The Liberal Assassin

Chapter 52 - Ruled by the Heart

"Get down here and help me now you damned brat! I can't hold him for long!"

Yupp, that's my cue. "Coming!"

Nash could probably hold him for three more minutes while I searched for something to immobilise the mystery attacker. After searching for ten seconds, I remembered how I didn't invent any gadgets to hold captives. Smacking my forehead, I swiped an illegal amount of tranquillizers, praying it would be enough to subdue him for a while before I went to search for ropes.

"Hurry it up!"

"Coming!"

I was making my way down the stairs when I remembered why there was a problem. "The stairs are broken…"

Nash rolled his eyes. "Jump then. You're not some fragile maiden are you?"

Well, that's true but the jagged edges looked slightly intimidating when I'm not in the Night Walker's suit.

"Sissy."

"What did you say?"

"Well, can't blame me," Nash smirked. "You're too worried about tearing your suit to jump after all."

Oh, I'll show him 'sissy' when I get there.

"Just you wait," I snarled while surveying an area that would do the least damage. It happened to be a coincidence but the only safe landing area was on the conveniently pinned man.

Preparing for my launch, I bounced on the balls of my feet twice. My landing pad made a pained 'oof' sound and I cringed.

"So sorry," I told the seething man who struggled a little more in Nash's grip. "I'm going to have to put you to sleep for a while."

He glared at me through the mask. Well, what did he expect? Did he think I was apologising for using him as a landing pad? If anything, I would be thanking him for his services.

The man went slump as soon as the tranquillizer worked its magic. Nash relaxed and let go of the hulking frame. I removed the mask and took the communicator out.

"This is the handsome face you wanted," I drawled out, exhausted.

Khronos only grunted in reply and then the usual typing ensemble started.

"Cass Cross, Sable's manager. It's a little strange because his hair should be platinum grey. Anyway, someone tampered with his records because I can't find his history. He might be working for the Patrol Guards, Luna Security or any Parliament member."

"Thanks, we'll be handling T&I from here. Oh, has Ignacio contacted you yet? I sent Sable there."

Nash went upstairs to retrieve the still unconscious gang leader, hauling the man over one shoulder.

"Negative. I could track the girl's whereabouts if you want."

"Tits!"

I looked back. Sure enough, there was the idol in question. "No need," I told the scientist before cutting off communication.

"Sable, I thought I told you to go to Ignacio?"

The idol nodded her head, hair swaying with the movement. "I tried but I didn't know how to operate the strange wheeler Rush made. I saw help arrive so I waited till everything became silent again."

Help? What help?

"Hi there, thank you for saving T.i.t.s and Rush," the idol bowed and Nash blinked.

"Uh, no problem. I never thought you'd be straight Titus."

So that's what it was. "Um, Sable, this is my teacher, the man who I told you raised me? And no Nash, Sable isn't my girlfriend but I'm straight."

A groan from behind us startled me. That's even quicker than I expected!

Nash dropped Rush on me and quickly held the stirring man down. Sable squeaked and hid behind me while I struggled to keep hold Rush up. This Yankee was heavier than he looked…

As the man snapped out of the sleep induced state, he struggled to break free and glared at me.

"Sable! Get away from him now! That man is the Night Walker and he wants to kidnap you. I know his plans, you must leave now!"

Nash's eyes widened and he grew feral. A sickening crack was heard as bones were broken in the grip. Sable's eyes widened in horror as the pinned assailant howled in pain.

"No stop!" Sable ran towards Nash trying to pry him off.

"Sable come back, he's dangerous!"

She shook her head and glared at me. "No! Cass would never hurt me, he's always protected me. Stop it! Let go, you're hurting him…"

My heart went out to her at the pleas. After talking with her, I knew how she felt. If it were me in her shoes, I would have done the same. It didn't matter if the person I loved was a murderer, I would have sided with them anyway.

"Nash, let go… please?"

"Titus!" I could see shock reflected in forest green eyes. I only shook my head.

"It's alright. I can handle this. Please trust me?"

Hesitation and fear were among the sea of emotions in his wise eyes. Conflicted between logic and emotion, Nash relented and I thanked him silently from the bottom of my heart. This could only be a bad decision but I decided not to regret it.
