Time Traveling Hero

Chapter 50 - Hiro’s Hero Triumphs PT.12: Triumphs of New: A Hiro’s Excursion PT.4

"Master, is Master sure this a good idea?"

We were running around inside their base, the hallway lights flickering in and out due to us blowing up the main energy source that was fueling the base (they had backup generators, but they weren't meant for extended use).

I glanced over at Anna, who was looking at me as she voiced out that question. "Of course it's a good idea, it's all a part of the plan you know."

"That is not what Anna means," Anna said, stopping the both of us before she peered around the corner, motioning me forward. "Anna is wondering if it is a good idea for just us two to do such an important job."

I glanced around the corner with her before nodding, and we continued running along. "Well since I'm here and all, I have to pull my weight too; besides, this allows us more flexibility with the battle outside."

"But even so, Master cannot fight, and if we get overwhelmed-!"

"It's fine Anna, trust me. After all, when I have ever led you astray?" I asked, giving her my signature grin and thumbs up.

"This is Master's first mission, so Anna has no prior knowledge of such information. Stop."

We both hid behind a fallen piece of wall, watching soldiers run by ahead of us before they moved on.

"Exactly, so just keep on trusting me, and we'll be fine," I said, pulling out Nymphy to glance down at the map. "We should be almost there, just gotta turn right up here and then it should be a straight shot."

"Aye aye El Capitan," Anna said, and I scowled at her.

"That's a new one. When did you learn that?"

"My special friend taught me about it, but Anna likes Roger Dodger more."

"So you have more outdated ways to agree?"

"Yeppers."

I swear, this girl is truly strange at times. Whoever the previous Time Traveling Hero was sure must've been interesting, to say the least.

Well, not as if I'll be able to meet them.

"Master stop."

I was abruptly stopped by Anna's arm, almost causing me to fall over. Damn, what is that arm made of, titanium? Hell, how strong is she for her to just stop me like that?

Ugh, enough of that. I looked forward to see a circular metal door in our way, sealed by metal rods on the perimeter. I walked forward, knocking on the door before letting out a whistle.

"Damn that is thick. This must be it then. Just asking again, but are sure you can't just blast it open?" .

"Anna can do no such thing Master. The door is sealed shut not just by those metal rods but is also protected from energy blasts such as mine."

"Right, it can never be easy huh…" I murmured, looking at the lock mechanism. Unluckily for me, the mechanism was still activated. I guess they must have it run to a separate power source then.

"Well, looks like we'll just have to do this the old-fashioned way then," I said, grinning at Anna. "You ready?"

Anna nodded. "Configure Mode 2547."

She aimed her newly made cannon arm up towards the ceiling, a ball of yellow energy lighting up the dark hallway, the energy crackling around us.

"Fire."

The entire ceiling blew away, vaporizing as the energy beam pulsed up into the sky before it slowly vanished, and Anna let out a brief sigh before turning to me, offering me her non canonized arm.

"Let us go Master."

I wrapped my arm around her shoulders while she wrapped hers around my waist, and a pair of silver wings sprouted out of her back as she started to fly high up in the sky. I took this brief moment to survey the battlefield.

On the North and East Sides, the only remaining battle was the one by the Eastern side of the base, where squads 35 and 36 were having their dinosaur battle against Cyrene. There were only two squads left besides 36 and 36 on that side of the base, the fighting already over. I had asked Squads 20 and 21 to stay behind and make sure the captured wouldn't try anything funny.

The battlefield on the South and West side of the base was looking to be a bit more precarious. Even with the help of all the squads from the other side of the base, it still seems that it was a stalemate. It also didn't help that enemies kept on pouring out of the base, the main issue that I was trying to fix at the moment with Anna.

"Is Master ready?" I nodded turning my attention towards the task at hand. We were above the place we needed to go to, and I pulled out another grenade, glancing at Anna.

"On 3?"

"Right."

