The Abandoned Factory

Spots of blood sprayed over the wall, the drops gathering to form a line dripping on the scrap iron that lay on the ground. The smell of rusted iron mixed with blood created a pungent scent that was quite unpleasant to the nose.

Leaning against the edge of the wall was a man, face pale from the excessive blood loss. Though his left shoulder was almost seeping through, his mind still remained clear.

The door was closed tightly, but Wei Sushen still heard footsteps. He was skeptical at first, thinking they may just be a hallucination.

Squinting slightly, he saw that there actually was a shadowy figure approaching. Wei Sushen tried to reach for the iron rod beside him but in his current state he was too weak to hold it.

“Ahhh, fake booze is no good for me,” the man was unarmed and talking to himself, the remorse evident in his voice.

We Sushen quickly came to the conclusion they were not enemies. If they were, the man would have tried to kill him in his weaken state.

“You…” the man started to slur, before rushing over mumbling different words of relief.

At that moment, Fang Shan really felt that he would not be killed by heaven. Because he had drank too much and lost the host’s information, he only vaguely recalled that at this time, the host would be in danger and the location was in this factory.

As for the host’s name, what he looked like, his family situation etc, Fang Shan didn’t know anything.

His heart was filled with anxiety, the next time he took a host he really must do some prep work beforehand.

Cupping Wei Sushen’s face with his hands, he commented “Ahhh, look at these lips, they're so very thin; look at the face! Flawless! Fine jade! And these eyes, they’re like the stars in the sky!”

It’s certain! The chances this person right here is the host is fifty percent! When destiny chooses people’s fate to change, they never are the ones that look ugly.

To further confirm the host’s identity, Fang Shan quickly asked: “What are your family circumstances?”

Wei Sushen looked at him with sharp eyes, not saying a word.

Fang Shan: “Are you especially unwelcome at your house?”

This time Wei Sushen nodded.

Fang Shan let out a relieved sigh. “Good, good, you’re the right one. Let me introduce myself, I am System 666, and it’s detected that the host meets the required qualifications and is about to be bound to the system. Please choose whether or not to accept."

The only response was silence.

Fang Shan sighed. “Because of my carelessness, I can make a bit of an exception and offer a small benefit. The host can request whatever it is as long as it’s not too big, and it will be given as a newcomer gift package.”

Wen Sushen moved his blood-stained fingers, finally opening his mouth. His voice was hoarse as he said: “I- I want an ambulance.”

After saying that, he fainted dead away.

Fang Shan: “…”

The scent of disinfectant permeated the air. The entire experience had made Wei Sushen feel uneasy but he relaxed upon opening his eyes, finding himself in the hospital ward.

“You’re awake?”

A voice came from beside him, pleasantly surprised.

Having not moved for a period of time, Wei Sushen’s muscles were stiff and he turned his head to meet Fang Shan’s smiling face.

“The doctor said it was bodily wounds, mainly excessive blood loss. Any broken bones were also set.”

Wei Sushen: “I owe you one.”

Although the man was mentally unstable, he still saved Wei Sushen’s life.

“No need to thank me, I’ll do my very best to protect the host’s life.”

Wei Sushen ignored his mad rambling.

Fang Shan said earnestly: “Try to use your brain to connect to the system, you should be able to see the main panel.”

If it hadn’t been for him saving his life, Wei Sushen would have already asked someone to escort him out of the room.

“Just try it once,” Fang Shan looked steadily at him.

Wei Sushen wasn’t going to do any such thing but the other person had been nattering away about it like a parakeet. He unconsciously thought of the system and in an instant some information uncontrollably surfaced to the top of his mind.

Wei Sushen’s lip twitched, not caring to examine all of that.

That moment, door opened and the nurse who came in was quite pleased to see Wei Sushen awake. “Wait a moment, please,” she said, “I’ll go let the doctor know.”

Soon after, a doctor wearing a white coat came over and smiled. “You’re in very good condition.”

After a serious injury like that, most people would be out cold for at least a few days.

“But still,” the doctor continued, “you should stay in the hospital for a while longer, just for observation.”

Fang Shan piped up: “I used your card to pay the hospital fees. I’ll pay you back double later.” He waved his hand. “Consider it the newbie gift.”

Wei Sushen then asked the nurse if he could borrow a cell phone and made a call. Not long after that, several burly men wearing black clothes came into the room, followed by a man with phoenix eyes and mid-length hair. Seeing Wei Sushen covered in bandages, his eyes narrowed. “Damn you, Fangs.”

Fang Shan’s eyebrows raised. He never expected that the enemy to the host had the same surname as himself.

The man with phoenix eyes said: “I’m going through the discharge procedures. Several specialists are already on the way to give you a detailed physical examination.”

“Is there a psychiatric department?” Wei Sushen asked suddenly.

The phoenix-eyed man stopped, dumbfounded.

Wei Sushen: “Arrange first for a psychiatric assessment.”

Though he didn’t say anything out loud, he was already mulling over the things that had suddenly popped into his head.

The phoenix-eyed man’s gaze moved to Fang Shan, gentle and pretty, looking like a prim and pleasing young man. His brain worked quickly, if Wei Sushen’s enemy meant to finish him off, it was the person in front of him who most likely got him to the hospital.

