In recent decades, Europe’s major powers have remained largely peaceful, despite constant friction.

Countries also seem to know that if war breaks out, it will be a war of great scale. For all countries, it will have a huge impact. Even if the war is won, it will pay a great price.

Therefore, countries are also trying to avoid the outbreak of war.

Now, the Russian Empire has used force against the Kingdom of Bulgaria, which undoubtedly breaks the tacit understanding and balance between countries and directly pushes countries to the precipice of war!

This made the countries for a while, although the clamor was very strong. But it’s not so easy to get them to take factual action.

Austria-Hungary began to order troops to prepare for battle and began to assemble on the border.

However, because Austria-Hungary and the Bulgarian kingdom do not now border. Therefore, if they wanted to send troops into the Kingdom of Bulgaria, they had to pass through the territory of the Kingdom of Servia or the Kingdom of Romania.

At the same time, Austria-Hungary knew perfectly well that the Russian Empire was a formidable enemy. If they wanted to fight the Russian Empire and defeat it, it would not be so easy.

This led Austria-Hungary to immediately order the ambassador to the Germanic Empire to contact the Germanic side and request the support of the Germanic Empire. If the Germanic Empire could send troops to help them, it would be the best.

However, this takes time.

The Ottoman Empire also felt an imminent threat.

The Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II ordered troops to begin to assemble in the Rumilia region to prepare for the defense of the Russian Empire.

Of course, given that in the last ten wars with the Russian Empire, the Ottoman Empire has mostly lost badly. Now, the Ottoman Empire is even weaker and has been completely suppressed by the Russian Empire. So much so that the Ottoman Empire simply did not have the courage to continue to contend with the Russian Empire. Without the support of other countries, as long as the Russian Empire did not take the initiative to invade the Ottoman Empire, the Ottoman Empire would not dare to easily provoke war.

Under such circumstances, the Kingdom of Bulgaria immediately appealed to Austria-Hungary for help. However, they have been slow to get help.

And the elite troops of the Tsarist Empire are already rapidly approaching Sophia.

From Varna to Sofia, it is about four hundred kilometers.

For infantry, it takes at least half a month just to rush.

Fortunately, however, the 1st Cavalry Brigade was very fast. While the infantry was still slowly rushing, the 1st Cavalry Brigade reached the city of Sofia in only three days.

Although, the Kingdom of Bulgaria has already gathered tens of thousands of people here. The 1st Cavalry Brigade consisted of just over 9,000 men.

However, they still took the initiative to attack.

The 1st Cavalry Brigade of the Imperial Russian Army set up 24 75-mm field guns and opened heavy fire.

The army of the Kingdom of Bulgaria, although it was numerous and powerful, could only defend and did not dare to take the initiative to attack at all.

After all, cavalry, in this era, not only maneuvers fast. At the same time, it also has a strong impact. In the field, the infantry is not an opponent of the cavalry at all.

The army of the Kingdom of Bulgaria, in particular, was poorly equipped. Not to mention the Maxim heavy machine gun, there are not even many artillery.

In such a situation, they were not at all opponents of the 1st Cavalry Brigade of the Tsarist Imperial Army.

If you stick to the city, you may be able to resist it by relying on the absolute superiority in troops.

At least, they would not have problems until the main infantry of the Tsarist Imperial Army arrived.

But the biggest problem was that King Ferdinand I of Bulgaria was also terrified.

With Austro-Hungarian reinforcements delayed, he feared that he had been abandoned and had become an outcast.

So, on the night of July 24, Ferdinand I, under the protection of the Guards, fled Sofia with a cadre of high-ranking officials of the kingdom.

They crossed the border directly west and entered the Kingdom of Servia.

Then, through the Kingdom of Serbia, he went to Austria-Hungary.

At this moment, even the king and the top fled, which immediately caused the morale of the army of the Bulgarian kingdom to plummet. The soldiers’ will to fight was even more devastating.

Under such circumstances, they no longer had the courage to continue fighting the army of the Tsarist Empire.

Thus, the next afternoon, a large number of troops of the Kingdom of Bulgaria went out of the city to surrender.

They don’t want to lose their lives in the next battle.

The generals and officers of the Bulgarian kingdom in the city, seeing that the general trend has passed, if they continue to resist, they will surely die.

Therefore, they all led their troops out of the city to surrender.

This greatly surprised the front-line generals of the Tsarist Empire, who actually used only one cavalry brigade to defeat the capital of the Bulgarian kingdom.

Subsequently, Admiral Gurko quickly changed the battle plan and allowed the remaining infantry divisions to march to other cities in the Bulgarian kingdom, completing the occupation of the entire Bulgarian kingdom in a short time.

By the end of July, the Russian Empire’s military campaign had achieved a complete victory, completing the annexation of the Kingdom of Bulgaria by force.
