The Liberal Assassin

Chapter 9 - Goodbye Academy, Hello Shitty Life (2)

"Place that box to the left. I'll unpack that later. The table goes here. Yes, please help me fix the shutters. Ah, you can leave the equipment against that wall…"

Eleven in the morning and I was already busy with the office. Felix really didn't have to get such a huge office for me. I suppose the good thing was how I had a secure place for Night Walker's activities with all the security and privacy. I'm not entirely over how the entire floor was made into my private office and even the lift to this level was only accessible with my identity card.

The robotic movers helped shift the heavy equipment. Things were progressing really smoothly and everything should be done with it by the end of the day. Of course, the office had everything including a pantry and a bathroom with shower facilities. Did Felix expect me to pull all-nighters in my office? Then again, that man knew how much of a workaholic I was. Perhaps it isn't a coincidence they were built in.

While most graduates would have secured accommodations upon graduation, I was a little too preoccupied to think that far ahead. Luckily that has now been taken care of with Felix's foresight.

It was four in the afternoon when the movers finally left and I started unpacking the untouched boxes. All my Night Walker related goodies spilt out and they were hardly recognisable. It took a few painful weeks for me to modify them to look like normal objects, picture frames, workstation, hair ties, clips etc… It was a tedious but fulfilling project.

Ignoring most the items on the floor, I searched for my trusted buddies. Even though I couldn't bring the chair from the dormitory, I brought along Cain and Kevin. It was already eight at night but I suppose it's a good time to get started on the network configurations.

A week passed by in a flash and I settled into the routine of multitasking. While training with Nash at night hasn't been on my list of things to do, I've already visited him twice this week. Apparently, the route I mentioned was still under investigation.

Slowly but surely the credits in my account were running low despite my part-time job as an information broker. Accommodation in the Inner City were pricier than I had expected. With much difficulty and some string pulling, I secured myself a two-year lease with a small apartment in Area Thirty, the poorest part in the Inner City.

Moving in had been less stressful than setting up the office as I had very little personal belongings, most being clothing and some gadgets unrelated to my other persona. Unpacking took only two hours, a walk in a park compared to the time I took to ready my office.

Despite the crappy situation, I was still happy that I got myself a place. Settling down on the first real bed in days, it didn't take long to fall into a dreamless sleep.
