Chapter 38 - The Battle at Raven's Peak part 3

Time paused as the Lucky Spinner appeared before Mark. As time paused the fanatical enemy that was charging towards him came to a stop with the foam from his mouth still dripping. His sword was raised high in the air and had stopped motionless. Mark stared in to his eyes, and saw nothing in them, an empty vessel that was lost in the sands of time.

The Lucky Spinner that had appeared looked like an old wooden spinning top that would have been seen in ancient times. It had a circular top that was split in top that was painted in four segments, blue, red, green and purple. There was also some ancient text that circled the spinner that had been roughly engraved. It was only small and could easily be grabbed in Mark's hand that it floated before. It was currently rested on it's red side waiting to be lifted and span.

Mark looked around at the paused world, taking in the surroundings. Beyond the enemy that was charging at him, there were more that were rushing through the gate. They all had vacant looks in their eyes, but their expressions showed that of a d.e.s.i.r.e to kill.

The enemies had taken the walls, ladders propt up against them with enemies mid climb. Some small groups of Red Ribbons and Villagers were still fighting in sections of the wall against the climbers. The majority of the enemy were charging through the gate at the Heavy Division who were being pushed back towards the fort centre.

Mark looked at his men, who had been fighting valiantly. Bertrand's forearms were covered in shallow cuts from deflected blades, his huge long sword caught clashing against the incoming blade from his enemy, who was drenched in sweat and filth. Octavian was swinging his hammer against a group of men, with one falling to the ground, his head caved in from Octavians hammer. Lucan was pushing his shield forwards, so that Vlad who was stood behind him could stab his spear into the enemies in front.

Boudica had fallen to the floor, resting on her sword, blood was flowing from a wound on her t.h.i.g.h and she was struggling to stand. Orion and Belle stood infront of her defending from some wild enemies who were targeting her, they crawled low along the floor with their faces covered in black dirt marks, with daggers held in front if them. Trying to snatch her away for a prize from Ned Lowe.

Gan Ning was launching a counter attack in to one of the flanks of the charging raiders, Jin stood beside him as they sprinted, weapons drawn, at their enemies. Gan Nings twin swords were covered in blood as the defenders had thought a long and bloody fight.

Tsubotai was on his horseback preparing to charge wildly in to the fray to release some pressure, aware that his position in this fight was negligible. His horse was foaming at the mouth, raring to charge.

Little Tai was crumpled on the floor behind the defenders, Sengo and Jorg at his side, clad in their armour that had been forged by their own hands. Little Tai has a look of worry and disappointment on his face, not expecting their adventures to be in such a dire situation so soon.

"Wilson?" Mark asked. "What do I do with the Lucky Spinner?"

"Spin it!" He replied, "What else would you do?"

"Ok, and after I have span it, what happens?" Mark continued.

"This Lucky Spinner is rare, it has been around for thousands of years, since before even the babylonians had an empire. Once you have span it, your luck will be seen. Red means danger, blue by the sea or sky, green is for the ground and purple is a surprise for us all. With the Lucky Spinner, it is all down to fate, and the Spinners mood." Wilson replied.

"The Spinners mood?" Mark asked.

"Yes, it has feelings. Everything does? So treat him nicely." Wilson remarked.

Mark grabbed the Lucky Spinner by the top gently, grasping it from the air. It appeared in his hand and he prepared to spin it between his finger tips.

"Please Lucky Spinner, provide us with a wat to victory." Mark asked politely.

He quickly span the spinner and watched as the faded colours flashed past. The dull engraved words started to glow gold and silver as sparks appeared around it. Dark clouds appeared in the frozen sky and thunder could be heard clashing in the distance. It continued to spin for a few seconds before it began to wobble.

It wobbled and wobbled, multiple times almost coming to a stop, until it did. It landed on green and suddenly disappeared.

Time unfroze and swords came clashing down as the fights resumed. The enemy continued to charge at Mark who was still dazed by the spinner.

Dian Wei pushed Mark out of the way as he crashed one of his halberds down in to the neck of the enemy, causing their head to fall loose from the body. Freeing Mark from his close call.

"Pay attention!" He yelled angrily at Mark, before swinging his other halberd down on another foe, splitting them at the waist. This bodyguard was like a demon on the battlefield, keeping Mark safe from any attacker.

"Green." Mark heard Wilson say. "Your luck isn't too bad."

Orion stabbed down with his short sword on a crawling enemy that was approaching them, whilst Boudica tried to lift herself to continue with the fight.

"Stay down!" Belle yelled at her, "put pressure on the wound and stop moving, let us protect you!"

Boudica growled in return, refusing to back down from the fight and let people protect her. She lamented not killing Ned with her arrow earlier and swore she would if she had another chance. Whilst Belle was speaking with her, Orion was fighting back against another crawler, who seemed possessed and fearless.

