Chapter 23

Previously, when being taken away by Barn and Klet did not come to rescue him, Shen Siwei soon realized that something was wrong with knock.

Knock and klet had been neighbors for many years, so it was impossible for him not to have klet’s contact information. If he had contacted klet in time, Barn wouldn’t have had the chance to take Shen Siwei to the strip club and would have probably been stopped by klet along the way.

However, klet only learned that Shen Siwei had been taken after returning home, which indicated that knock hadn’t informed him about it at all.

If it was just a matter of not wanting to get involved in other’s business, it would have been fine but this clearly involved someone’s safety. How could a normal person ignore it?

After much thought, Shen Siwei could only come to one conclusion—knock was not on klet’s side.

Knock and klet had known each other for so long, and no matter how you looked at it, knock didn’t seem like someone to be on Barn’s side. So his reasons were questionable.

Ever since Shen Siwei came to the lower levels, there were two forces that had tried to harm him. One was Barn, who was openly hostile, and the other was a hidden force that had been trying to kill Shen Siwei.

Previously, Moran and Shen Siwei speculated that some criminals might just be stirring up trouble.

But after learning about Avis’s position, everything made sense.

When they left the strip club, Shen Siwei had considered exposing knock who was following him. However, he questioned why a twelve or thirteen-year-old boy get involved in such conflicts? And ignored it

Shen Siwei usually didn’t hesitate to act against enemies, but looking at knock’s poor tracking skills, he couldn’t bring himself to harm the boy.

Knock was too clumsy; he didn’t have the ability to track Shen Siwei at all.

During the incident at the strip club, Shen Siwei hadn’t seen anyone on the road, so knock was probably just lurking outside the club when everything was going down.

Back at the incident, klet held Malken’s arm and said, “Don’t shoot!”

At the same time, almost instinctively, Shen Siwei used his last bit of strength to rush forward and hold knock in his arms, avoiding Malken’s gun.

Malken stopped himself from pulling the trigger just in time, and Avis, on the other side, stopped his action of pulling out the pin since knock’s life was no longer threatened.

With the crisis narrowly averted, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, except for Shen Siwei, who knelt on the ground, panting heavily.

“Negotiator brother,” knock, that little brat, had a bit of conscience. He immediately dropped his gun and supported Shen Siwei’s arm. But before he could help Shen Siwei up, klet took big steps forward and pressed the metal mask on Shen Siwei’s face.

Fresh oxygen rushed into his nose, relieving the suffocation. Seeing that Shen Siwei was fine, knock ran to the coffee table, wanting to move the dining table that was pressing on Avis.

But as soon as he exerted force, Avis let out a painful “hiss.”

“klet,” knock called out, “help my brother quickly, I’ll tell you anything you want to know.”

“knock!” Avis scolded.

“Brother,” knock said anxiously, “I’ve said before that klet is a good person. He even saved you. Why don’t you believe it?”

Shen Siwei observed this sibling drama and realized that Avis had a crush on klet.

“Feeling better?” klet asked Shen Siwei.

Shen Siwei temporarily didn’t have the strength to speak and could only nod.

Malken, standing by the door, noticed that klet had no intention of moving, so he reluctantly walked to the coffee table and helped knock move the dining table.

knock supported Avis and sat him down on the sofa, while Avis kept clutching his side, indicating that he had a broken rib.

” Now Speak up.” Malken crossed his arms in front of his chest and questioned,” How are you two related?”

Shen Siwei  understood why klet didn’t want to help knock.

Both of these people were like family to him, and anyone would feel betrayed in such a situation.

“We…” knock pursed his lips and secretly glanced at Avis, whispering, “We are members of the ‘Night Warbler.'”

“Night Hawk?” Malken was somewhat surprised. “That terrorist organization?”

Upon hearing the familiar term, Shen Siwei’s heart skipped a beat, and some fragmented memories appeared in his mind.

But fearing a significant fluctuation in his brainwaves, he calmed his mind and continued listening to the conversation between Malken and knock.

“Not the hawk of the night, but the warbler of the bird,” knock explained. ” we are the second generation of Night Warblers. We don’t harm civilians.”