"One, two, three!" I pulled the pin out using my mouth, and I threw the grenade down towards roof of the base. Normally there would be an energy shield surrounding this portion of the base, since it was extremely important to the enemy, but since I took out their power source, it was left defenseless.

I watched Anna aim at the falling grenade, her cannon arm charging up another shot.

"Fire."

A ball of energy this time shot out, hitting the grenade square on, causing the entire ceiling to vaporize into nothingness, and together we floated down, finally reaching our objective.

I took a deep breath and sighed, glancing up at the swirling green portal that lay ahead of us. "Alright, let's get this over with quickly before-!"

I was suddenly thrown to my left as I felt something whizz past my ear, and I managed to land on all fours, frowning. "Thanks for that Anna. Although, this certainly wasn't expected…"

Standing by the swirling green portal was a big burly man with skin as tanned as sand, his entire body covered in a variety of weapons. He had a couple cigars in his mouth, and as he lowered the gun he just fired, he let out a cackle.

"Well, well, wasn' expectin' no visitors today, aye? Jus' who migh' you two be? Judgin' by th looks of yah, you ain' normal comba'an's huh? Lesse, one Model an' an unknown; ah." He grinned, showing off his yellowing teeth.

"You mus' be mis'er Hero."

"What are you, the gatekeeper or something like that?" I grumbled, and Anna got in front of me, glaring at the man.

"Master, please be careful. This man is as strong as one of our squadron leaders."

"Uh, aren't they pretty weak though?"

Anna shook her head. "No Master, that is just because Master has been around too many strong people. More importantly, he is a bad matchup with us, if Anna is thinking correctly…"

So, you're telling me both Roberto and Kimberly are actually pretty strong? Huh, maybe I have been around too many freakishly strong people lately…

"Enough 'alkin', wha're doin' here? You two 'ryin' to 'ake over our por'al?"

"Nah, just trying to shut it down; honestly, I wasn't expecting constant same turn enemy reinforcements during all phases you know. What difficulty is this, lunatic plus?"

"Ye' you sure are a Hero; you ac' as s'range as one anyway," the man mumbled before glaring at us. "I can' exac'ly le' you do wha' ye wan', so i' looks like I ge' 'o end your career early, 'specially since yousa don' go' tha' on yah jus' ye'."

Hmm, what's he talking about? Before I could reply, I got pushed down to the ground, dust starting to gather around as the impact blasts caused the remaining ceiling to creak and shudder.

"The names Gregory lad, as th' fine ga'ekee'er of this 'ere por'al, Isas swear tha' I won' le' yah pass!"

I sighed.

Well shit.

---------------------------

"Hmm, it's not this one either. I know it's modified to all hell, but there's gotta the base for it somewhere…"

"Is Master finished yet?"

I looked up to see a blast narrowly miss me, the entire room starting to shake again as dust fell from the ceiling. I watched as Anna skirted around the room, her feet turned into boosters for easier mobility. Gregory, who had just fired off his weapons, quickly replaced his blasters for automatic weapons and let out a cackle.

"Yah sure are a feis'y one lil' lady! If yah coul' jus' hol' s'ill, this coul' 'e much simpler, eh!?"

"Negative, Anna does not think it would be simpler for Anna; it would be simpler for you."

"Eh, de'ails, de'ails, who nee's em!?" If it was just the two arms holding his guns, there would be no problem. However…

I scowled as I saw 4 more mechanical arms, all of them coming off from his back, all of them being able to move as if they had a mind of their own. Oh, and all of them wielded a variety of guns, almost forgot about that.

I shook my head and looked back down at Nymphy. "You find anything yet?"

"Sorry Hiro, looks like I'll need a little bit more time!"

"Fuck."

I honestly didn't have time for this, especially since we're on a time limit here. We only have a couple more minutes before the next wave of enemies come pouring out of that portal, and if that happens it's pretty much game over for the two of us.

I watched Anna turn her arm into a gun, shooting off metal bullets towards Gregory, who simply blocked it with one of his spare arms, the rest of them still firing away.

