Chen Xing felt the force of Gu Lang’s touch on the top of his head, and his heart began to beat uncontrollably. In the quiet room, the sound was so obvious.

Chen Xing just stared at Gu Lang foolishly, unexpectedly unable to say anything for a while.

It was only when Gu Lang suddenly let out a soft laugh that Chen Xing suddenly came back to his senses and shyly lowered his head as he began to spit on himself for staring at Gu Lang’s naive behavior. How could he have acted so stupid just now? He was like a silly person who had never seen the world before.

Looking at Chen Xing’s secretly upset look, Gu Lang’s gaze was full of pampering. She didn’t do anything to make him uncomfortable but he just stared at him and said softly, “Alright, let’s get ready to start.”

Hearing Gu Lang’s words, Chen Xing hurriedly responded, “Ah, okay, let us begin.”

After saying that, he took the initiative and ran to the writing desk then he stared at the blank white paper on the top with flashing eyes, in a ready to learn position.

Gu Lang looked at Chen Xing as he immediately ran away, and inexplicably felt that he was a bit cute, so he put his hand against the corner of his lips to prevent himself from laughing again, otherwise Chen Xing would definitely become annoyed and shy again, so he better stop teasing him.

After adjusting his mood, Gu Lang walked over to Chen Xing with a straight face, picked up the book he had just put on the table and said to him, “Okay, let’s start studying.”

Chen Xing was still a little embarrassed by Gu Lang, but he was not as embarrassed as he had been earlier. Hearing his words, he nodded gently and waited for him to give his lesson.

Gu Lang picked up the book and put it in front of Chen Xing’s face, flipping it open so that Chen Xing could read the text inside, and then pointed to the first one and said, “This book is used by the aristocratic families to enlighten or impart rudimentary knowledge to beginners their children. It is the most suitable teaching material for people like you who do not have much foundation. Later on, I will teach you a word and you will write a word on the paper. Today we will only learn five words, and when you have learnt them all, we will learn more next time.”

Gu Lang’s voice was like a gentle breeze going against the leaves, which calmed down Chen Xing’s originally restless heart. He nodded at Gu Lang and replied softly, “Hn.”

Gu Lang looked at Chen Xing who was ready and hooked his lips, “Then let’s begin ba. Look, this word recognises ‘I’, this word means…, it is like this because…”

Gu Lang used a gentle tone of voice as he began to explain the meaning of the word to Chen Xing. At first, Chen Xing was a little uncomfortable with the close proximity between them but as Gu Lang’s story became more and more exciting, he then became more and more immersed in it, and even listened with great interest.

Waiting until Gu Lang finished the story, Gu Lang looked at Chen Xing who seemed to be a bit lost in the story; since he could not come back to his senses for quite a long time, Gu Lang reached out and flicked his forehead. He said gently the moment Chen Xing’s pain expression showed up on his face, “Do you understand now?”

Chen Xing covered his forehead, which was a little painful, and felt that Gu Lang was treating him like a child. He had told him a bedtime story in one word so if he didn’t understand, then he would be sorry for Gu Lang’s ‘good intentions and diligent work”.

Thereupon, Chen Xing looked at Gu Lang and nodded his head, saying in a small voice, “I understand.”

Gu Lang looked at him with a light smile in his eyes, and when he looked at his puffy face, the smile on his face became even stronger, “Okay, let’s write a word.”

Chen Xing looked at him and nodded, took a deep breath, picked up the writing brush on the table. He looked solemn and held the writing brush in an upright position.

Chen Xing slowly compared the words he had just learnt and began to write them out on the paper, one by one. However, when he finished writing with confidence, a big 囧 character appeared on his originally solemn face when he looked at the horizontal and vertical writing on the paper.

Gu Lang looked at the words on the paper, which looked as if they were written by a three-year-old child, then he looked at Chen Xing whose face was as if ‘nothing left to live for’. He finally couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Hearing that laughter sound, Chen Xing’s body stiffened for a moment, and then his ears uncontrollably turned red.

Gu Lang stared at the tips of Chen Xing’s ears, which were turning red, and felt the urge to try it out, but he soon restrained himself from doing so, thinking that if he did, Chen Xing’s ears would not be the only place that would turn red.

Gu Lang coughed, pretending not to notice as he helped him straighten out his wrong and said, “You are a beginner, and the brush is soft. It’s not easy to control, so it’s already good that you can write it like this.”

Chen Xing listened to Gu Lang’s tone as if he was coaxing a child and squinted at him for a moment. His eyes were hidden bitterness with suspicion.

When Gu Lang received his gaze, he shifted his gaze uncomfortably and tried to change the subject, “Besides, it’s the first time you started practicing, and the order of your writing is not correct, so it’s normal that you can’t write well.”

Hearing Gu Lang say this, Chen Xing was a little surprised, not expecting that in their era, such things as strokes of writing Chinese characters had already been developed.

Just when Chen Xing wanted to ask him how he could write well, he saw Gu Lang walking behind him slowly as he held his hand extremely naturally.

Chen Xing stiffened for a moment, feeling Gu Lang’s warm breath spraying on the back of his neck, a kind of numbness spreading directly from there and then stretching to his whole body, causing his whole body to start burning up.

As if Gu Lang did not notice his stiffness, he tugged his hand to hold the writing brush and said warmly in his ear, “Watch it carefully, how I write the word.”

Listening to the voice coming from his ears, Chen Xing, although still a little uncomfortable, reluctantly lifted his spirit up and followed Gu Lang’s writing steps, memorizing the steps he had taught him in writing, stroke by stroke.

The afternoon sunlight poured in through the window and shone on the patch of floor in front of them, illuminating the whole room with a warm, warm sunny hue.

By the time Gu Lang let go of Chen Xing’s hand, Chen Xing had not even recovered from the warm atmosphere he had just experienced, and he stared at the beautiful calligraphic style fonts that he had written with Gu Lang’s cooperation, his whole body was a little numb.

Looking at Chen Xing’s appearance, Gu Lang whispered in his ear and asked, “Are you able to write it now?”

Only when he heard this sound did Chen Xing suddenly seem to come back from some kind of dream and nodded somewhat shyly.

“Then you write it again yourself?”

Chen Xing nodded and wrote it again as he had taught him. The result of his writing was indeed much better than what he had just done before.

“You’ve done it very well.”
