Drannor didn't stop chasing the demons, but he didn't have to go too far to reach them. He had laid dozens of traps alongside the other guards during the last three days, and even though they weren't exactly proficient at making them, it worked due to the darkness of the night. Besides, the island had some boars and bears… traps to catch those that could easily be found.

The first demon fell on a hole, and even though the creature only stayed there for a single second, when the monster left, Drannor beheaded it. The second it hit a spiked bamboo wall and grunted in pain… while that wasn't enough to kill it, Drannor found the demon thanks to the grunts. That same thing repeated itself several times until the flying demons noticed that something was off. Their allies were being killed, but Drannor wasn't moving away from the village.

After dealing with those, Drannor returned to help the other guards, but then he frowned when he saw dozens of guards already on the ground. Their shields were supposed to be pretty good, but against the power of the demons… while clicking his tongue, Drannor grabbed the crossbows of the fallen guards and aimed at the demons. While he never used that much, his aim was surprisingly good, and his lack of hesitation was troubling the demons. In the end, after losing some of their own, the demons retreated. However, after that night, they began to attack pretty much every day.

The aftermath of that battle caused trouble to Drannor in more ways than one… while the guards and he were dealing with the corpses, morning came, and while he gave the order to the children not to leave, Milliendra showed up and looked around. It wasn't the first time she had seen blood. When the mercenaries captured her and the other kids, she saw many bodies. However, what surprised Drannor was the fact that Milliendra didn't look particularly shocked… only sad… extremely sad. As if she was blaming himself for that.

"You can't stay here… we told you to stay inside," Drannor said, trying not to be too harsh.

"... These people… they died because of me, right?" Milliendra asked.

"That isn't true… they died because they wanted to protect their country," Drannor replied. "They choose this job knowing that something like this might happen… now, stay inside and wait until we tell you to leave."

Milliendra wasn't alone in that house, but it seemed that she was having a hard time interacting with other kids because she was too self-conscious of her situation. While she was shy, she was smart and sharp… After so many things happening around her since her birth, she realized that she was in the middle of something big.

In any case, Milliendra was an obedient child, so Drannor imagined that she wouldn't see that kind of thing again… he thought that until the next attack. The demons used the same tactics as before, but they were careful of traps. Thanks to that, the guards began to die, and the demons only suffered some wounds. When the first guard died, and the shields began to break, suddenly, some earth walls appeared and began to block the dark projectiles. Thanks to that, the demons froze on the spot for a short while.

"She is here! She is close by! Kill them all and get the girl!"

One didn't have to be a genius to connect the dots… somehow, Milliendra decided to intervene in the battle. Still, while she protected some of the guards, her actions only worked to entice the demons. Along that night, many more demons showed up to join the battle… against the massive numbers, the guards began to be slaughtered.

"What the fuck is wrong with those pieces of shit…" Drannor asked while he was seeing several demons dashed toward him like mad dogs.

The demons lost all reason… Even though they knew Drannor could kill them in instants, they charged toward him because he was protecting Milliendra's home. It reached a point where not even Milliendra's powers could make any difference… at least when it comes to defense. Nevertheless, the massive number of demons didn't look like it was decreasing. The number of guards was decreasing every second… even though Drannor was killing demons left and right and healing himself. The mental strain was starting to get to him… his moments had lost all the precision and grace… sometimes, he even missed the targets.

The smell of death and that crazy scene where Noemi could see thousands of corpses made her recall some bad memories. Still, even though she wasn't much of a fighter, she used the crossbows she could find against the demons… there was no way she would let them take his friends' daughter. Drannor and Noemi kept fighting alongside the guards, but then… something beyond their control happened. They had seen some demons flying toward the volcanoes early. Still, they didn't expect they could do anything with it… they changed their minds when the whole island began to tremble.

Suddenly, an explosion happened in the distance and then saw the volcano spelling a lot of magma upwards. Some rocks began to fly and land across the island thanks to the explosion, and then the destruction began to spread across the island. The destruction caused by the demons couldn't even compare to that… still, they wanted more… They wanted to wipe out all those that could get in their way, so the volcano began to tremble again.

"No! Stop!" Milliendra shouted after leaving her home.

It was just the scream of a child, but as if her voice alone had that power, the demons obeyed her. For a moment, some demons thought that the power of their master had fully awakened on Milliendra. However, they soon resumed their massacre. She was just a vessel. She couldn't give them any orders.

"I said to stop!" Milliendra shouted and then made blocks of earth emerge around the demons on the ground, and on the next moment, she crushed them with those.

That was a power that Milliendra hadn't shown before, the earth walls that she produced earlier… Drannor thought it was a fluke. However, he soon realized that it wasn't when Milliendra used an earth block to fly and approach the flying demons. Drannor enhanced his body using all the blood his sword had accumulated, to the point where it looked like his veins were about to explode, and he jumped to stop Milliendra, but dozens of demons got in his way. While he killed half of them in a moment, he began to fall… before he could try again, he felt his legs cracking when he landed, and the pressure of his power made him feel even more pain. Drannor collapsed, and the last thing he saw was Milliendra being taken by the flying demons. The battle was over, but the cost to end it…
