2. Mistaking Someone Else for Her

Translator: Snowball

Three years later…

In the car dashing along the road, a man in the back seat was staring at the business plan in his hands with his brows knitted.

The Ling’s Group was going to bid for a project about the renovation of the old town where Qu Wan had been living before she got married.

Watching the residential area highlighted in red on the drawing, Ling Mubai was lost in thought.

As the car sped along, from the corner of his eye Ling Mubai suddenly caught a glimpse of a familiar figure. “Stop!” he immediately sat upright.

The driver stopped the car to a screeching halt. “Mr. Ling, anything wrong?”

Ling Mubai’s chest heaved violently as he saw people bustling in the street. After a while, he revealed a bitter smile. “Nothing. I guess it was just my eyes playing tricks on me.”

She hated him to the core, so he knew it couldn’t be her.

In the past three years, he had looked everywhere she might have been but failed to get any clues about her whereabouts. She seemed to have vanished from this planet, and he never heard of her since they had parted.

He was aware that with her stubborn nature, she would rather die than appear before him again.

Qu Wan was looking around in the hotel lobby with a briefcase in her hand, like a flunky.

The man in front of her turned his head while striding forward. “What’s on my schedule for today?” he asked.

Casting a glance at the memo, Qu Wan answered quickly, “You need to discuss project development with our partners at 2:00 pm, deliver a speech at 4:00 pm and have dinner with a customer at 6:00 pm. This customer has already made an appointment with you in advance.”

“I don’t have time to attend the dinner this evening, so you have to go on behalf of me!” the man said without even thinking about it.

“Huh?”

Qu Wan opened her mouth wide in the shape and size of an egg. “No, no, no! Mr. Wang, I suggest you go in person. I’m not that sociable…”

Wang Zicheng turned to shoot her a glare. “Stop nagging! Just do what I asked you to do!”

He hated women wearing sun-glasses. To his annoyance, his father asked him to go on a business trip with this woman who wore a pair of large sunglasses that covered almost half of her face!

“She’s just a secretary. Is it necessary to make herself so mysterious?” he thought resentfully.

He didn’t like Qu Wan the first time they met. Now he felt very depressed with such a serious, rigid woman following him.

He always found fault with her, trying to force her to quit her job. However, this blockhead showed no intent to leave and she had been working with him for two months!

The only thing that didn’t bother him was that this woman had always been doing her work without complaint and no matter how much she was wronged, she would bear the grievance in silence.

Wang Zicheng was sent on this business trip by his father, who obviously wanted to test his son’s capability. To his dismay, his father also arranged for this woman to come along and keep an eye on him!

If he was in a bad mood, he wouldn’t let other people feel good. It was so easy to find an excuse to pick on her!

Qu Wan didn’t expect that her boss would have sent her to this city for a business trip. She subconsciously resisted coming, but as Wang Zicheng had a prejudice against her, disregarding her objection, he insisted on bringing her here, and now he even wanted her to attend the dinner party alone!

“Mr. Wang, I’m not a flexible person and I don’t know how to negotiate with those businessmen. What’s more, I never drink and I’m also afraid that the customers might be frightened by my abstract appearance!” She abased herself as much as she could, hoping she could evade the dinner.

“It seems you know yourself well!” Hearing that, Qu Wan almost coughed up a mouthful blood. “Don’t worry! It’s because you’re ugly that I feel assured to let you accompany them. If you were a beauty, I wouldn’t bear to send you to those beasts!”

“Beasts?” Qu Wan’s heart skipped a beat. As she expected, that wasn’t an occasion for women!

Wang Zicheng knew she was going to turn him down, so he continued before she could say anything, “You may choose not to go, with your resignation letter, of course!”

“But…” After a short moment of hesitation, Qu Wan caught up with him, clenching her teeth.

The lobby of the hotel was packed with people.

“It’s said that Mr. Ling will come in person!”

“Really? OMG! Where’s the washroom? I need to refine my makeup!”

Walking behind Wang Zicheng, Qu Wan shivered unconsciously when she heard someone talking about Ling Mubai. She immediately lowered her head and picked up her pace.

Distracted, Qu Wan didn’t notice that Wang Zicheng had stopped by the door and she suddenly bumped her face against the latter on the back.

“Hiss!”

Feeling a sharp pain in her nose, she took a deep breath, tears popping out in an instant.

Wang Zicheng turned his head and shot her an angry glare. “Are you bli…” However, when he saw the crystal tears in her eyes, the word ‘blind’ got stuck in his throat.

She was crying?

He definitely didn’t see that coming!

In Wang Zicheng’s opinion, this woman would do everything he ordered inconsciently as if she were a machine.

He never thought that a workaholic like Qu Wan also had her soft spot and she was even crying!

After opening the door of the car, Wang Zicheng said coldly, “Why are you still standing there? Do you want to walk back?”

Though still unfriendly, his tone was much softer than before.

Qu Wan bent over and got into the car, covering her nose with her hand. It hurt so much! She hoped it wouldn’t swell up.

When he saw Qu Wan rubbing her nose from the rearview mirror, Wang Zicheng was surprised to find that her pitiful look somehow reminded him of his new girlfriend, that model.

It was a pity that the huge sun-glasses on her face blocked his vision. “What a bummer!”

He looked straight ahead while driving, and began to sympathize with this woman for no reason. “I’ll attend the dinner in person this evening,” he suddenly opened his mouth.

Qu Wan was stupefied, but after a short moment of daze, she immediately responded, “That’s great! Thank you, Mr. Wang!”

She was so delighted that she had forgotten the pain in her nose.

“Don’t count your chickens! I’m not done yet!” Glancing at her, Wang Zicheng continued, “You’ll have to go with me!”

“Huh?”

The trace of smile froze on her face in an instant and she became listless again.

The disappointed look on her face was a delight to Wang Zicheng. He had never seen the funny side of this sunglasses-wearing woman before.

And now he seemed to have hooked on making fun of her!
