Chapter 17 - 33: Upgrade

Chapter 33: Upgrade

Notification: You have survived awakening Nitryon the Thrice Tainted. As the first to complete this you gain 1 – Vial of Abyssal Ichor (Mythic) and 1 stat point.

Notification: You have gained a Vial of Abyssal Ichor, this darkly turning liquid may be ingested for an ??? cosmetic effect. Note: Effect is not instant, please remain seated while changes are occurring.

Notification: You have unlocked 2 parts of the power of the Black Seraph. Unlock two more powers to gain "Seraph Wings".

Seraph read the prompts and dismissed them. He was still far away from ever getting his wings back, and the Abyssal Ichor was an unknown variable that he was heavily suspicious of, even though it hard promise. Mythic was a grade above legendary, this could provide him with the sort of power boost he needed to survive on this new floor, or back in Hometown with its layers of danger.

"Status." Said Seraph as he summoned his status screen, seeing that his fight with the Skeletons and Skeletal Lord had given him a level up and he applied both points to luck to help with his new ability, if he was to ever get back to Hometown, he thought he may need it. The Skeletal Lord had given him 850 experience points, but the Skeletons had given him only roughly 20 experience each. He could assume from the data that bosses and sub bosses would be where most of the experience was to be found, he just didn't yet know how the experience would be shared.

After dismissing his status screen, Seraph and Calibur, formally Paul, spent several hours out there on the sand between the wooden pier and the Abyssal Elemental that haunted the pier waiting for the dawn. Down the road on the path leading away from the pier, Seraph could see the silhouette of a city, and knew that was to be the goal, That's where he would find the Demon Lord Beelzebub, he was almost out of time to establish himself for the influx of humanity, he had just two days.

Neither of them was able to go back to Hometown, the magic Seraph had known to teleport back wasn't working. He was either sealed in, or the spell had changed. Considering his surroundings, Seraph attributed it to the later.

With the coming dawn, their was a chance that the Gate back to hometown would be open, but neither Seraph or Calibur trusted in such a plan. Though the Abyssal Elemental had reverted back to its mimicry of water, neither trusted the lull in activity enough to even attempt to go back.

"Listen Seraph, I got to tell you, it's been pretty rough just waiting you over there. I know we had to be here anyways until your legs heal up, but this seems slower then it needs to be it, and if I'm going to be stuck here with you, how about telling me what I need to know in order to help both of us survive. Understand I'm not an idiot, this level system is easy enough to understand, and I'm assuming through abilities, better gear, experience, and training I can also get stronger. I need you to tell me about the things that aren't as obvious. "

Seraph thought about it for a second, Calibur was correct, the healing process was taking much longer than it should have. Seraph knew it was working, but also know it wasn't working as fast as it should have. They would need to wait some more and if they were going to be waiting, it was time to push his luck.

"Here goes nothing." Thought Seraph as he pulled the Vial of Abyssal Ichor from his spacial pocket and drank it.

After he had drank the whole thing, he felt an intense urge to vomit as bile piled up on his month. Forcing him to steady himself and wait for the nausea to pass.

Seraph pulled himself up a bit and turned to look directly at Calibur. "What you need to know most of all is that I need you to stay alive if I'm going to be successful, I need you to get on my level."

Calibur furrowed his brows in irritation of the comment Seraph had just made. "Alright Seraph, since your such a hotshot, tell me why I had to pull you off the pier earlier. Tell me please, why I have these scars on my face? Tell me how I carried you kicking in screaming out of the body of that thing, tell me what's this level I need to get to to be on the same level of someone who breaks their legs every time they run. What is your level?"

Seraph had to look away, his father's words shamed him, the man was right, he had needed to be saved, he who had once easily absorbed and reflected attack after attack with his Wings of Blacksteel. Instead of answering, Seraph looked over to the city, though hours had passed it was the same grey gloom it had been earlier no lighter and no darker.

"You know, that silence is telling me more than you know. You aren't used to be being like this are you? Just how strong were you? That strength has become a liability because you're still acting like you've got that power at your fingerprints, and you don't. "Calibur pressed the issue. "Hiding things that are going on with you can get us killed just as easy."

"437." Replied Seraph in hesitation. "I was level 437 after 30 or so years in the dungeon. My strength, my stats didn't measure in the hundreds, it measured in the thousands. I was a god among men, and I failed because I focused on myself when I should have made men into gods."

"Alright." Nodded Calibur. "I can work with that, and we've still got time, we need to plan."
