"Sorry kiddo, I think it got me good." Said Paul as he lay collapsed on the ground holding his bleeding arm while blood spilled underneath him from the lacerations on his back.

Seraph wanted to help him but couldn't, not yet, not while the screams of who knows how many of those monsters was out there, and they were coming.

Reaching into his spacial pocket, Seraph pulled out the last of his gauze and the pain pills he had found.

"I need you to take this, can you apply this yourself?" Asked Seraph. It wasn't a request, as much as a declaration, but he hoped the answer was yes. He wanted his father to survive this. Seraph needed him to survive, he needed people willing to challenge his impulses, someone that Seraph would realistically never kill in disagreement.

"Just survive, ok?" Seraph said, not waiting for an answer as he lay both hands the monster, in an attempt to activate Abyssal Touch on the monster he had killed. Rapidly, though not as quick as Seraph wanted, the body disappeared into glowing amber energy that encircled his hands and ran around Seraph's body.

Notification: Monster Identified - "Hunger" Mutated Humanoid. Weakness to fire, strong against ice. Tough skin. Razor teeth. Limited Intelligence.

"That is useful." Admitted Seraph begrudging as he dismissed the prompt.

Notification: Organic Matter - "Hunger" has been converted into healing energy. This energy cannot be saved or stored and quickly dissipates.

"Perfect, this should help him." Thought Seraph. He knew he couldn't celebrate yet with the sounds of monsters heavy in the distance and moving closer, but this, this small victory, deserved a smile.

Wary and not wanting to waste the energy, Seraph ran to his father who was still stirring on the ground clutching his bleeding arm where his hand had been severed. Though some of the bleeding had stopped due to the gauze, there was not enough of it to stop all of the bleeding, and the man was noticeably paling in the few minutes that had passed.

To Seraph, that Paul was still bleeding at all was a concern, it meant the magic of the dungeon had not yet begun to heal the man. Which could only mean that there were enemies close enough to interfere with the magic and prevent the regeneration. Worse still that they didn't have any sort of higher end medical gear or items to take care of issues.

"And that's why I'm trying this." Thought Seraph as he laid his hands on Paul and let the healing energy that he had absorbed from the body of the Hunger flow through him.

As Seraph lay his hands across Paul's c.h.e.s.t and poured the healing energy into him, nothing happened. The amber glowing light parted from Seraph's fingertips and disappeared into the air, wasted.

Notification: Error - The healing energy provided by Abyssal Touch can only be applied to "Self". All current healing energy has been lost.

Internally, Seraph screamed in anger at the situation. As if in answer to his frustrations from all around the building he could hear the howls and screams of all the nearby Hungers, searching, some near and some far, for the humans whom they would feast on.

Seraph allowed his senses to fade except for his hearing, and heard shuffling, not pursuing footsteps, the Hungers did seem to have fixated on their exact location, Seraph and Paul would have a few minutes at least.

In a situation like this, all they could do was basic triage and hope for the best. As far as Seraph could tell they had no means of escape and while he did not know how many of the monsters would be outside of the building he could guess by the sound they were numerous enough that they would not be able to run away and escape. Likewise with Paul's current physical condition, Seraph and his father would be unable to fight their way to safety. Leaving them only two options, the second of which was to bunker down and use the environment to try and control for the difference in numbers.

The first issue at hand that Seraph needed to deal with was the immediate need of finding a way to provide care to his father. Though he had long since discarded the mace he had been given during the tutorial, Seraph still had the carrier loop the Mace had been secured in. Seraph quickly tore it off and grabbed Paul's arm.

"This should stop the rest of the bleeding. You did good using the gauze to seal up everything else." Seraph complimented, trying to get his father to communicate. The man stirred, but Seraph realized he had become unconscious, it was apparent that if Seraph was not able to get him ambulatory care soon, his father would likely die for a second time.

With brutal efficiency, Seraph was able to wake Paul up after slapping his face a few times and rubbing his sternum.

"You need to stay awake. They're coming." Seraph commanded, his irritation trying to mask his unease over Paul's situation, and their own desperate situation.

Seraph looked down to inspect his work real quick and noticed that it seemed to have mostly stopped the bleeding it would have to do for now until he was able to find something better to work with or until he was able to get his father out of her.

The only saving grace the two of them had currently was that the information center only had one entrance that they had found so far and they had no reason to believe that there would be any other as the reception area they were in didn't have an entrance.

The second saving grace was that the Hunger appeared to be of low and dim intelligence, the swollen and engorged monsters may have appeared to have once been human but whatever intelligence humans possessed seem to have abandoned them once they became these monsters.

Still it didn't matter if there is only one entrance or if the Hungers possessed little intelligence. With the sheer number of monsters that he could hear around the building all it would take is one or two to find the door for the rest to follow.

It would only be a matter of time and a short matter at that before they could find their way into the building which would alert all the others on their location and then they could assume that every glutton within the local proximity would be drawn to that entrance and they would be swarmed. Maybe if they were still healthy they would be OK but they weren't as such Seraph could barely defend himself and Paul was in danger of succ.u.mbing to his injuries.

It was then that an idea took hold in Seraphs mind as he was looking around frantically for anything that they could maybe use as a blockade or as a weapon or even as a place to hide but then he caught sight of the ability shop kiosk the entire reason that they it were even in this place and it now read "Sol: 01024".

