The Widowed Mother, a Valiant General

As the weather grew colder, Lu Qing had already put on Han Shuo's cotton clothes, and she herself was tightly wrapped up.

It was only August and the wind was biting cold. When they reached the Jade Gate Pass, it would probably be winter and they didn't know if they would be able to make it.

Looking at the bodies of the two short and stocky men, Lu Qing's heart turned cold after knowing that they were Huns.

He no longer looked for villages to set up camp, but instead led everyone into a dense forest. After cleaning up a patch of weeds and shrubs, he told everyone to try their best not to make any noise or light a fire, and that was how they would camp for the next few days.

After eating some cold and hard pastries, Lu Qing hugged Han Shuo and fell asleep early.

In the middle of the night, Han Shuo woke up for the first time.

"Mom, I smell meat. Is it barbecue!?"

Lu Qing started to smell it carefully. Indeed, there was a smell of meat.

Could it be that those soldiers had secretly lit a fire to roast some game?

Lu Qing quietly followed the scent and made his way through the woods. Soon, however, she stopped advancing.

Not only was there the fragrance of the meat, there was also the sound of someone screaming.

The weeping of women, the laughter of men.
