25. What Should We Do?

Translator: Snowball

Though Jiang Zhendong played a part in Wang Zicheng’s winning the bid, he wouldn’t tell Qin Surong about this.

Qin Surong was rendered speechless when she was told that it was a joint decision of the municipal leadership, and she had to hang up resentfully.

Meanwhile, Jiang Xinyue hurried back home when she heard of the news. As soon as she stepped into the room, she asked, “Mom, Mubai lost in the bid. What should we do?”

“Let’s talk about it when your dad comes back!” Qin Surong answered grumpily.

“Mom, can you find a way to get those leaders to change their decision? Maybe it’s not too late!” Jiang Xinyue paced about in the room anxiously.

She had promised Sun Lan that as long as her father was still the mayor, this project would be Mubai’s. Now she had no idea how to explain to her future mother-in-law.

“Xinyue, calm down! I already talked to your dad on the phone. He’s not in a good mood, so it’s useless to call him again. Let’s discuss it when he comes back.”

“Mom, I can wait, but Auntie Sun can’t! She’s short-tempered and she’ll definitely blame me!”

“No worries. Even though Mubai lost the project, you’re still the mayor’s daughter, so he’ll still marry you.”

“I know Antie Sun won’t call off the engagement, but I’m worried she’ll pick on me after I married Mubai. Mom, you can’t imagine how ruthless she was to Qu Wan back then!”

However, Qin Surong had a different perspective and after pondering for a while, she gradually regained her composure.

“Xinyue, she treated Qu Wan that way because she didn’t know Qu Wan was the mayor’s daughter. With your dad as your backing, she won’t dare to do anything to you!”

If the Lings wanted to establish themselves in this city, they wouldn’t dare to offend the Jiangs.

When Jiang Xinyue was discussing with her mother what to do next, her phone suddenly rang. It was her bestie, Jiang Wenwen, who was calling. “Xinyue, are you watching TV? Qu Wan is on the news program!”

Jiang Xinyue was not in the mood to watch TV, but when she heard the name of Qu Wan, she froze on the spot in an instant.

“How come Qu Wan appeared on the TV news?”

Turning the TV on in haste, she saw the press conference about the old town renovation held by the Wangs being broadcast live.

The woman who was sitting next to Wang Zicheng was none other than Qu Wan!

Exchanging glances, Jiang Xinyue and Qin Surong immediately figured out what had happened. Qu Wan must have something to do with Ling Mubai’s losing the bid!

At the same time, Ling Mubai was in a meeting with the company’s executives. He regretted that he hadn’t taken the bid seriously, or things might not have gone completely out of hand.

Now he was certain that instead of speaking for him, Jiang Zhendong might have given a hand to Wang Zicheng secretly.

“I’m going to marry Jiang Xinyue next month. How come Jiang Zhendong helped an outsider against me?” he wondered in confusion.

“There must be some skeleton in the closet!”

Propping his forehead with his hand, Ling Mubai suddenly remembered the moment Jiang Zhendong had chatted with Qu Wan in the coffee shop. “Did he help Wang Zicheng because of Qu Wan?”

“Jiang Zhendong wouldn’t have helped Qu Wan if the latter had nothing special to do with him!”

When Ling Mubai was scratching his head in his office, Qin Surong and Jiang Xinyue were laden with anxiety at home as well.

So far, no outsiders had known Qu Wan was Jiang Zhendong’s daughter. Jiang Xinyue wasn’t sure if she would still be able to keep him after Ling Mubai found out Qu Wan’s real identity in the future.

Qu Wan was only 12 years old when her mother passed away, in the middle of adolescent rebellion. She had been quarreling with Jiang Zhendong since he brought Qin Surong and Jiang Xinyue home, refusing to admit that she had anything to do with them.

Jiang Zhendong didn’t want to lose any of his daughters and in a dilemma, he had to keep trying to persuade Qu Wan.

It almost scared him out of sense when Jiang Zhendong suddenly found that Qu Wan was missing one day. He sent a lot of people to look for her and finally found her in Qu Jianguo’s house.

Qu Wan refused to go back home when Jiang Zhendong came to pick her up, saying that the enmity between her and Qin Surong and Jiang Xinyue would never be reconciled. In the end, she had her name cancelled from the original household register and changed her surname to Qu.

Jiang Zhendong loved her, but he couldn’t change her mind, so he had to give in.

Since then, Qu Wan severed all ties with the Jiangs and had never returned home.

Later, Jiang Zhendong was busy running for mayor and he hadn’t had much time, so he could only see her occasionally.

Qu Wan was so stubborn that every time Jiang Zhendong came, she would lock the door from the inside and refuse to open it no matter what her father said. She even threatened that if Jiang Zhendong came again, she would jump down from the building and make him regret it for the rest of his life.

Jiang Zhendong was heartbroken that his daughter had regarded him as her sworn enemy. So as not to disturb her peaceful life, he had never gone to Qu Jianguo’s house to see her since then.

Afterward, Jiang Zhendong became the mayor and Jiang Xinyue was admitted to the college where Qu Wan studied.

After learning this, Jiang Zhendong once visited Qu Wan by taking the opportunity of visiting Jiang Xinyue, but was kicked out of the dormitory by Qu Wan.

When Qu Wan married Ling Mubai, Qu Jianguo was the only one of her family who presented at the wedding.

Her mother-in-law thought that a girl of humble origins didn’t deserve her son and she always found fault with her, so Qu Wan wasn’t happy after marriage.

A few years later, she was driven out of Ling’s house and left the city without a penny with her. Since then, nobody had heard from her.

Now that Qin Surong and Jiang Xinyue had become the respected mayor’s wife and daughter, they certainly didn’t want Qu Wan back.

Qin Surong was confident that Qu Wan wouldn’t be willing to come back, so she agreed without hesitation when Jiang Zhendong had expressed his will to take her home.

Qu Wan didn’t ask Jiang Zhendong for help when she was in her most difficult times, so she was less likely to come to him when her situation had improved.

Bu now, Qin Surong couldn’t help but feel worried.

Qu Wan was no longer the stubborn girl who would rather endure hardship than give in. She had met Jiang Zhendong after coming back to the city and it was obvious that she had shown signs of reconciliation.

Qin Surong grew tense and she even started suspecting that Qu Wan had come back on a special purpose.

The main reason why Qu Wan agreed to divorce was that she thought Ling Mubai had betrayed her and had an affair with Jiang Xinyue.

“What if she still hates us and especially came back to seek revenge on Xinyue?”

Though the marriage between Ling Mubai and Jiang Xinyue had been settled verbally, something unexpected might happen before the wedding.

Qin Surong was certain that if Ling Mubai knew Qu Wan was Jiang Zhendong’s daughter, he would call off his wedding to Jiang Xinyue at once.

However, this matter was beyond her control and she was clear that Ling Mubai would know the secret sooner or later.

Since Qu Wan could help Wang Zicheng win the bid, she might be able to have Jiang Zhendong do something else for her.

Without knowing what to do, Qin Surong and her daughter were as restless as ants on a hot pan.

After work, instead of going home, Jiang Zhendong drove to Wang Zicheng’s company to see Qu Wan.