With a burst of motivation Seraph reached out to his barely conscious father and drug him to the ability kiosk a new reading appeared for his father "Sol: 00960". Seraph was unsure of what abilities would be offered but he hoped that maybe there would be enough Sol to be spent that his father could acquire something that might save them from the situation.

"Dad" Seraph said breaking the rule that Paul had asked him. "I'm sorry to have to do this you're pretty hurt and you need attention but I can't give that to you here I need to make sure more of those monsters don't get into the building, and I need to try and find something to help us out, I saw a door by the entrance, I'm going to try to barricade that and see if there is anything we can use inside."

Paul looked at him, weak from blood loss and didn't say anything. Seraph took the blinking of the man's eyes as confirmation that he understood what Seraph was asking of him.

"I need you to find something on that Kiosk, I wish I could give you better guidance, but we are almost out of time. I need you to figure it out. I know you're struggling but you can do this just stay awake don't give up." Seraph could only hope his words helped his father to find some reserves of strength to pull from, he would need it.

With nothing left to say, Seraph placed father's hands almost lifeless and freezing hands on to the ability kiosk and ran down the hall.

From the outside, Seraph could hear the sound of the Hunger's dragging their arms as they were getting closer. The groans and the screams get louder as they approached, Seraph knew they were almost out of time. As he ran down the hall he was thankful that he did so as he saw the entryway door was still open though there was no sign of the gluttons though he could hear them

Without any hesitation, he crept up to the door as quiet as could be and slowly and softly closed it. But as the door clicked into place, his heart stopped as the noise outside all ended. "They know." Seraph thought, time was up. He heard the movement outside stop and then began again heading directly towards him.

On borrowed time as quick as he could, Seraph ran to the closed door, checking first by putting his ear to the thin door to see if he heard anything from inside. There wasn't enough time for him to do any additional checks, and not hearing any movement, he opened the door.

It was a janitor's closet full of paper towels and toilet paper cleaning supplies couple my buckets in a mop and one of those industrial size sinks in case of chemical spills to clean out the eyes and to rinse the mops. He saw what he had came for.

On the wall above the sink, and above the eye washing facet was a medical kit. Seraph quickly grabbed it and opened it finding additional wraps, and pills, but nothing further. He put them away in his spacial pocket and continued searching. wraps disinfectant but nothing further. It was something on the sink though that caught his eye as he prepared to run back to his father the copper sigil of a basic class, the sign of the shield, the representation of the Tank specilization.

He grabbed it and instantly felt a jolt of power that quickly passed through him. Unlike other emblems a basic class had no requirements before it could be used. In his past life he had supplemented his legendary class with abilities from the lesser classes generated with the specializations. Though he had never been a pure tank class, he was familiar enough with the importance of defense and hardening. Though it was also uncertain how the of the class was the same, he knew if he accepted the generalization, he would be unable to select another speciality at this tier, though he would have freedom to choose when the next tier becomes available.

Notification: You have acquired "Shield Sigil". Do you wish to use the sigil to gain the "Tank" generalization?

With the limited options he had at his disposal Seraph accepted the specialization and as his class changed so did his appearance as the clothes he was wearing were replaced by a smokey grey plate armor. This should provide the edge they needed. He hoped his fathers time with the ability kiosk had been as successful.

Notification: Due to gaining the "Tank" generalization you have gained +2 Endurance and +1 to Strength.

Without stopping to further examine himself, Seraph dismissed the prompts and gathered up the cleaning materials before dumping them all out on the floor near the entrance and followed it up with the toilet paper and towels. Just in time as he saw the door handle began to move and oversized bodies pressed against the door, the door already bowing inwards in strain, time was short.

Seraph made his way down the Hall as quickly as he could, "Hey dad" he said "Wake up, stay lively, they're almost here, it's go time."

But when he got to the reception area Seraph saw that Paul had fallen concious again. The man's c.h.e.s.t barely moving, his only sign of life was the mans short and shallow breathes. He lay unconcious slumped in front of the ability Kiosk.

Seraph grimanced. This was not the result he was looking for. He had wanted Paul to live, and now it seemed likely they were both going to die, unless Seraph did something drastic. It was not something he had wanted to do. Seraph brought out his Cat's Claw ready to painlessly sever Paul's nervous system so he could absorb his power and maybe get out of here. His heart pounding, and his mind full of regret, a few tears moving freely down his face, Seraph mouthed an "I'm sorry." when he reached his father and as he prepared to plunge the blades in he stopped himself.

For the briefest of moments, Seraph saw the selection his father had made. In his father's hand he held an emblem to gain the "Preservation" ability which would allow someone once per day to send another person back to the safety of Hometown, teleported directly onto the recall platform. It was not an ability that could be used on oneself and was a rare ability that team leaders and healers often tried to pick up to supplement their ability kits.

There was only one reason his father would have picked that ability. Paul had intended to save Seraph and sacrifice himself. "Well not today." Thought Seraph as he wiped the tears from his face and steadied himself as Seraph as he grabbed the emblem from Paul's unconscious hands and made the mental command to accept the ability.

Notification: Ability Unlocked. "Preservation" Once per day, stabilize and send target to Hometown, directly to the Inn of the Cursed Fig to receive care.

Seraph laid a hand on his father's head, and mentally selected him as the target of the ability and whispered "Live" into the man's ear as his father disappeared in a stream of blue mana light, teleporting immediately to safety.

"At least he didn't die this time." Seraph thought consoling himself as he heard the door break down, wondering why he had done something so foolish.
