3 – But there is a price.

Pure white ceiling. Brightly shining lights, cool breeze coming from outside the window, and peaceful birdsong.

“-You’re awake!”

When he came to his senses again when he heard a woman’s voice, he was lying on a bed in the health room inside the academy.

“-What about the villain?”

As soon as he woke up, what he asked with a cracked voice was the whereabouts of the villain who had brought him to this point. There were many things I wanted to ask, but the most important thing was whether the boss who was to appear in the future would survive.

If his hardships had ended in nothing more than a struggle, if everything he had done was useless – he would have to act assuming that the world would proceed according to the game’s story from now on.

But-

“I was caught.”

“…hahahaha.”

I was caught. As soon as he realized that the situation was already settled with that one word, he laughed.

The original work was distorted.

The villain who appeared in the future leading a large army, was extremely picky and only fired artillery fire from a distance, and the boss who was supposed to take countless lives – was captured before the original work. Because of her, her life, which should have died, would now be able to survive, and the villains’ invasion would have difficulty because the information inside her academy was not counted.

He did not end his life as a mere mid-boss, and was still breathing. He, who was an extra, changed the dark future.

This was very good news for him. No matter how weak he was, even if he was an extra who couldn’t fight properly, the fact that he was able to change the future was an opportunity for him, who was disappointed in his incompetence and was engulfed in self-destruction, to fill his self-esteem.

“-Teacher. “How many days have I been asleep?”

“It’s a week.”

One week. If it was short, it was short, and if it was long, it was long enough. Apparently, the reason he was able to wake up even though his chest was pierced was because the academy’s health teacher miraculously saved him with her abilities.

“…Are you okay? “Your arm-“

But no matter how great the medical hero was, he couldn’t reattach the missing arm. In fact, the area where his right arm should be was empty, and the sleeve of his clothes was hanging limply.

“It’s okay.”

But even so, he still smiled.

Even before, his leg was damaged and he could not walk. Comparing losing the use of two of his legs to losing one of his arms, the latter was much better. Of course, it would be inconvenient either way – this was a world where prosthetic hands could be made, and an arm like this could be reattached at any time.

One arm was enough to pay for changing my fate. Didn’t he lose his life?

“What about the other kids?”

So, he decided to be satisfied with the fact that the results were good, and while enjoying the feeling of victory, he asked how others were doing.

His childhood friend Ji-hyeon, the main character in the game, and his classmates who were other heroines. And the hero teachers who taught them. Are they okay?

If it were normal, he would have asked that first, but only after he was relieved did he ask the teacher, who was looking at him and smiling broadly.

This was the order of questions I came up with after thinking about it in my own way. If even one of them had died or been seriously injured, there would be no way he would have laughed so heartily – he truly thought so.

“…Oh, you mean the other kids? Do you want to go see it?”

Knowing what kind of world this world is. Even though I already knew that it was a world where at least one person could die easily, I thought that with sincere relief.

“…Be careful. “It’s dangerous if you touch it wrongly.”

It was only when I went somewhere other than the hospital room that I realized that such a thought was truly foolish.

Beep, beep-

Intensive care unit with numerous medical machines. The sound of machinery coming from there. And numerous medical beds, and students whose eyes were not open, as if they were asleep.

He stood in front of his childhood friend, frozen and unable to say anything.

His entire body is wrapped in bandages. There was a respirator in his mouth and an IV in his arm. Apparently a week has passed, and the health teacher must have been very skilled, but the bandages are still red and stained with blood. Worst of all, he still hasn’t regained consciousness.

“All of them are slander. It was really dangerous. Still, you could say the situation is better than you losing an arm, but-“

He still stood there in vain, listening to the teacher’s words with one ear and letting them out of the other.

I desperately realized that the person who held onto the boss that would appear in the second half and hoped everyone would be safe was an asshole. And it was an added bonus that he realized that the expression on his teacher’s face until now was because he was relieved that he had regained consciousness.

Maybe it was a result that could be understood if you think about it a little.

She is the boss who hid her identity. She is one of the strongest villains in the game, in charge of a chapter. In the game’s story, she was noticed by the principal and he attacked her, wounding her, but that still didn’t change the fact that she was a boss that you would have encountered at the very end of the story.

But there is no way that the main character, who has not yet grown up properly, the heroines, and the childhood friend who is currently down – could fight that villain without getting hurt in any way.

Previously, since he had achieved his goal, he was destined to run away without looking back, but the battle began due to his childhood friend running in after he hurt him-

“…What about Teacher Kang Han-seong?”

“……”

A teacher who played an important role died, and other students and heroes were devastated.

It was literally a butterfly effect. The things she did to help her ended up putting her and everyone in even more danger. The moment he realized that fact, he gritted his teeth.

“Don’t make that face.”

How can I not make this look? If he had died in that place, the original story wouldn’t have been so distorted and his friends wouldn’t have been hurt like this. Or, if he had been a little stronger – we could have gotten through this crisis together, and there could have been a better ending.

“If it weren’t for you, if it weren’t for everyone – we might have missed the villain.”

Despite this, all that can be heard is a voice praising him as a hero.

Is this correct? Is it right that he is being praised despite the students, the heroes, and even the death of a teacher?

“When he becomes a hero, he has to go through a lot of things like this. “The damage is too great to be considered preventative, but take heart.”

Just because it is a world with heroes and villains, and because it is a world where heroes meet death like this, is it really right for this world to remain so indifferent?

“…Teacher, I’m going to go out for a little while, so you can go out whenever you want.”

No. Absolutely not. A world like this is by no means a right world.

I felt nauseous. The result of doing the right thing, the result of struggling to hold on to his life – turned his most precious childhood friend into unconsciousness. He was happy to have protected the lives of others, but he actually failed to protect those he was supposed to protect – no, there is no need to say that he failed to protect them.

In the end, he is just an extra.

He was just being protected, but it didn’t make sense for him to protect those who were stronger than him.

“…I’m sorry.”

He apologized. He bowed his head and apologized to his childhood friend, who could not even hear him yet, and cried, clenching his fists.

“I- what should I do now?”

And then, feeling helpless, he cried out. What should I do? No matter how much he thought, he couldn’t come up with an answer.

I was infinitely helpless. A mere extra had no power to change the future. I couldn’t help them, and I was lucky if I didn’t get in their way.

Clearly there is knowledge of the future. But that knowledge was of no use. Rather, I wonder if I ruined my work because of that knowledge.

However, there was no option to share one’s knowledge with others or those in power. The note that had been secretly passed to the protagonist and his party had already disappeared completely, and even if he tried to say it with his mouth, no words would physically come out.

Was it a penalty for him to be possessed by the world of the game? If he was going to give me a penalty like this, he would have rather given me the power. Even if I thought about it like that, it didn’t change anything. He had already been possessed, and he couldn’t even figure out why he was possessed.

But does that mean other villains are eliminated in advance? That is an impossible story.

I didn’t have enough strength to begin with, but as a student attending the academy, I wasn’t in a situation where I could move around as I pleased. However, this is not something that can be solved by dropping out. We live in a world where it is against the law for non-heroes to catch villains. In a world where it becomes a social problem if a hero kills a villain, he couldn’t even imagine what kind of punishment he would receive if a civilian caught the villain –

“…Ah.”

His eyes widened as thoughts passed through his mind.
