3. I Only Had Myself

Translator: Iris Guo

Mei was an orphan. My mom had brought Mei home and treated Mei as her own daughter.

After my father had driven mom to her death, I left home and took Mei with me. These years, she was the only one with me.

I had dropped out of high school to be a barmaid for Mei’s tuition fee.

Mei didn’t let me down. She won scholarships every year, and the heart of a rich man before she graduated. I heard that man loved her so much that he would do everything for her.

Every time I mentioned Mei, I felt proud of her.

She was innocent, kind-hearted and well-educated. She would grow up as a brilliant woman.

If Mei got hurt on my account, I would lose my sanity.

I pushed the door with all my strength, only to find a blond punk was on top of her. His fly was widely opened, and his cock was already pressed on her leg.

“Fuck off!” I barked at him, and rushed over to hit him in the head with a brick which I grabbed by the door.

Before he could dodge, the brick already fell on his head. He then bled.

The punk left Mei but threw me onto the ground. “How dare you? She can wait, but you will be the first!”

I heard my skirt was torn up. He jumped over and separated my legs. He was trying to enter my body.

“Bastard!” I bit his fingers and attempted to scratch his face with my long fingernails. I was completely mad.

It must be Shen Xiong’an. He knew I had sent Shen Huanyan into mental hospital last night, so he found someone to rape Mei.

That bastard! The most regretful thing for me was that I had called him father for more than ten years!

The blond guy was irritated. He slapped me and banged my head frantically against the ground.

When I was about to give up, the punk suddenly dropped me and let out a gasp, “Mr… Mr. Ling…”

‘Mr. Ling? Is that Ling Mubai?’

I turned my head and saw a handsome face. He was towering over me.

I was stunned. ‘Why is Ling Mubai here?’

‘At such a dangerous moment, he comes to save me!’

I got a warm feeling in my heart, and thought getting beaten up was not that bad.

But it didn’t take long before Ling Mubai looked away and walked past me. He took off his coat and covered Mei’s body.

“Mubai, thank you for coming and saving me…” Mei whimpered in Ling Mubai’s arms, as if she had been a boat in the storm that finally came ashore.

“Don’t worry, Mei. I’m here.” Ling Mubai said softly. I hadn’t seen him like this for ten years.

He was not the same person I knew. He should be cold and cruel! But now he kissed Mei on her cheek and consoled her.

The look of great concern on his face stung my eyes. I was petrified and didn’t feel anything. Even the pain on my body had gone.

‘Mubai?’

‘The rich man Mei told me is Ling Mubai?’

I knew Ling Mubai refused to get married because he loved someone else.

But I didn’t expect that the person he wanted to marry was Mei!

“Hah…” I laughed wryly. My heart was like broken glass, in pieces, and on the floor.

My half-sister had slept with my husband on our wedding night. And now I found my husband loved Mei who I always regarded as my sister.

How dramatic my life could be!

Despite my pain, I stared at Ling Mubai. “So, is this my wedding gift? I should have known it.”

Ling Mubai didn’t even give me a glance. He was as indifferent to me as ever. Then he took Mei in his arms and walked away.

Pulling his tie, Mei looked at me and said almost apologetically. “Mubai, Huansheng…”

Ling Mubai stopped and glanced at me. “Don’t worry, she will be fine,” he said.

My sanity drifted away like a kite with its strings cut.

I wanted to bury myself in a tomb, not for Ling Mubai’s callousness, but for Mei’s betrayal.

She knew how deep my love towards Ling Mubai was. She also knew that I would do anything for him even if that would cost my life.

But she dated Ling Mubai under my nose.

When she told me she was dating a rich man, I was so happy. I even taught her how to flirt with a man step by step.

Now I wanted to slap myself on the face.

I put on a smile and scrambled to my feet, trying to leave here. But I heard Mei’s voice from behind.

“Huansheng, thank you for coming here… I… I’m sorry about…”

“I came here for my sister.” I turned back and gave her a smile, wiping the blood on my face. “You don’t have to say sorry. I’m Ling Mubai’s lawfully wedded wife. If you try to marry him, there’s a long way to go.”

After spitting out those words, I walked out of the door without hesitation.

Before I could reach the entrance of the compound, I collapsed.

I shivered and huddled up in the corner, fumbling for my phone to call an ambulance.

Hearing the shrill clang of the ambulance bell, I burst into tears. I couldn’t breathe and howled heart-wrenchingly…

From now on, I was left alone… I only had myself…
