When A Ghoul Falls In Love

Volume 1 Chapter 29 If Only Your Brother Eats Me

The doctor is watching me strangely. The nurses are glaring at me intensely. This man is looking at me lovingly.

I don’t understand this man.

“H-How did this happen?” The lady doctor with copper-red hair asks him. She is taller than me. Her freckle-free face has a tinge of redness as she checks the wound on Eli’s ear. “These looks like”

She looks at me warily.

“Doctor Anderson, my wife was a little feisty when we were…” Eli peers at me and looks down with a fl.u.s.tered expression.

“…” I tried to scare him earlier by biting and drinking his blood. But why does it look like he’s even more into me now? What would ever work on this man?

“Haha” Doctor Anderson laughs awkwardly, but the pain is clear in her blue eyes. Doctor Anderson, huh? That nurse mentioned this name earlier. Is this lady doctor in love with Eli? He c.o.c.ks his head when she starts cleaning the wound. “It’s not as bad as it looks. It won’t leave a scar. Still, I would advise taking caution next time.”

They look good together Picturesque. When he has someone like her vying for him, why is he bothering someone like me? I cross my arms and look away. They look more intimate than Eli and I have ever been together. They must be close. It’s no wonder that the nurse was acting like I snatched someone else’s man away.

“Meow.” The Devil is sitting on Eli’s lap and meowing to him to catch his attention. Eli is listening to her she talks about medical stuff that I can’t understand while she bandages his ear.

He can’t see you, dumb cat.

The Devil snaps. “Tell him that I want him to look at me.”

It’s impossible.

“Tell him now.”

Impossible.

“I don’t like you.” The Devil hisses at me.

I don’t like you either.

They are still talking. Well, I am glad that there’s someone for him. I can leave with no regret. For seven years, I held myself back from killing myself because of my mother who turned out to be my imagination.

Since he kept saying that he loved me and all, I was a little worried if he was going to be okay without me. I didn’t want him to turn out like me.

He has someone. Not just one person. He has a family too. He has friends too. Then, why does he want someone like me? I am a crazy person who argues with an imaginary cat.

“Hey, why do you keep calling me imaginary?” The devil growls at me. “I am part of your mind. I am as real as you are.”

I am not worried about him anymore. You shouldn’t be worried about him either.

“When did I say that I was worried?” The cat guffaws. “Cats like warm and comfortable places.”

You aren’t a real cat.

“Only to you.” The cat takes his tongue out.

It’s pointless to argue with this thing. It’s awkward to wait for them to finish their conversation, but I don’t know why I am waiting in the first place. I don’t have any reason to wait. I should go back to the house. I take a step toward the door.

“Wife.” I feel his fingers curling around my forearm. “Where are you going?”

How did he walk so fast? I guess doctors are quick on their feet. “I am heading back to the house. Carry on. I will see you later.”

“It’s okay. I am done for the day.” Eli looks over his shoulder. “Doctor Anderson, if you have more questions, you can text me later.”

“Thank you, Doctor Sanguine.” The lady doctor looks at me. “I am sorry. You must have been bored.”

I don’t like this woman. Even if Eli and I have a strange relationship, she already knows that he is married. Shouldn’t she fold her feelings by now? “Yes, I was bored.”

“Aren’t you contradictory?” The Devil sneers. “Who was relieved that this little marshmallow has someone?”

Don’t point out unnecessary things.

“I am sorry.” She apologizes to me again. I ignore her and walk out of the room. I hear the sound of Eli’s steps following me. Then, I don’t hear them anymore. Did he go back? I want to turn around, but

“Fourth Brother!”

I halt on my tracks when I see the woman running in my direction. With ten inches heel, a short red dress that is showing off her pale shoulders and toned long legs, and long auburn hair, she’s standing out for sure. As she gets closer to me, her beautiful face begins to contort. Just then, someone covers my eyes.

**********

Suddenly, the temperature drops down as the thick fog fills the corridor. The doctors and nurses are confused. The patients are panicking. They can’t even see their own hands in the fog.

Eli is covering her eyes with his right hand while his left hand is holding his sister’s wrist. The sclera of his eyes become black as his golden pupils shine brighter. Siouxsie shudders when she notices the dangerous chill in his eyes.

“Doctor Sanguine?” Nell frowns. “What are you doing?”

“Recognized me, my wife?” Eli’s voice is sweet and coaxing while there’s no change in his eyes. The fog around them become thicker and colder, but it never touches Nell’s skin. “I am glad that my wife can recognize my touch now.”

Wife? Siouxsie raises her brow. Her brother married a human. He even marked her the way ghoul mark their lovers. This is amusing. This human seems to have no idea. Otherwise, her brother wouldn’t cover this woman’s eyes this way.

