regenerative ability for healing him quickly.

Zeke continued, feeling his heart skip a beat as he viewed the creatures from a distance. They have a human figure but, every other part seems to have come from beasts and monsters. Scale covered wings, wolfish claws, serpent-like tails, and eyes that gleamed red. These are the only things which Zeke is able to observe as the creatures once again disappeared from sight. But this time, the human is ready.

"Shadow Dive" he said, transporting himself to the opposite direction of where he was a second ago. During this time, Zeke looked closely at his minimap and finally understood the whole situation.

Zeke saw two faint red lines on the map, so faint that one would not even think that they exist and, at the next second, these lines turned into solid red dots – appearing on the location where Zeke's initial location was. The wall came crashing down and, the monsters locked on to their target once again.

"That more or less explains what happened a moment ago." Zeke said with a smile on his face. With him understanding this much, Zeke used the skill again as soon as the monsters disappeared from the map.

"Shadow dive." Zeke repeated, this time choosing to at the gap between two [Poison Clouds]. With the [Chimeras'] innate tracking skills, they are able to sense Zeke without much trouble. Hence, they ran like rabid predators, suffering no damage from the [Poison Clouds] they passed through.

Zeke saw their movements on his minimap, still amazed at how fast these monsters are. If he will continue diving into nearby locations, he'll have no chance of beating the monsters. Hence, he made the winged monkeys fly at different locations, farther and higher from where he currently stood.

"I don't think even Erio stands a chance against these beasts." Zeke said, feeling the levels of the [Chimeras] to be even higher than those he fought in Yaeger's realm. What is even more troublesome is the fact that, he can't even use [Analyze] properly. The skill requires him to look at the targets and read the descriptions displayed. And, with enemies as fast and deadly as the ones he is facing, he doesn't have the luxury of time to actually do this. For the first time, Zeke has no choice but to fight his opponent head on without much information.

However, with his title being active, Zeke knew that there is still a high chance for him to win without putting his life on the line. The brain of Zeke went on overdrive, thinking on the fastest and most efficient route to take in this fight and, as he looked at the ground, the gamer smiled. The same kind of look he wears on his face when he's excited to use another idea in a fight.

"Shadow Dive." Zeke repeated jumping to one of the Flying Monkey's shadow. He began charging bullets in [Death's Symphony Mk. II] one by one. Currently, there are still 6 bullets loaded per gun and, charging them takes quite a few minutes to accomplish.

"It doesn't matter how fast you guys are, you won't be able to finish me off if you can't catch me." Zeke thought to himself. With the area being populated by enemies and, no hostages to take against him, Zeke can continue running away without much consequence.

One by one, Zeke charged his bullets while running from the enemies. Along the way, Zeke also intentionally walked towards the direction of the enemies, thinking that the [Chimeras] would not view the soldiers as allies. And he is right on the money. They slashed and ripped everything on their path, whatever it is that stood in the way before they could reach their target.

"COME ON IS THAT ALL YOU GOT!" Zeke shouted, successfully provoking the Chimeras which made a howl-like sound. They then began floating in mid air and, Zeke could feel it. The monsters are about to launch an attack which is completely different from the first one.

"Not good." Zeke thought to himself as, even he could feel the immense mana being gathered by the creatures. He used [Shadow Dive] again and, in the nick of time as he watched a whole line of the city getting burnt by the monsters. The attack didn't even end there. As soon as they felt where Zeke transported to, they turned their heads and, along with this is the attack that still went on.

"That's illegal! How the hell can they move a friggin beam laser weapon!" Zeke said out loud, thinking of all the games where beams would disappear once fired at a specific angle.

The [Chimeras'] attack didn't last long, They stopped the breath attack and went back down to the ground. Sensing that their target is still alive, they screamed in irritation, disappearing once again from the map and, towards their target.

This time, 10 bullets in total have already been charged. Just a bit more and Zeke would be able to execute his plan. Zeke used [Shadow Dive] in order to escape. But circumstances have changed. The [Chimeras] have caught on to him somehow and, once again tried hitting his vital spots.

Zeke dodged but, felt shivers run down his spine. Zeke saw that there is only one [Chimera] on the ground.

"Where is the other o---" Zeke instinctively used his [Shadow Dive] to escape and, he was right to do so. In the location he was in earlier, a beam of flames have hit the ground, turning the whole field into a seeming pool of hot magma.

As mentioned, [Chimeras] have been feared because of their ability to adapt quickly. This adaptation comes in the form of evolutions and mutations. Their parts would upgrade depending on their enemy, finding the best combination of attributes in order to finish off their enemies. If they only existed for a single minute, Zeke would not have any problems. But, with the thirty-minute duration, the [Chimeras] have begun evolving at a rapid rate especially because of the tricky opponent they are facing.

Making things even more difficult is the increasing number of dead soldiers. This continued feeding the [Chimeras] with more life force. With all things considered, Zeke couldn't adapt as quickly to the ever-changing fight style of the Chimeras – with the difficulty rising rapidly.

But the fight may not even reach that long. Zeke has finally finished charging the last two bullets and, with this, the confident smile on his face came back. Taking out all the bullets from his guns. He also made sure that there are Winged Monkeys directly above him, on a height that far surpasses the [Chimeras'] flying range.

With the enemies finally disappearing from the map once again, Zeke threw the charged bullets into the air and, just like the [Chimeras], Zeke vanished.
