15. Taking Nothing Away from Him

Translator: Snowball

Ling Mubai sat in the back seat with his eyes closed on the way home, which made the driver think that he was asleep and slowed down the car.

However, as what was on his mind was the scene of Qu Wan’s being with Wang Zicheng, there was no way Ling Mubai was taking a nap.

He finally found the woman he had been looking for three years, but instead of feeling joyful, he was filled with resentfulness and sorrow for the moment.

Where had she been in these three years? How come she fooled around with a dandy like Wang Zicheng?

His thoughts whirled back to the morning three years ago.

When he returned back then, he found it was eerily quiet in the villa.

He checked all the rooms on the first floor but didn’t see Qu Wan. When he trudged upstairs and pushed open the door of the bedroom, he found nobody inside either.

“She must have gone grocery shopping for lunch,” he thought.

He then sat down on the sofa and waited quietly for her, but to his surprise, three hours later, there was still no sign of her!

With a frown, he took out his cell phone and dialed her number but only heard her phone ringing in the drawer.

After freezing for a while, he rushed to the study and then to the kitchen, but no miracle occurred.

Though he almost turned the villa upside down, he couldn’t find that woman.

Standing lonely in the empty house, Ling Mubai was suddenly seized with panic. He rummaged through the villa frantically until he went back to their bedroom, exhausted.

When he opened the wardrobe, he saw Qu Wan’s clothes neatly laid out.

After pulling all the clothes out and checking them one by one, he found that a red dress was gone.

Qu Jianguo had bought that dress for Qu Wan as a wedding gift, but as Ling Mubai thought it was out of fashion and too dowdy, Qu Wan had never put it on.

All her clothes were still there, except that dress!

When he pulled out the drawer of the bedstand and found out that Qu Wan’s ID card and other certificates were all gone, he couldn’t stop his hands from trembling.

Scanning around the bedroom, he found that everything remained the same except for the missing of the hostess.

Later, he saw a note on the dresser with a few lines in her neatly handwriting.

Qu Wan listed every item Ling Mubai had bought her—earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and etc., and the last words on the note were, “Please check all the items on the list.”

On the back of the slip, there was a line of words as well. “If it’s convenient, please post the divorce certificate and the wedding ring to Qu Jianguo. Thank you!”

Her familiar handwriting seemed ironic to him. Ling Mubai pulled open the drawer of the dresser and saw various kinds of boxes neatly placed inside.

These were the fine jewelry and cosmetics he had carefully selected for her and he could even remember every style and the date of these gifts.

In the middle of the drawer was a small box containing the wedding ring he had given her.

As Quwan was a person of self-pride, she was reluctant to accept his help with money and to show her love for him, she insisted on buying a ring for him on her own.

She spent all her savings on the ring.

She said she was going to lock him up with the ring so that he would be with her for the rest of his life.

She said once he put on the ring, he would have to wear it until they were aged, or buried in their graves.

The moment she had sworn that she would never part from him was still vivid in his mind.

However, it turned out that what she had said was a lie!

Out of his mind, Ling Mubai knocked over all those jewelry and cosmetics.

Qu Wan took nothing away from the villa and she even put all her underwear in the cupboard in order after cleaning them up.

Since then, she disappeared from his life with the red dress, leaving no trace.

The divorce agreement did require her not to take anything away from the Ling’s house, but Ling Mubai had never thought that this woman would have left without even taking her own clothes with her!

“Qu Wan, how could you be so cruel!”

In an emotional turmoil, Ling Mubai felt as if he had been stabbed in the heart and was bleeding.
