The Reincarnated Archmage

Chapter 30 - A Problem in her First Day of Class

Eliana and I walk side by side until we arrived in our class section. The moment we step inside the room, every student inside suddenly looks at us. Eliana flinches a little, but maintain her calm posture. But since I'm used to getting a lot of unwanted attention, I just simply ignore them. We decided to sit in the last row near the window to avoid getting more attention from the class.

Though some students continue what they are doing, we can still feel the gazes they throw at us. When Eliana looks at me, I hold her hand and give her a small smile. I know that Eliana was still s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e to this kind of scenario, so I am calming her down in my own ways. Unlike before, I can see that Eliana can now handle this situation with ease.

I can understand that we are attracting a lot of attention. Eliana and I were both from ducal houses. Not only that, but both of us are also a topic of some gossip that is spreading in high society. Eliana was a victim of rumors about her and his older brother is the cause of their family's misfortune. As for me, rumors are spreading that my engagement with that two-faced prince will get annulled anytime soon. Looking at these children, I really can't help but sigh. Instead of studying to broaden their knowledge, why do these children interested in the gossip running in high society?

"Aly, don't frown like that. They don't know the truth!" Eliana said as she suddenly holds my hand.

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

"You're frowning." Eliana said accusingly.

"Am I?"

Eliana nods her head.

"It's nothing." I said. "And I told you, didn't I? I don't give any importance to the rumors spreading in high society. Just let those people talk."

"Then why are you frowning?"

"I'm just thinking why Victor is still not here." I said. "The class will begin soon."

"Oh. Maybe he's lost." Eliana said as if she didn't care whether Victor is here or not. I smile wryly thinking how these two children bicker with each other.

"Show at least a bit of concern to Victor." I said.

"Hmph! Victor can go to any places and not to return ever again." Eliana said as she crosses her arms on her c.h.e.s.t. "I don't care!"

"Well, I don't care about you either."

Eliana and I turn our heads at the same time. Victor is standing proudly behind us and he has a smug expression on his face.

"Too bad. I will always return whether you like it or not, Miss Little Crybaby."

"Shut up, Mister Low Brainer!"

"Both of you. Manners and language, please."

Will there be a day where these two will get along without making any fuss? Eliana and Victor exchange a last sharp look with each other before taking their respective seats. Eliana sits on my left while Victor sits on my right. I only look at them silently and let them do whatever they want. As long as they didn't bicker with each other, everything is good.

"Why don't you throw them in the water? I just saw a huge fountain a while ago. Want me to show the way later?"

When I turn my head, Lyle is already standing behind my chair. He is lazily leaning his back on the wall with his arms crossed on his c.h.e.s.t.

'You're back.' I said through telepathy.

"Of course. I won't dare to leave you for so long." Lyle said as he shows me a smile.

"What are you looking there, Aly?" Eliana asked as she turns her head to look the direction I'm staring at.

"Nothing." I said before looking in front again. I can feel Lyle's presence behind us, but I ignore it. Since I'm the only one who can see him, I better ignore his presence and continue talking with him through telepathy.

When our homeroom teacher enters the classroom, all of the students, including us remain seated and avoid talking with each other. Our homeroom teacher is a man in his thirties. He is wearing thick eyeglasses and looks like someone who knows a lot of things. He introduced himself as Professor Germil.

Professor Germil is holding a glass crystal and carefully puts it on the table. He looks at every student in the class before slowly opening his mouth.

"We will check your magical attribute using this crystal. With these, I can know what lesson I should give to each one of you."

I may look calm and collected, but my heart is beating so fast right now. My current magic attribute is Dark. If these people will know the truth, that will be a huge problem. Possessing any dark-related magic is a taboo, especially if I haven't reached the advanced level of magic mastery. Because I'm a Dark Spirit contractor, that crystal ball will clearly feel the dark magic lingering around Lyle's body.

'Lyle, is it possible for us to hide your dark magic?' I asked Lyle through telepathy.

"I don't know. I haven't tried it yet." Lyle said as he walks freely in the class. He stops in front of the crystal ball and stares at it for a while. "I think this crystal ball is a fragment of Azularine."

Azularine is a huge, transparent crystal that can be found in the mountain of Cherigmine. I once saw it in my past life. That crystal is too powerful. It can adjust to one's mana and helps to regulate the magic that follows in a human's body.

Not only that. Azularine changes its color to show the magic attribution when someone touches it. When I touched it before, the Azularine changed its color to white because I was Veronica at that time, who was Light Magic Attributor. But if I touch it as Alyssa, with Lyle as my Dark Spirit, the transparent crystal ball will surely change its color into black.

'This is a huge problem.'

"I guess so."

I have to think of some ways for me to avoid touching the crystal. I don't want to risk the chances of these people knowing the truth. Aside from I'll be getting into big trouble, my family will also be implicated, even though they don't know anything me having a Dark Spirit. They are too nice to me, so all I want for them is to be healthy and happy all the time.

"Let's begin." Professor Germil said. Then he calls the students' names one by one.

Most of the students in the class are excited to touch the crystal ball and know their magic attributes. But their excitement instantly vanished when they touch the crystal ball. It is because the moment they touch the crystal ball, it will only glow a little without showing any different color. It only means that they don't have any elemental magic. Although they still have mana in their body, they can only use it for creating magic to use a shield or for casting magic spells.

"Lady Santore." Professor Germil called.

Eliana suddenly looks at me when our professor calls her name. I give her an encouraging smile and gently taps her back. Eliana takes a deep breath before walking in front of the class where Professor Germil placed the crystal ball. Eliana nervously puts her hand on top of the crystal ball when all of a sudden, the crystal ball changes its color into red.

"Lady Santore... You possess a fire magic attribute."

All of the students aside from me and Victor are all surprised. Since I'm the one who taught Eliana on how to control her magic, of course I know what kind of magic she possessed. As Eliana returns to her seat, the students are throwing gazes full of envy towards her direction.

"Sir Dritel."

Victor stands up from his seat and proudly walk in front of the class. Without showing any hesitations, he also put his hand on top of the crystal ball. Just like Eliana, the crystal ball changes its color into green.

"Sir Dritel, you possess a wind magic attribute!"

Victor looks at the class and shows a smug smile. This child never changes at all. He is still the proud child I once raised a long time ago. I can only shake my head and sigh helplessly towards the attitude of this kid.

"Lady Vivione."

And this is the part where I wanted to run and hide somewhere to avoid touching that crystal ball. Eliana and Victor both look at me with anticipation in their eyes. It is because they still didn't know what kind of magic I truly possess. I'm pretty sure Victor is thinking that I still have Light magic just like in the past. Would he feel disappointed once he knows that I didn't possess any light magic now?

Standing up straight, I slowly walk towards the crystal ball. My hands are still not touching any surface of that Azularine fragment. I can feel the eyes of the people staring at me and waiting to know what kind of magic I secretly possess.

"Lady Vivione?" Professor Germil calls me again. "Please put your hand on top of the crystal ball."

"...I understand."

'Lyle, any ideas?' I asked my Dark Spirit without looking at him.

"Do it."

'...'

"Put your hand on top of that crystal ball." Lyle said.

Since Lyle wants me to put my hands on it, then fine. I'll do it.

'I trust you, Lyle.'

And slowly, I gently touch the smooth surface of the crystal ball.
