Underworld God

Chapter 1 - Rebirth

"So I died."

I found myself in a plain and empty white room. I had just died before arriving here, wherever here was.

I had lived a relatively good life. Born as James Carter, I was the firstborn son of a salaryman and a secondary school teacher. As the oldest among 5 children, I learned early on the responsibilities of taking care of those depending on you and raising children. It was a must for me. After all, there was a 17 year gap between me and my youngest sibling. Not to mention how my parents had a habit of coming home late from work.

I couldn't blame the, no matter how much I may have wanted to. They did their best so that they could put food on the table and a roof over our heads, although I did come to question why they had to have so many kids.

Anyway, feeling it to be what I should do, I strived to get a well-paying job so that I could reduce the pressure on my parents' shoulders. That way, my younger siblings could actually have their parents around as they grow up. Lord knows I would have appreciated some of that.

But fate had other plans. On my way to my first interview, I was kidnapped by what I could only refer to as cultists wearing blood red hoods and black sandals. They stripped me and tied me to an x-shaped cross. They then covered my body in what appeared to be blood and began chanting around me. They kept chanting 'Lord of Chaos protect us, for the Abyss is dark and full of terror'. They kept chanting over and over again. As they chanted, I could feel a pressure descending on me, getting stronger by the second. I screamed out in fear, calling out for home, for my parents, for anything to come and save me. The pressure began to choke me and squeeze my lungs.

Before it could get any worse, a woman stood out from the cultists around me and stabbed me straight in the heart. The last thing I saw as I bled to death was the look of manic glee on my killer's face as she licked my blood off her blade

All of a sudden, a lottery wheel appeared before me, and a message related to it popped into my head.

[WELCOME MORTAL. DUE TO THE CIRC.U.MSTANCES SURROUNDING YOUR DEATH, YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE REINCARNATION WHEEL OF FORTUNE. SPIN TO DETERMINE YOUR NEW WORLD AND YOUR NEW IDENTITY.]

'Okay. I died. Now I'm being reincarnated. Nothing terrifying about this at all (AAHHH!!!). Absolutely normal.'

With shaky fingers, I spun the wheel to determine my new world and watched as it went round and round, praying to whatever being brought me here that it would end up somewhere good. When it slowed down, I felt thunder strike in my head due to the result.

[Riordanverse]

'Oh shit. Oh f.u.c.k. This is bad. Very, VERY bad. Everything is real here. Olympus, Asgard, Heaven, it's all real. I'm so screwed. So f.u.c.k.e.d. So very, very f.u.c.k.e.d.'

I spun the wheel once more, this time to determine my new identity. It seemed that there was hope for me after all.

[Olympian God Hades]

The God of the Underworld, the Dead, Wealth and later all that lies beneath the Earth. One of the Big Three. The Rich One. The Silent One. The Hospitable One. Edgelord supreme and lord of shadows.

This has potential. So much potential. A god in Percy Jackson? A god that knows the future? There are so many ways for me to abuse this.

Before I could truly get deeper into my thoughts a table materialized in front of me with a pen and paper on top.

[YOU MAY CHOOSE 5 WISHES. AS LONG AS THEY ARE WITHIN CERTAIN LIMITS, THEY WILL BE GRANTED.]

'Sweet. Now I'm gonna be seriously broken.'

1) The domains of the gods Thanatos (Primeval God of Death) and Erebos (Primeval God of Darkness)

2) To control the Fates

3) The power of the strongest being in existence

4) A spear that can kill all gods

5) Immunity to the ancient laws

[NUMBERS 3 AND 4 GO BEYOND ALLOWED LIMITS. PLEASE CHOOSE SOMETHING ELSE.]

'Damn. Here I thought I could simply become the greatest without work. Guess I'll have to work for it.

3) The potential and growth to become the strongest being in existence.

4) A spear tied to my soul that gets permanently stronger the longer it rests in my soul.

As soon as I put down the pen everything began to twist and distort around me as a message played in my head.

[THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE REINCARNATION WHEEL OF FORTUNE. ENJOY YOUR NEW LIFE.]

**********

When he opened his eyes, he found himself in a vast plain of red stone, the air filled with smoking ash and wailing souls. He was sat upon a throne of bones wearing white robes and a black helm.

"So it was all real. I'm now Hades."

Balling his hand into a fist, he could feel the sheer power coursing through his veins as his golden ichor rushed inside him. Reaching out, he could feel the power he had over the shadows, the authority over the dead souls. It gave him a rush like no other.

He was a god. A powerful god. There was nothing better than that.

His mind was assaulted by a barrage of memories that were not his own. He could remember being swallowed by his father Kronos after he was born and the distinct cries of his mother as he disappeared into his father's mouth. He could remember growing up in Kronos' stomach, how he couldn't get along with any of his siblings beside Heatia. How Zeus tricked his father into vomiting them all out and the ensuing battles to overthrow the Titans.

He could remember how before a crying Rhea they all agreed to follow Zeus into battle, how he and his brothers pretty much divided up the world after toppling the Titans, how easy it felt to sneak into Tartarus and free the Hundred-Handed Ones and the Elder Cyclopes.

He could remember every moment, every second as if it was all happening right now. It was like watching a motion picture in his own head.

According to his memories, it hadn't been that long since Zeus had been crowned king on Olympus. It was a marvelous spectacle in the new Royal Palace atop Mount Olympus. There were many gods and spirits attending, yet they were all distinctly afraid of him, either due to being Lord of the Underworld or because of the Helm of Darkness inspiring that fear.

"Now that I've got the memories out of the way, time to check the outcome of my wishes."

Hades sat down on the floor and closed his eyes. He began to look into himself, more specifically into his soul. After coming upon his immortal soul, he looked into its depths and saw a black spear slowly growing inside. With a thought, he willed it into his hands. Its surface was a black so dark it literally swallowed the light around it. Given by its feel, it seemed to be made of metal. It had a good weight and was balanced perfectly in his hand. He recalled it back into his soul after a few practice stabs.

"Seems like spear fighting is on my to-do list. Time for the real important stuff now. FATES!!!"

Almost instantly, the three fates appeared in front of him. All three of them were confused and clearly ha their guards up

"Hades. How are you able to control us!?" Given by the shears in her hands, Hades knew that it was Atropos speaking.

"Silence," Hades said. "How this came to be is of no concern of yours. All you need to know is that from now on, you will do as I say. You will make no mention of this to anyone in any way, shape or form. No ambiguous signs, no vague prophecies, none of it. As long as it pertains to speaking about this arrangement of ours, it is forbidden to you."

They all visibly bristled at that, becoming uncomfortable where they stood. Lachesis tried to speak, but she found she was unable to do so due to the order to stay silent.

"Furthermore, you will have no control at all over my fate. I am the master of my own fate, not you or anyone else. You will not make any attempt to harm me in any way at all. When there is no one else around, you are to serve me and me alone."

"Anything else, my lord?" Clotho asked through gritted teeth. Lachesis seems to have become Stannis Baratheon with the way she was grinding and gnashing her teeth.

"No, that will be all," Hades said. "Now leave." With a single hand gesture, they were kicked out of the underworld.

"Hehe...hehehehe....heheheh hahahahahahah HUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

Hades tried and failed to contain his laughter. He was now a Greek God who was also the master of the Fates with knowledge of the future and a spear that could grow to kill everything alive.

Did he not have the right to laugh?
