Unexpected Return

Chapter 16 - Class assignment tests

Today was the test to see which class students would be assigned too. Erik was up and about early wearing his white uniform and Akaiittou at his waist, Walking around the centre that students very fittingly called the `The park`. It was cold but he wore nothing over his uniform except a red scarf, not that he wasn't cold. Erik just didn't like wearing coats since he felt they were more of a hindrance than a help, although a scarf probably didn't help much on their own he felt it was better than nothing.

He walked around aimlessly until it was finally time.

The test was held in a different building for each part of the test. The first test was a knowledge test, Erik wasn't confident that he knew everything but believed he could probably do well. Walking into the test room, he saw there were already a lot of people here. Looking around Erik found a seat at the back and lay on top of the desk while waiting for the test to begin.

30 minutes later the test was finally about to begin. Lifting his head up Erik saw every seat was taken, he saw Mary but they hadn't spoken since yesterday before she ditched him so Erik didn't try to get her attention. Before long a teacher came in and everyone was handed a tablet that had the single purpose of being used for tests.

As the test started Erik quickly looked through the questions, noticing there were a few technical magic questions he knew he would have to skip those. He easily answered the ones about fighting and while he wasn't confident in his tactical skills he had enough lessons to know the basics at the very least. He had the easiest time with the questions that asked about types of magic. Things such as maths and language he was about average. He didn't really care about failing but he would still try.

The Knowledge test finally came to an end, and the students finally gave a refreshed sigh. Sitting for 2 hours on an uncomfortable chair is no one's view of a past time so they were all relieved that it was over. Next, there would be a 30-minute break before the next test.

Erik was on his way out when Mary saw him. He didn't realise and kept walking, and left the room. Mary quickly chased after him. Only after a while did Erik notice someone was following him, turning around he saw it was Mary who was wearing a similar uniform to his but with a skirt instead with leggings underneath.

"So how may I help you miss Báthory?" he asked with an indifferent face. Erik wasn't really mad but felt he shouldn't be too easy on her.

"What's wrong with you? I looked everywhere for you yesterday but couldn't find you" Mary complained.

"Well, I was where you left me no?" Erik stated while thinking there was no way someone could be this clueless.

Realising what he meant Mary quickly thought back about how she had left without even warning him.

"I'm sorry I thought you deserved it for not paying attention but I was going to wait outside for you" She hurriedly tried to explain herself.

Erik felt that he may have taken this a bit far. He wondered how she even forgot about such a thing.

"You know it's not that serious but I thought we were friends, who gives a shit if I deserved it, honestly I'm a bit disappointed if you can ditch me for such a petty reason I don't dare assume what would happen in a fight. Whatever let's just forget about it." Although he said that Erik started thinking about what he himself had just said. He wondered if she would really ditch him in a fight if she had enough reason too.

Mary felt extremely hurt he had said such a thing while she understood why he was mad she didn't think she deserved that amount of distrust for it. Hearing that they should forget about it she just slightly nodded.

Though there was still a slightly awkward atmosphere the two quickly made up and went back to their normal selves

Soon it was time for the second test. This test was all about magic, whoever could do the strongest magic no matter the type would get a high score. Erik found this unfair since some people inherit powerful bloodline magic, he assumed that this was purposefully made for Ancient families and those slightly inferior families.

One by one the students did their magic, some used normal elemental magic, some used pure magic to attack and finally there those who used their bloodline magic such as one student who could literally make things explode with his magic.

When it was finally Erik's turn he was still thinking about what magic to use. Most of his magic had low damage and focused more on assisting him. In the end, he decided to just use armament by making a huge red sword and crashing it on the test field which covered the place in dust.

Looking around at his fellow students' faces, it seems he may have overdone it. Since he couldn't change the results he could only sigh. 3 People later it was Mary's turn.

Mary cut her wrist which caused her to bleed, then the blood started floating in front of her and as more and more blood gathered the bigger the ball of blood became. Erik wasn't sure how this type of blood magic worked, he was slightly worried Mary would use up all her blood.

A big ball of blood now floated above her head and it slowly transformed into a large sword similar to Erik's even the colour was the same except his was made from prana and Mary's was made with her own blood.

When the sword crashed down it caused a similar scene to when Erik did his. Erik knew that Mary's blood magic was more versatile than his armament so he couldn't help but question her choice of copying him.

The test finished after 3hours since there was a lot of people to be tested. This time the break lasted for an hour because the third test was a bit special. The people with the best results would be called out and would essentially pass but the other students have a chance to duel them and if they win they take their spot.

Erik thought these tests made no sense, what's the point of being smart if you can just get there by pure force. Although this made it easier for him he thought the rules for this test were made by idiots.

The third tests test zone was, of course, an arena. The teacher stood on the arena waiting for all the students to arrive. The teacher is a woman with black hair and eye's, Erik thought she probably looks similar to Raylee without her glasses.

" Alright settle down!" The teacher shouted then didn't say anything until there was silence.

"Ok you can me Teacher or Miss Massey and I'm in charge of this test for today. I'll now read out the names that passed.." She pulled out a tablet and started reciting names.

"Agnes Evilian, Elise Woodstem, Mary Báthory, Jacob Reave, Yalameu Miralue…" The teacher was in fact actually Raylee's relative, Erik said they looked similar but he never expected such a thing. He, however, put that to the back of his mind when he heard a strange name.

Yalameu Muralue was strange no matter how much you heard it, Erik looked at the students going up to the arena. Agnes had black wavy hair and silver eyes, she wore a black witches hat and cloak over her uniform. Elise was the girl Mary had spoken too during the assembly and Jacob had black long messy hair that dragged on the floor and big bags under his eyes almost as if he's never actually slept before. And finally, Yalameu Muralue was a girl with light green hair and eyes and had pointy ears. `She actually an Elf holy shit` Erik can't help but be surprised since Elves live on a country far away from Oreron.

"...Erik Grimes, Louis Kergravé That's all 7 names, in a minute those of you with scores closest to them will be able to challenge them for their place. Before that let me explain the benefits of getting assigned to the top class. Firstly since there is only 7 of you the teacher is freer to help you, secondly you don't have to attend all classes but must still attend the minimum of 2 a day and if your scores start getting low you'll be forced to attend and may even lose your position.." She waited for all that to sink in before continuing " Lastly you'll be allowed to participate in the `Young Dragons` Tournament as a second year"

After she said that everyone started cheering, Erik who was now on the arena had never heard of such a tournament but looking over at Mary he saw she was excited as well. He couldn't figure out how he had never heard of such an event, he decided to just ask Mary later.