Shen Siwei slowly recalled that he was actually very familiar with the Night Warblers. It was an outright terrorist organization that carried out numerous acts of terror due to their dissatisfaction with Mage rule.

Shen Siwei himself had participated in many operations to suppress the Night Warblers. However, in his memory, there seemed to be no concept of a second generation of Night Warblers.

Malken asked the question in his mind, “What do you mean? Have you changed your ways?””No,” Aviis finally spoke up, “It’s a different group of people. The old Night Hawk is already dead, and we are the new Night Oriole.”

“So, it was you at the Crystalton Hotel last time,” klet continued, “On the way here, I had Malken investigate your background, and the reason you were exiled wasn’t for theft as you claimed.”

“Yes,” Avis didn’t defend himself, “Originally, at the first self-service hotel, I wanted to take action, but I discovered that Malken had tampered with the hotel surveillance. You were under constant surveillance, so I had to give up. Then at the Crystalton Hotel, I finally found an opportunity, but you were staying next door, and it didn’t work out. After that, he moved into your house, either guarded or disappeared—of course, I later found out that he was on your bed—so I never had a chance to take action.”

Upon hearing this, Shen Siwei became even more certain that Avis and knock weren’t aware of his true strength.

The first attack should have taken place in the industrial area outside the city. At that time, all four of those people were taken care of by Shen Siwei and never had a chance to report back.

Later, at the Crystalton Hotel, Avis was also unaware of why Shen Siwei didn’t die and believed that klet had come to save him in time

Avis then finally seized the opportunity this time but thought that shooting would be enough to take care of Shen Siwei.

“So, what makes you different from the old Night Hawk?” Malken asked curiously, “The negotiator didn’t provoke you, and yet you wanted to kill him .”

“Because only when he dies will the military drive the refugees out!”

“Well, think about what happened earlier. The negotiator knew to protect this knock. Are you still going to kill him even after that?”

Avis pursed his lips and turned away, not speaking anymore.

“I think you guys are just terrorists,” Malken insisted, not relenting, “Everyone has a head and shoulders to bear their own debts. You can’t just randomly take revenge on someone.”

“Malken, Night Oriole is truly not a terrorist organization,” knock said, standing in front of him, unable to help but argue, “We are different from the old Night Hawk. The old Night Hawk disbanded twenty years ago, and we are the new Night Oriole.”

Shen Siwei stared blankly, his gaze empty, as all his attention focused on the four words, “twenty years ago.”

He seemed to have remembered why he encountered the explosion.

Moran had arranged some people to monitor near Sara’s residence, which resulted in the operation being exposed and targeted by the Night Hawk.

On that rainy night, the operation team encountered an ambush by the Night Hawk. Due to insufficient firepower, the team suffered heavy casualties. Shen Siwei vaguely remembered that he and Laizhe were forced to a rooftop, and he jumped off to protect Laizhe but couldn’t escape the bomb…

What mission were they actually on?

Shen Siwei knew he couldn’t think about it anymore, or it would raise Moran’s suspicions. Just then, someone snapped their fingers in front of him. Malken, who had switched positions with klet at some point, came to Shen Siwei’s side and asked, “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” Shen Siwei shook his head, but he noticed that klet, who had been ignoring Avis earlier, was now engaged in a conversation with him.

“What is your purpose, to free the Tree of Life?” klet asked.

“or, is it to attack the top level?,” Avis was still holding his waist where he hurt himself,

“I can help you,” klet offered.

“How can you help?” Avis asked.

“Have your leader contact me, and I’ll talk to him.”

Upon hearing this, Shen Siwei was surprised.

There were three factions in the room: the Marg people, the refugees, and the Night Oriole. How did it suddenly come to the point where two factions were forming an alliance?

“Hey,” Shen Siwei voiced his displeasure, “I’m still here, you know?”

klet turned to Shen. “You can leave.”

Shen Siwei: “…”

“ I should leave,” Evis stood up in pain, “I’ll ask our leader first.”

Knock helped Avis walk out the house slowly.

After they had gone a distance, Avis finally activated the communicator and endured the pain as he said, “Laizhe, I have a situation here”
