Wheel Of Life

Chapter 2 - Spin, Spin, Spin oh mighty spinner

"So it goes like this," The voice explained, "I will bring a big wheel in front of you, and you spin it. If your luck is good, you could be reborn as the ric.h.e.s.t person alive's child. You could end up in an alternate universe, there are plenty of those. If your luck is bad, you could come back as a stinkbug."

"Wait, wait, you said this was a prize, a stink bug?" asked Mark.

"I jest, I jest" replied the voice, "Are you ready? 3, 2, 1....."

In front of Mark, in the white void, a giant wheel appeared. The wheel was the size of a football stadium that had been put on its side. The text was so small that Mark couldn't read any of the prizes. Millions upon millions of options were written around the wheel.

The wheel was brightly coloured, with millions of multicoloured segments splitting it. It had jewels placed around the edges, separating the segments. They glittered around the edges and it looked like something you could only imagine to appear in a cave of a 1000 thieves.

"I can't read the text?" asked Mark.

"Who cares, grab the wheel and spin it." replied the voice. "Oh this is so exciting!" it added.

"How? I can't even reach the edges?" Mark asked.

"Imagine and it shall be." added the voice. "Now Spin, Spin, Spin oh mighty spinner!"

Mark reached out and a giant hand appeared from the side, he was shocked and clenched the hand. It grabbed the wheel and span it. The wheel span and span.

*Ding Ding Ding* it roared as it span at a speed that Mark couldn't fathom. It span and span and never seemed to slow.

"Wow it's so shiny!" exclaimed the voice.

Mark stared at the wheel, still trying to understand how he had gone from eating his breakfast, contemplating his potential promotion, to being hit by the same train he takes to work every day.

"Its taking too long" yawned the voice.

*Click Click Click* the wheel sounded, as it finally started to slow down.

"It's finally getting interesting!" added the voice, as the wheel slowly but surely came to a stop.

*Click*

"Jackpot, life as a dung beetle!" exclaimed the voice.

*Click*

"Damn, I liked that one. Reincarnate as royalty in a luxurious country of your choice, with hack skills"

*Click*

"Just stop already!" angrily shouted the voice.

*Click Click Click*

The wheel finally stopped.

Mark looked at where it had stopped, mouth agape. He didn't know what it said, but the fact that the jewels glowed and the colours flashed red to green to blue made him overawed with shock.

Suddenly a hand touched his shoulder and he span in shock. Facing him was a tall ballad boy in a long white tabard from a Knight in the 1500's. His eyes where white and when you looked in them you felt that you were looking into an endless abyss.

"It seems you got a difficult one." the boy said, with the same booming voice from earlier. "You are going to a strange place. Do me a favour when you are there, become a leader, build a stronghold and prepare for a few tough challenges."

Mark nodded his head in acknowledgement, not understanding what was happening in the slightest.

"I will help where I can." The boy added, whilst looking deep in thought. He tapped Mark on the head lightly.

Mark felt the weight of the world crushing down on him, immense pain filling his entire being. He wanted to scream but no sound came out. Then what followed was a feeling of lightness, as if he was a feather dropping gently in the wind.

"Good, that should do." The boy said. Before everything faded to black.

....

...

Mark awoke, sweat dripping down his back. He sat up quickly and opened his eyes. Hoping that everything before had been a peculiar nightmare. The Girl, the Train, the Boy and the Wheel.

*Bang*

Mark smashed his head into a wooden beam that was above his bed. He felt above him and felt the thickness off it. There shouldn't have been a beam above him. There shouldn't have been anything above him. His head pounded and he knew a bump would be rising there soon.

He felt around in the darkness for his bedside lamp switch, but there was nothing to be found. He banged around for a while until he fell out of the bed. The bed seemed much less comfy than his usual one, and instead of springs, it felt more like sticks and straw tied together.

The door to his room opened, and an attractive woman was facing him. The light behind her radiating into the room. She was wearing a dark brown gown, with knee high black boots. She had long brown hair that reached her down to her shoulders, with a single plat that held her fringe in place.

A text window suddenly appeared in Mark's vision.

"Will you stop banging around!" She exclaimed, "If you continue, you can sleep on the streets!"

"Who are you?" Mark asked, "Where am i?"

"I am Alicia and this is my Inn Rupert's Rage" She replied, "Which you already know, as you have booked a room here and have been drinking at the bar all evening. Damn travellers not being able to handle their drink."

Mark was confused, how had he got here? The wheel, was is real?

"So stop banging, before you wake up the other punters. Sleep the alcohol off and come apologise on the morrow!" She added.

"Sorry Alicia, I apologise!" Mark replied. She stared at him, nodded and slammed the door behind her as she left.

"F.u.c.k!" Mark exclaimed. He didn't know where he was sent, but he new that there was going to be many challenges ahead. What had the boy said again "Do me a favour when you are there, become a leader, build a stronghold and prepare for a few tough challenges."

Mark laid back down, dazed and confused. Exhaustion soon set in and he fell asleep. Tomorrow was going to be an interesting day.
