I hesitated to enter the police station because I was afraid of being interrogated like this.

Should I mention that I want to use the phone? Or should I just leave? I was in the midst of contemplating.

The man lying on the floor seemed unable to move his head, as if he were trembling in fear of the glass falling.

I swallowed hard and looked at Eden. I knew it, but that person is truly not a normal guy.

As I remained silent and frozen, Eden smiled broadly and introduced the fallen man.

“He’s a domestic violence offender. Don’t get me wrong. This trash isn’t worth being treated as a human. Because of this bastard’s swing of a bottle, his wife was escorted to the hospital. She still hasn’t woken up.”

“Unbelievable. You kept him alive?”

Eden burst into laughter, seeming to find my response amusing.

I swear, Eden turning the fallen man’s clothes into rags is as unexpected as Harrison wearing glasses.

Eden took out a pocket watch from his pants pocket, checked the time, and stood up from his seat.

“So, what brings you to the police station? Oh, perhaps you’re inviting me to the mansion?”

“I must have come to the wrong place. I apologize for the intrusion.”

I quietly closed the police station door just as I had opened it.

Upon reconsideration, I realized that if I wanted to use the phone, I had to make the call inside that small police station, with Eden listening in no less.

‘That’s absolutely not possible.’

As soon as the police station door closed, I heard the sound of the Scotch whiskey glass falling to the floor and shattering.

“If you break that, you’ll die, remember? Oh, did you want to die?”

Gulping, I hastily left the police station, leaving behind the screams echoing from inside.

‘I must never get involved with that man.’

Unable to do anything else, I went to the neighboring village Kint to find a telephone.

However, Kint was just a slightly larger village than Brunel, but it was still a countryside village. The only places with telephones were the train station and the police station, and unfortunately, all the phones were out of order.

‘Is this even possible? Nothing seems to be working.’

In the end, I gave up on using the phone and decided to send a letter at the post office instead.

I asked Harrison if there might be firearms mixed in with the weapons he was searching for, and I also checked if everything was fine in the capital. Because no matter how you think about it, it was so strange that Ethan was assigned to Brunel.

If possible, I didn’t forget to add a request to find a way to get rid of Eden from this village.

It might take some time for the letter to be delivered, but it would be better than making a call in front of Eden.

On my way back to the town of Brunel, I stopped in Kint and bought a daily newspaper.

[A social party that has reached a downturn due to the absence of the gossip girl……. Where’s the Cherry Sinclair that everyone is waiting for?]

Could it be possible that a social party went into a downturn just because I left for a moment? Maybe they were bored because there was nothing to gossip about.

The following articles weren’t particularly interesting either.

[It turns out that the Segrave family is actually related to ancient culture…….]

The Segreve family was a fictional family that only existed in legends. They appeared a lot in the fairy tales I read when I was young. They were heroes who protected the world from evil or were the guardians of humanity. It was a story that could easily be in a superhero movie, so children loved it.

“If such a family really existed, I wish they would appear and help with the virus.”

I let out a deep sigh.

Anyway, since there was no news about the awaited virus monster, I discarded the newspaper without any regrets.

With all my tasks completed, I finally returned to the mansion.

Now it was time to start the repairs and cleaning of the mansion in earnest.

***

I stood still in the middle of the garden and looked at the exterior of the mansion I had purchased.

This secluded mansion looked eerie and dirty, as if ghosts might appear at any moment. In the original work, Vanilla never provided a detailed description of the mansion, so I didn’t expect it to be in such a state.

The mansion was two stories high, and there were visible parts of the exterior walls crumbling. The garden had also been neglected for a long time, with weeds overgrown everywhere.

The interior was in a worse state. The furniture and trash were left untouched, and dust settled hazily everywhere. Honestly, it looked no different from an abandoned house.

Before starting the cleaning, I thought I should give a name to the mansion. Otherwise, I doubted I would develop any affection for this dilapidated place.

⟨Cherry’s Temporary Shelter⟩

With great ambition, I made a sign, but the wording felt dull and didn’t resonate with me.

“Hmm. It lacks some soul.”

I rephrased the wording.