"Oh, I think I found something! But, you're not gonna like it…"

"Doesn't matter, so long as it works!" I quickly glanced over the information before letting out a groan, collapsing on the ground right as a spray of bullets was about to hit me.

"Told yah you weren't gonna like it Hiro," Nymphy said, and I rolled my eyes.

"But doing it that way is such a pain in the ȧss! Ugh, fine, let's just get this over with. Hey Anna, I'm gonna need you to do something for me, got it?"

"Will it help us beat this guy?"

"If you do this, we can beat all the guys!"

"That is what Master would call an over-exaggeration, no?" Anna said, leaping back towards me as Gregory started to change his weapons.

"Seriously, when the hell did you get so sassy?" I grumbled, and Anna shrugged.

"When did Master stop being able to retort?"

This little son of a-! "I swear you're gonna get it when all this is over, you hear me? Now, here's what I need you to do…"

I whispered what I wanted, and her yellow eyes whirred towards Gregory. "If that is what Master wishes Anna to do, then Anna shall oblige."

I watched as Gregory loaded up three machine guns, all aimed at us. "Yousa 'one 'alkin' 'ow? I dunno wha' you're planning' bu' i' ain' gonna work, yah hear!?"

"Yeah whatever man. Listen, how about this? You go run back into the portal, and we'll watch it for you over here? Got it?"

He let out a laugh, puffing out smoke. "Yah're a funny one, aren' yah!? Bu' I can' le' yah do as yah please!"

I watched as his Machine guns started to whir to life, and I nodded at Anna. "Don't worry, I'll be done soon."

Anna walked forward before starting to get geared up for battle once again. "Very well, Anna will once again place her trust in Master Hiro!"

"Configure Mode 3701!"

A bright yellow shield formed in front of Anna, and I watched as the bullets started to rebound against them, causing them to scatter all over the room.

Anna started to run around the room once again, grabbing a grenade from off her belt and letting it cook for a little bit before throwing it at Gregory.

"Like tha'll do a thin'!" He yelled out, and the grenade exploded in front of him, and amidst the smoke I saw him move away slightly, his mechanical arms having taken the brunt of the explosion.

Anna repeated the same maneuver, throwing out another grenade.

"I 'old yah, tha' i' won' do a-!"

Anna and I had long covered our eyes as the flash grenade went off, much to Gregory's surprise.

"Argh!"

Now. I took a deep breath and looked towards him, his back finally facing me. Damnit, it looks like Nymphy was right after all.

I suddenly collapsed next to Anna, who frowned at me. "What happened Master?"

I grinned as I held up the bolts and screws holding up parts of his mechanical arms, dropping them in front of her. "We win."

"Wha, how da hell did yah do tha'!?" Gregory yelled out, but by that point Anna was already right in front of him.

"See you later, Alligator."

Her fist caved in his face as he was sent flying back into the portal, letting out a ferocious yell before vanishing back to his own time period.

"So what now Master?" Anna asked, but I was already in front of the control panel, looking through all the buŧŧons.

"Ugh, can't be bothered right now. Anna, just punch this thing off!"

Anna walked up next to me and slammed her fist downward, breaking the circuitry inside, and we both watched the portal vanish.

"Well, that was easier said than done," I grumbled, looking Anna up and down. "You're not hurt are you?"

"No, Master dealt with the problem adequately enough so that Anna is unharmed." Anna said, brushing the dust off her uniform before looking up at the afternoon sky.

"Oh right, I know. We've still got more work to do. Damn, all this work sure as hell isn't worth it just for one Triumph. This should count for at least 2." Suddenly, my Nymphy went off, and I cracked my knuckles before answering it.

"Yeah, what seems to be the problem now? What, how the hell did that happen!? Ugh, I stop giving orders for 10 minutes, and this happens. Okay, listen to me, I'll be there in 5 minutes tops."

"Ready to go Master?" I watched her extend her wings, offering her hand to me.

"As ready as I'll ever be."

And thus continued his hard fought Triumph.