“I am not an idiot.” Nell clicks her tongue. She grabs his hand over her eyes. “Remove your hand.”

This situation is bad. How could he let her see him in this way? His wayward sister is also here. He mouthes to his sister, ‘Leave or else, I will kill you right here.’

“Why should I leave?” Siouxsie chuckles. “I came here to meet my sister-in-law.”

“Siouxsie,” Eli growls at her. “Go away.”

“I won’t go away.” She takes a step closer. “When did you get married? You didn’t even invite me to the wedding.”

Marrying a human? How laughable! Her brother has done it. She can’t wait to tell everyone about this.

“We didn’t have any wedding.” Nell lowers her hand.

Was he ever planning to tell them? Siouxsie retracts her nails. “Fourth Brother, you should have told us. We are your family. When will you bring my beautiful sister-in-law to our home?”

She’s going to cook this little human with her own hands.

Eli could guess what’s on Siouxsie’s mind. He grits his teeth. “Siouxsie, behave.”

“I am behaving.” Siouxsie folds her arms. “Why aren’t you letting sister-in-law see me?”

“Doctor Sanguine, can you remove your hand?” Nell raises her chin. “You are being ridiculous right now.”

If it was Julienne or Belinda, he wouldn’t be acting this way. This situation can’t be avoided. Eli lets go of Siouxsie’s hand. The fog dissipates around them. Their eyes return to normalcy. He takes a deep breath and removes his hand from Nell’s eyes.

Nell looks at his sister and says, “You are beautiful.”

Siouxsie blinks her eyes. It’s usual for her to receive flattery, but she rarely gets genuine flattery from another woman. There’s not a hint of jealousy in this human’s eyes. This human has a pure scent, but her darkness is as enchanting as the w.o.m.b of the night. “Sister-in-law, can I eat you?”

“No.” Eli pulls Nell behind him. He tells Siouxsie with a warning tone, “She’s mine.”

Since the strange fog is gone, some nurses and patients are watching them with interest. It’s a love triangle between the doctor, his little sister, and his wife. Both the doctor and his little sister love doctor’s wife. They don’t see this type of drama every day.

“Can’t you share a little?” His sister pulls a face. “Come on! She’s just my type.”

Loud gasps are heard. The little sister is asking for his brother to share his wife in bed? This is

“Everyone’s your type.” He utters the words slowly with his clenched jaw. “This is my woman. If you ever touch her”

He doesn’t finish his words. Nell is listening. He doesn’t want to show his cruel side in front of his wife.

“Fourth Brother doesn’t know how to share with his younger siblings.” Siouxsie could guess why his brother is holding himself back. She grins at him. “Fourth Brother, she has a delicious scent, right? You have strong control over your desire. I can barely hold myself back at this moment.”

“Siouxsie!” Nell coils her arms tightly around his arm when he steps toward Siouxsie. When he looks at Nell, she shakes her head.

Nell peeks at Siouxsie. “Umm Thanks for your interest, but I prefer if only your brother eats me.”

“Really?” Siouxsie wrinkles her forehead. Does this human know the meaning of those words? She looks at her brother who looks equally appalled as her. She gets closer and asks the little human with a low voice that only they could hear, “Do you know that we are ghouls?”

Eli opens his mouth wide. He didn’t expect his sister to say it out like this. He’s dead for sure. How would he ever explain this to his wife? She is going to leave him now.

“I know,” His wife replies calmly.

Wait, what? Eli turns around to face Nell. His wife gives him a nod. How did she find out? When did she find out? Why is she still here?

“I think that you are confused, Sister-in-law.” Siouxsie lets out a laugh. Her voice is faint. “Ghouls are creatures who eat human flesh well, we also eat other things, but I prefer humans the most.”

“I am not confused.” Nell smiles at her. “He already told me.”

When did he tell her? He only mentioned the word when he lied to her about Belinda. Does she think that Siouxsie is also like Belinda? Eli releases his breath.

“You are still with him.” Siouxsie looks at Nell with disbelief. “Are you really human?”

“No, I am homo sapiens.” Nell c.o.c.ks her head and laughs.

“But you have a human scent.” Siouxsie points at her with trembling hand.

“Why can’t homo sapiens have a human scent?” Nell questions her with a mischievous look in her eyes “If ghoul can look like a human, a homo sapien can also have a human scent.”

That makes sense. Her brother isn’t an idiot. He won’t marry a human. This homo sapien is so good that even her scent is human. Siouxsie turns to her brother. “Fourth Brother, where did you find this homo sapiens? I have never heard of them. Are homo sapiens rare creatures?”

Eli exhales. His head is hurting. He feels like he has just survived a catastrophe. He can already see another one coming toward him.