Gan Ning clashed in to the flank of the enemies charging through the gate, Jin and the others close behind him. There sprint cut through the enemies quickly with many falling in the initial clash. This freed up the pressure on the Heavy Division and gave them a breather for a second or two. Gan Ning's twin swords span as he swung meaningfully, each swing aimed precisely.

More enemies mounted the walls and jumped in to the fort, whilst those coming through the gate mounted additional pressure on Gan Ning and Little Tai's units.

"Wilson! When will the Lucky Spinner work?" Mark asked desperately.

"When ever it wants to work." Wilson replied, "It landed on Green, be happy!"

Mark was confused by Wilson's reply, and looking at his men fighting a losing battle lamented. He didn't know what they could do to get out of this, and the Lucky Spinner had not done him any favours so far.

Mark looked towards Tsubotai whose war horse was scratching at the ground in front. He was grasping the reignts tightly, preparing his charge, Kish and Leif behind him, both strapped and bandaged from earlier fights. Mark watched them and understood that if they charged in to the fray, they would cause large amounts of damage, but it would be a suicidal attempt.

Mark tried to signal for them to not charge, he didn't want anyone throwing their lives away. They were growing friends and becoming a small family, and he didn't want to see any more loss. But soon they were lost to sight as the Heavy Division surrounded him to protect him.

A ring of men were now gathered in the centre, Mark was in the middle with the Light, Heavy and Silent Divisions surrounding him. Some small pockets were also spread out randomly. Tsubotai and his men were to the side, preparing to charge in. Whilst Sakura was inside the headquarters with the children and townsfolk that hadn't joined the fight.

"Boudica, are you alright?" Mark asked seriously, gazing at her bleeding t.h.i.g.h.

Boudica who was now positioned next to him frowned.

"Do I look ok?" she replied angrily, "I'm pissed! All this death because I can't hit someone with an arrow!"

*AWOOOOOO* *AWOOOOOOO*

A horn sounded loudly in the distance.

*AWOOOOOO* *AWOOOOOOO*

It sounded again.

The enemies continued to charge in, as the horns sounded, applying more pressure to the Red Ribbons that were slowly pushed in on one another.

Tsubotai started his charge, aiming for the enemy flank, hoping to assist his brothers and sister Red Ribbons in anyway possible. As his War Horse charged the floor shook, as if 10's of horses were in their place.

The three horses foamed at the mouth, their eyes red with rage as they hit the enemy flank. Tsubotai slashed his sword down, with Leif and Kish doing the same on his sides. The weight of the horses crushing man underneath, with the others cut down from the charge.

Their horses soon came to a slow as they passed through the crowd, however the floor continued to shake. The shaking got worse and the noise of charging hooves got louder.

*AWOOOOO* *AWOOOOOOO*

A horn bellowed again, this time followed by the bodies of men flying in to the air from the gate. The enemies charging in now quickly trying to disperse in shock as those behind them were squashing against them, bodies being thrown to the side as a unit of heavily armoured men on horseback charged in.

The unknown force was lead by a man in glittering silver armour that held a long lance. The lance skewered some of Ned Lowe's men together before being discarded and a sword was drawn. He was accompanied by 9 other horse riders dressed in heavy armour, holding long swords or lances that impaled the attackers. The weight of their horses and momentum from their charge crushing and tossing enemies wildly away.

Behind this man in silver armour, more horseman charged in, they had lighter armour and swung long curved blades that aimed at the shocked attackers heads. They had bows on their backs and one of them held a horn to his mouth that he continued to blow.

*AWOOOOOOO* *AWOOOOOOOO*

The lead unknown rider soon reached the encircled Red Ribbons, he wore no helmet and had long glittering blonde hair. His features were almost feminine and he could easily he described as a handsome man. His eyes gazed upon the centre were Mark and Boudica were position, with Belle, Dian Wei and Orion protecting them.

The newcomers circled the Red Ribbons, clearing away the enemies that had just been putting them under so much pressure. Tsubotai pulled in his horse and joined them.

The enemies that were on the wall looked down below, quickly making the decision to turn heels and run before they were caught in this fort of death.

"Retreat!" One of them yelled, before jumping madly from the wall to the ground below.

"Do not let them escape!" Gan Ning shouted in response, before charging after them with his tired men.

"Help them Konrad" The Blonde haired warrior in silver yelled, towards one of the Knights clad in armour. The Knight nodded before whistling and twirling his horse. He charged towards the gate and was followed by 4 others and the 10 lighter dressed men who drew their bows.

"Who ever gets the most kills, gets the most gold!" Konrad yelled as he charged out.

Mark looked at the Blonde haired warrior. Who pulled his horse up at the front of the Red Ribbons line.
