The Immortal Player

Chapter 4: First Boss!

"That is relieving! Gladly, I was able to register for the closed beta phase. The rumors were true after all!" Pedro leaned back to the chair and relaxed.

He remembered that in his past, Bearth Online only had a small number of Closed Beta Players because of a few reasons.

One reason was due to the VR Boxes and its new technology. It was evident that the Closed Beta Players would become its first users, in short, the guinea pigs. And of course, no one would take part in something like that, unless they are being paid and are earning money to do so.

What if it malfunctioned? What if there were hidden risks?

These were the questions that arose in their minds. There was uncertainty and the risks were too high. On top of that, the majority of people play games for entertainment purposes only. There was no need for them to take the risk for something that is not necessary for their daily life.

"It's fine this way though," He said as his lips curled up. Then, he continued, "Less closed beta players, less competition."

"My only problem now is how to tell Annie and the rest, that I would be quitting Dragona Online?" Pedro glanced at his bed, seemingly contemplating an 'acceptable' reason for him to tell Annie and his guildmates that he would 'shift' from Dragona Online to Bearth Online.

But before he stood, he took another glance at the game logo of Bearth Online, and suddenly he remembered one of the most exciting and unique parts at the start of the game.

"In-game names."

'In-game name? Hmm...' He rubbed his chin as tons of ideas and information surged into his mind.

He remembered that the first "Cheat code or trap" considered by the players was the In-game name, IGN, selection.

In selecting an in-game name, it was a norm for a player to select or enter his personally unique IGN. Thus, players didn't know that some specific IGNs could give 'free' skills right of the bat.

Even the closed beta players are able to learn about this only when the game was officially released in his past life. On top of that, its discovery was only by accident.

One of which was a casual player who named his character "death" and received a unique skill that allows him to retain 1 HP instead of dying or having instant death. It may not seem like it but it was an overpowered life-saving skill considering that deaths from VR games, like Bearth Online, can cause instant deletion of their character. Knowing this, new players started selecting their ign carefully so that they could get some skills.

However, due to the intense competition in Bearth Online, there were only several information leaked about the 'IGNs' that gave free skills at the start.

Amongst the IGNs with leaked information were the two famous Professional Players from the Tier-A League named 'Hope' and 'Faith'. They were amongst the top 100 players all over the world, so, it was only natural for information about them to be leaked or scouted.

~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hope"
The player that had this IGN was given a legendary-rated skill that boosts the Attack Damage and HP regeneration of that player and his allies by 70% as his HP falls below 20%.
This was a godly skill specially designed for tanks. Imagine doing PVEs with your main tank having this skill. Not only would it help sustain the survivability of everyone in the party, but it can also increase their firepower on crucial times.
"Faith"
The player who had this IGN gained a legendary-rated skill that boosts his and his allies' attack damage by 150% and, at the same time, increase the life steal by 100% of the user's damage when his HP falls below 10%.
Only one word, "OP"! It was overpowered.
Those two were amongst the well-known IGNs that gave a legendary-rated skill right of the start. Both skills' only weakness was that when the player's HP returns to 30% the effect will end and a cooldown of 3 minutes will start.
"Man... With so many IGNs to choose from... I can't wait to play the game again!"
Out of his excitement, he took a paper and pen, and he started writing down a list of IGNs that he could remember whilst placing a mark on the IGNs he might use.
After an hour, he decided to go back to sleep rather than stressing his mind on choosing the best IGN for him to use. It was best to calm and clear his mind first. Besides, he had enough time to think about it.
In the morning, he did his daily routine. He washed his face, brushed his teeth, took an exercise, ate breakfast, took care of the dishes, and then took a bath.
Though their family had maids, he was still brought up by his parents and was required to do house chores. One of those chores assigned to him was to wash dishes in the morning. After his morning routine, he returned to his room and contemplated which ign he would choose.
Soon, his VR Box was delivered. However, while it was being installed, he remembered his father and realized that he would definitely learn that he purchased a VR Box.
It would, with a hundred percent, anger his father. Hence, he must devise a plan or an explanation that would be acceptable.
"I guess there is only one way to do this." He shook his head as he started typing on his computer. Then, he added, "I didn't think that the first boss that I would encounter is... My father!"