 ⟨Cherry’s Temporary Shelter Happy House⟩

I placed my hands on my hips and quietly admired the sign.

“Now it’s a bit cute.”

I smiled with satisfaction.

If only I had known in advance the significance Happy House would hold for humanity, I definitely wouldn’t have named it like this.

At that time, I had no idea that the name “Cherry’s Happy House” would be recorded in history books.

Anyway, after hanging the sign in front of the entrance, I brushed off my hands and entered the mansion.

Then, in the first-floor lobby, I spread out the blueprint of the mansion that Vanilla had given me. I wanted to familiarize myself with the structure of the mansion.

The two-story mansion looked like a rotated capital letter “D” (⊓), and there was a fountain in the center.

In front of the fountain, there was a garden, and within that garden, there was a well and a hut, probably a warehouse.

And only by passing through this garden would I reach the mansion’s main door.

‘As Vanilla says, the garden is large, so it would be perfect for gardening.’

Since I had never cultivated a vegetable patch before, I bought numerous related books. It was a matter of survival, so I had to figure it out somehow.

‘I can do it.’

To survive for two years, I needed to create an environment where I could be self-sufficient in terms of food and water. I also had to construct defensive walls to ensure the mansion’s safety from monster attacks.

However, I noticed something strange written on the back of the map blueprint. It was a trace of something written in ink and then crossed out.

‘Huh?’

I held the blueprint up to the sunlight streaming through the window and closely examined the words.

[Things to remember:

Number 1 is Brunel, Number 3 is Spring Water, Number 6 is The Hague, Number 8 is Notium.]

It seems like it was roughly written, and I have no idea what the remaining letters mean.

‘What does this mean?’

I know that “Brunel” is the name of a town and “Notium” is the name of a street in the capital, but what about “Spring Water” and “The Hague”?

It was a memo full of questions.

However, there were many immediate tasks at hand, so I decided to put aside this cryptic phrase for now and focus on what needed to be done.

‘Because I have priorities.’

I calmly decided to explore the mansion and stood in the first-floor lobby.

To the left of the lobby were two rooms, a banquet hall, and a kitchen, while to the right were three rooms and a large salon.

One of the rooms near the banquet hall and kitchen was a very sunny room. I chose that room, with windows facing the garden, as the one I would primarily occupy.

The room was extremely messy, with only an unmade bed and a broken wardrobe. However, it looked quite decent for living alone because it had a fireplace.

‘I should clean the fireplace too.’

I sat in front of the fireplace first. Some bricks on the mantel shelf of the fireplace had collapsed, blocking the chimney.

When I cleared away the broken bricks, I saw an iron stand for holding firewood inside, which was filled with burnt firewood and ashes.

“Wait… What was burned here?”

Among the firewood, I discovered pieces of fabric that looked like parts of a men’s jacket and pieces that resembled dress sleeves. And underneath them, I saw a white, hard stick.

“This is…”

Curiously examining it,

‘Could it be human bones?’

That thought crossed my mind, and I was startled, dropping the fabric piece from my hand. It fell onto the pile of ashes, causing a cloud of dust to rise.

“Cough, cough.”

Goosebumps covered my body, and I shivered. After a moment, the dust settled, and I could see the inside of the fireplace more clearly.

On top of the ashes, there was the fabric piece I had dropped a moment ago, and beneath it, I saw a white stick.

Upon closer inspection, it was just a piece of chalk used on a blackboard.

“Ha… I got scared for nothing.”

I breathed a sigh of relief and brushed off my chest.

I knew it wasn’t human bones, but being alone in this room for a moment gave me a slight chill.

‘Why are torn fabric pieces in the fireplace anyway?’

That part was very odd. After staring at the fireplace for a while, I left the room.

‘I’ll deal with the fireplace later.’

As I stepped out of the room, I saw a slightly chilly corridor.

Is it because I got scared? The corridor, which was perfectly normal just a while ago, now seemed like a place where ghosts would appear.

“No, Cherry. Don’t become weak. From now on, this is your home!”

Slapping both of my cheeks lightly, I regained my composure and walked towards the central lobby.

‘Yes, that’s right. Vanilla from the original story managed to survive here. I can do it too.’

I tried to gather my courage.
