The Liberal Assassin

Chapter 49 - Jealousy

"Thank you, everyone!" The doe-eyed pop idol smiled as the crowd cheered. Sapphire blue eyes sparkled and I found myself drawn to them once more.

Sable Vogel is the ideal girl any straight man can have. Petite looking and small enough to cuddle, long black wavy hair that covers most of her back, the cute dance moves and innocent reactions during interviews were some of the many reasons why she has almost all of Luna's male population as her fans.

Ignacio did a good job of planning the Slums tour. I wasn't too sure if the idea would be well-received as Sable was a typical Inner City spoiled brat. She didn't mean any harm but her childishness could rub people the wrong way especially in the Slums when their motto was 'Live Strong'.

Looking forward to the over the top costumes Sable wore, I wasn't disappointed to see a colourful dress with mock feathers. From my private room in the very large concert tent, I never thought the day would come when I would get to enjoy the privilege of savouring her performances without getting elbowed by other overly enthusiastic fanatics. It was a pleasant change of pace, one of the perks of being a rich founder.

Felix declined my invitation to watch Sable's performance although he did mention he would reschedule for another meeting when he wasn't as busy. It was a little sad but I understood. The man was an important figure in Luna and it couldn't be helped.

Kevin alerted me that Sable was escorted off the stage and I quickly straightened my tie.

"Update Mr N about the movement and keep him posted on our location. Tell Yankee to get into position, it shouldn't be long."

"Yes, sir. Yankee will be on standby."

Just as I cut off communication, there was a knock on the door.

"Mr Crowley, Ms Vogel is here."

"Come in."

A tall man with platinum grey hair appeared as the automated door slid open. He bowed and introduced himself as Cass Cross. The man was extremely polite and acted in a friendly manner but that smile never reached his eyes. It didn't help that this man's dull grey eyes kept looking as if I was a person with numbered days. The rest of what he said flew out of my brain when Sable stepped away from his hulking frame.

The top of her head barely reached my c.h.e.s.t even with stilettoes and she looked even more angelic up close.

"I shall take my leave now," Cass concluded and I nodded with a smile.

Sable's cheerful reply made the stiff expression on Cass' face soften but once she turned away I saw the glare directed at me. The message was very clear. Step out of line and he would slit my throat in my sleep. If I had been any lesser man I would have cowered.

The door slid shut and once the scary manager was out of sight, I brought forth my most charming personality. Taking Sable's tiny hand in mine, I kissed the back of it and flashed the hundred watt smile.

"Ignacio has built a new mansion for me after the second time the Night Walker nearly killed me. It's one of the safest places I know other than Luna Security and the Patrol Guards' Headquarters. How does a tour sound?"

The curiosity in Sable's sapphire eyes sparkled but she played it coy. "Well, Sable doesn't really know. Cass did say not to leave the premise after all…"

Oh? So the innocent Sable might have another side to her. "I promise to take you back here safe and sound."

"Eh? But Cass might be angry if he knows Sable went out to play…"

Throwing a wink that no lady could resist, I leaned in and lowered my voice to a whisper. "He won't be if it can be our little secret. I promise to be a good boy and take you back on time."

The idol giggled and latched onto my arm. "We better hurry then, Mr Crowley. I don't want to get caught by Cass."

"Mr Crowley makes me sound old," I pouted while telling Kevin to text for 'the chauffeur'.

"Hmm…" the idol pondered while tapping a finger to her very kissable lips. "I know! How about Titty?"

Pyros could have frozen with the suggestion and I stiffened. Pulling myself together, I tried for another smile. "I think Titus is fine. Titty is a little bit damaging to a man's pride."

"Oh," Sable looked dejected and a part of me wanted to cave in. Before I could offer any consoling words the girl brought up another suggestion.

"What about Tits?"

By that time we've entered the hoverer that Rush invented with Khronos' help. The maroon-haired traitor heard it and laughed at her suggestion.

"Hi Sable, I'm Rush Rhodes – your chauffeur for today. I think T.i.t.s is a nice nickname, don't you think, Mr Crowley?"

I shot him a glare and wished I had broken a few more bones so he would still be in the infirmary. The hooligan had the nerve to laugh in my beautiful and offended face before turning to the idol and yakking away like she was his best friend.
