Unfortunate Romance

Chapter 15 - The Past and Present Collide

Ming Wenxin held up a white box. "I bought macarons." She settled the box into the table and lounged on the couch. "Have you eaten?"

Feng Ting nodded. "En." Ming Wenxin briefly frowned. She handed a cookie to Feng Ting and the two settled into a comfortable atmosphere. "Xiao Qi, are you adjusting well?"

Feng Ting nodded. "This apartment is perfect. Japan was quite a nice country. It's pretty well developed in the field of technology. Although it's not as advanced here, I managed to get by." She beamed. "I managed to recreate WINTER completely."

A soft laugh from Ming Wenxin. "As expected." Xiao Qi was the most talented and precious of all of them.

WINTER was an advanced artificial intelligence system that took Feng Ting 5 years to develop in the past. The A.I. was one of the greatest tools that allowed the Organization to grow in power, skyrocketing them to an apex predator.

And it was made again in less than half the time. Only 2 years to recreate a weapon that could change the world.

Ming Wenxin ruffled her hair affectionately. "What are your future plans?" She knew that Feng Ting had a degree in music. She also drew a manga in her free time during the past two years. Actually, she would succeed in any field she chose really. Ming Wenxin would support whatever road Feng Ting chooses.

"Zheng Yi." Feng Ting scratched her head. "I'll probably expand it?"

Ming Wenxin paused. "Zheng Yi is yours?" The company started roughly more than a year ago. Despite being a newcomer, it had taken a sizable chunk in the gaming industry. However, it was quite secretive. The shareholders were practically unknown, and the CEO was extremely low-key. Not to mention it was that disobedient girl. "Are you planning to take the technology industry?"

Feng Ting shrugged, toying with the cookie in her hand. "I just want a normal life this time. Although my identity now is troublesome, I'll just slowly develop my cards. I really doubt it's necessary here though. This world is quite peaceful compared to ours."

"Whatever you want." Ming Wenxin bit into a macaron. "I have developed my own forces here. Anything you need, just ask."

Feng Ting dropped her head, pushing her finger together nervously. "Do they blame me?" When she first reincarnated in this world, she had spent months in a limbo of sorts. It was senior sister Wenxin who first found her. Eventually, she pulled herself together. But for all the two years she lived in this new world, she never contacted the others.

"No." Ming Wenxin scowled. "Rather, they get onto my case for hiding you. I still don't know how that idiot found it." She sighed. "Xiao Qi, those two years alone were good for you. You've retained some of your old spark."

The past was painful to all of them, but it hit Xiao Qi the most. Their miraculous reincarnation into this world gave them a chance of start over, begin new lives. For Xiao Qi, it was the best way to recover.

"Is everyone here?"

Ming Wenxin paused. "Everyone but her." The silence between them was painful. Feng Ting closed her eyes.

"I see."

Ming Wenxin didn't want to approach this topic, but she said it anyway. "It seems like we reincarnated based on the order of our deaths. She was the first to die, but Ah Shen was the first one here. We looked all over and confirmed this . . . "

"It's fine." Feng Ting smiled. "Our situation is supernatural. I'm just glad I can see you all again."

She stood abruptly and hugged the woman tightly. "Fifth Senior Sister Wenxin." The corner of her eyes teared.

On the team, Ming Wenxin was the 2nd closest to her, practically her sibling. The seductive assassin was her mentor and elder sister, irreplaceable family.

"Xiao Qi," Ming Weixin's voice faltered, "Welcome back." She patted the back of the girl and attempted the lighten the atmosphere. "So I guess you're ready to see everyone now huh?"

Feng Ting gave a watery, but bright smile. "Yes."

"We all came years ahead of you. Our influence and cards are already steady here. In this world, we want you to live life to its fullest."

Feng Ting looked up with determination. "I will protect you all this time too!"

Ming Wenxin poked her head. "You just have fun. Drink, gamble, topple countries, whatever." Her smile turned mischievous. "How about having a few flings?"

Feng Ting flushed, immediately thinking of the demon CEO. She pouted."You're teasing me!"

Ming Wenxin 's eyes curved into crescents. "It's just an idea. I do regret not teaching you about the charms of true love. After all, its kind of ridiculous that you can kill a man in fifty ways using a chopsticks but not know how to French kiss."

Feng Ting covered her face. "Please stop talking. It's not like I'm some innocent girl."

"Well . . . you kinda are." Ming Wenxin giggled. In the end, she was ushered out the door by Feng Ting in embarrassment.

Ming Wenxin's face immediately lost the fondness after turning away from the door. "Let's go." Bodyguard appeared from the shadows, trailing behind her as she left the building.

In the moving car, Ming Wenxin opened her laptop. The screen showed a secure video chat with three faces. Two men and a woman.

"She is in China." The man spoke. A statement, not a question.

Ming Wenxin smiled languidly. "Yes, and she recovered quite well." She smirked. "I told you that my way would work. She needed space, not for you two to hound her everyday like she was a mental patient."

The man was silent. "Wenxin, you know we meant well. At the time, things were different."

"Anhu," Ming Wenxin bit back, "Would it kill you to admit I was right?"

The man held up his hands. "Fine, you were right."

"When can we meet her?" The woman cut in.

"Up to you." Ming Wenxin shrugged. "I was going to add her to the group chat later, though I still think you need to give her more time. Anyway, can you even step away during this period? I hear things are getting tense over there."

The woman was silent. "It's a minor issue." She glanced at the man.

"Well, we'll visit after taking care of the things on our end. It should only take a few months anyway and Xiao Qi can slowly integrate herself here. She can have her fun." The man coughed. "Zhong Yi will go sooner since we plan to expand deeper into the Chinese market anyway."

The second man inclined his head in agreement, silent.

"Would it kill you to say a few words. This is a videochat for a reason," mumbled Ming Wenxin. "Do you have Ah Shen's whereabouts? I can't get through to him."

"Him? I believe he's consulting in London since the PM got injured . . . or he might be volunteering in Africa. You know it's hard to track him. He should be back on news of Xiao Qi reaches him."

Ming Wenxin scowled. "Fine, I'll keep trying."

The man smiled. "Send us Xiao Qi's information. We'll send things."

"Hmm, whatever." Ming Wenxin shut the laptop. She rather get to monopolize her kawaii junior sister. This brother-con always competed with her for attention, annoying.

"Looks like life is gonna be interesting again."
