The Heavenly Crystal

Chapter 3 - The Crystal

The three friends happily ate together.

"By the way, did Taylor cause your injuries again?" asked Karl after seeing the bruises on his friends.

"Haha! It's nothing, they retreated with their tails tucked firmly between their legs" laughed Terrius loudly while munching on his meat bun.

"We dealt heavy damage to him and his cronies and it looks like they won't be able to attack us for a few weeks" smiled Roan.

"That's a good news! We will be able to scavenge without worry!" said Karl happily.

"That's right! So just eat up and when you feel much better, then you can go with us" Roan said.

"Of course, tomorrow I'll go with you guys."

Karl dressed the wounds of his friends with a clean cloth in a rough manner and then forced them to clean his house afterwards.

"Its almost five in the afternoon, we will go home for now Karl" said Roan as he stood up from his chair.

"Tomorrow at six in the morning, I'll be there in your house" Karl answered.

Terrius patted Karl's back with his large hands and said "Don't send us home, take a rest for now."

Karl smiled in response and went back to bed when he can no longer see their silhouettes.

In an underground lab, numerous individuals wearing white lab coats were moving in disarray.

"Call the head researcher, I have grave news for him. Hurry!"

Several people moved after receiving the order.

"Shit! This has never happened before. This might bring unexpected changes to the whole world" muttered a middle aged guy while clenching his fists in nervousness.

"Sir, we found another disturbance in the Earth's magnetosphere."

An old man in his sixties can be seen walking in their direction with a few men following behind him.

"Show me the status" said the old man gravely.

"Yes sir, please follow me" the middle aged man said hastily.

"Here sir, this is the report and I've also calculated the possible outcomes of the incoming storm."

The old man read the report and his aged eyes grew larger after reading a few lines from it.

"It looks like many will die this time" said the old man in a shaking voice.

All faces dropped significantly after hearing what the old man said.

"I guess this is fate. But there is something different about this magnetic storm. Although the solar corona might be a bit unstable due to certain factors and has been sending stronger solar winds to space, but still, what is this unknown energy?" muttered the old man in confusion.

The others just remained silent and were in deep thought.

"When will it reach us? And what are the outcomes that you mentioned?" asked the old man towards the middle aged man.

"We have around nineteen minutes left sir before the solar winds reach our world's atmosphere" said the middle aged man in a small voice.

"And the possible outcomes?"

The middle aged man opened his mouth, but then closed it back down.

"Say it. I already know it anyway" the old man said while smiling weakly.

"Many of the old people will die sir, especially the one with weaker hearts, since the magnetic storm affects the heart and arteries significantly" said the middle aged man gravely.

The old man sighed after hearing that and walked out of the room.

"Don't follow me. I want to be alone" he said.

One of his most trusted assistants was about to follow him, but someone grabbed his arms before he can even walk. He saw the middle aged man shaking his head slowly. The young assistant sighed and sat down sadly.

"I'll head home first, be careful Roan" said Terrius while waving his hands.

"Yeah, you too."

After walking for a few minutes, he went inside his now door-less house.

"That bastard, I'll let him fix my door the first thing tomorrow" he muttered.

A loud sound similar to an explosion can be heard outside.

Roan covered his ears with his hands and he felt his heart beating wildly and his arteries felt like bursting. Blood flowed on the bruised part of his body ceaselessly.

"Uuuughh" he howled in pain while holding his c.h.e.s.t.

Similar situations happened all around the world. Several planes crashed because of the event, car accidents and all sorts of destruction. Everything was engulfed in chaos. Many people died from the accidents alone, and about more than forty percent of the population died from cardiac arrest.

An old man in white lab coat was sitting peacefully in his office. He was not breathing anymore and blood can be seen trickling down his lips.

Back to an old dilapidated house which has no door, a young man can be seen struggling to stand up. He reached out his hands to grab something to lean on, and was able to stand up with great difficulty.

He was able to walk towards his bed groggily, but then collapsed afterwards.

A banging sound can be heard inside an old wooden box like something wants to get out of it. The box sprung open and the object that emerged from it emitted a bright light.

The light came from a near perfectly round stone which has several cracks on it. After a few moments, the light was gone and a very beautiful crystal can be seen floating flawlessly in midair.

The crystal was perfect in shape and upon closer look, it's like a whole universe was inside of it. At the very center of the crystal is a small red sphere, like a drop of blood. The most surprising thing is that, it's making the crystal look more holy and profoundly beautiful.

The crystal continued to float in midair while moving slowly towards the unconscious Roan. The moment it reached Roan's c.h.e.s.t, it dug a hole on his skin and melted the moment it touched his heart. The red sphere similarly assimilated itself in Roan's heart.

Somewhere in a faraway universe, a luxuriously dressed man who was floating in midair felt something and smiled mysteriously.

"Is there something wrong Your Highness?"

"Nothing much, just execute the plan and kill all the members of the Underworld Demon Clan" he said calmly.

"Yes, Your Highness"

The luxuriously dressed man smiled as he looked at the empty void.

"I will wait for you my dear brother"