“Hello, my name is Arthur,” the phoenix-eyed man gave a friendly smile.

Fang Shan shook hands with him. “That’s a pretty cool name.”

Arthur smiled again, giving no explanation for it.

The car that came to pick Wei Sushen up was one of a luxury model. Fang Shan stuck behind him like glue, and Wei Sushen didn't force him to leave. Though to make things clear, even if Fang Shan wanted to leave, Wei Sushen wouldn’t have let him.

“This car is yours?”

Fang Shan had sank halfway down into the leather seat and squirmed around in comfort.

Wei Sushen gave a light “en”.

Fang Shan’s eye lit up with an epiphany.

At almost the same time, the main panel surfaced automatically in Wei Sushan’s mind.

[Host: Wei Sushen

Wei Sushen’s eyelid twitched. “I’m not an illegitimate son.”

“There’s no need to feel inferior,” Fang Shan said comfortingly. “All the Chosen One’s have a hard life. If we have ten children born from wealthy families, nine of them are illegitimate.”

Wei Sushen pressed his hand to his temple, choosing to focus on the scenery outside of the window.

Arthur, who was driving, was confused, having no clue what the two were talking about.

Eventually the car stopped outside a private hospital. Arthur got out and started walking beside Wei Sushen. “Doctor Joseph is waiting inside already,” He paused for a moment and said hesitantly, “Laoban, are you sure you want to do a psychiatric assessment?”

Wei Sushen gave him a glance and Arthur instantly swallowed any doubts he had.

Doctor Joseph was thirty-seven years old and wore a pair of spectacles. His skin was flushed a bit more than normal and he spoke fluent Chinese.

The two men greeted each other briefly and Wei Sushan pointed to Fang Shan behind him. “Make an appointment for him as well.”

Fang Shan was taken by Doctor John’s assistant and after talking one-on-one for a bit, was made to do a few test questions.

“There’s nothing wrong, right?” Fang Shan’s demeanor was like an ordinary person’s, a mix of anxiousness and confidence.

The assistant smiled, “Don’t worry, it’s normal.”

Fang Shan had a relieved look on his face.

Then he sat back down on the corridor bench and waited for Wei Sushan to come out.

A door away, Wei Sushen and Doctor Joseph were sitting face to face.

“All indicators are fine,” Doctor Joseph looked through the report’s analysis. “There are a few psychological problems, mainly due to a paranoid personality.”

Of course that’s because Wei Sushen, of the Wei family, is known for being paranoid and ruthless. Doctor Joseph didn’t want to make any trouble for himself so he quickly skipped through it.

Wei Sushen: “Are a person’s abnormalities contagious?

Doctor Joseph was stunned by the question.

Wei Sushen asked again, “Is it possible that in certain situations, one person’s abnormalities can infect another through brain waves?”

Doctor Joseph: “…”

“Wei-xiansheng really is joking,” he said.

Wei Sushen’s slender fingers tapped on the table. “I want the exact answer.”

“There’s no possibility,” Doctor Joseph said.

At the bottom of his heart though, the doctor was apprehensive. Asking a question like that, could it be that Wei Sushen truly had an illness? But if so, why didn’t it appear on the test just now? Could it be some hidden type of schizophrenia?

Wei Sushen didn’t seem very satisfied with this answer. He stood up and opened the door, Fang Shang appearing in his view as soon as he did so.

The assistant handed Doctor Joseph Fang Shan’s report, who quickly glanced at him. “He had a normal mind and healthy mental state.”

Fang Shan showed a harmless smile, looking carefully at Wei Sushen again, a bit aggrieved.

Doctor Joseph saw Fang Shan weak and pitiful and couldn’t help but say: “Pardon my bluntness, but compared to Wei-xiansheng, he’s in a much better state mentally and psychologically.”

Upon viewing Wei Sushen’s expressionless face, Doctor Joseph did not elaborate on that.

As soon as the doctor left, Fang Shan dropped the pitiful act and returned to looking like a pleased little overlord.

Although Wei Sushen himself didn’t like to watch any of those messy and nonsensical dramas or novels, he had a brother with many different hobbies and so was more or less familiar with the idea of systems and infinite flow.

As if he could sense his doubts, Fang Shan took two steps forwards, opened his arms wide and suddenly disappeared. At the same time, a voice sounded in Wei Sushen’s mind. “I can personify myself, and if that’s not to your liking I can also provide possession services, where I speak directly to your mind!”

The voice disappeared, and Fang Shan appeared back in front of Wei Sushan again. Appear, disappear, appear, disappear again.

Fang Shang: “Look! No problems in and out whatsoever! This time you ought to believe it!”

Wei Sushen: “…”

Between being mentally ill and Fang Shan truly being a system, We Sushen chose the latter.

The pair were sitting on the bench, looking like a still taken from an old movie.

Wei Sushen: “I’m twenty-seven years old.”

Fang Shan hurried to add this information.

Wei Sushen was expressionless as he said: “I’ve had many life and death experiences. How come you didn’t appear until then?”

Fang Shan smiled and laughed. “There was a bit of an accident, so I was late for work.”

Wei Sushen: “…”

Fang Shan quickly backtracked: “Fortunately, we connected at the last moment, otherwise I would have been counted as absent without leave.”

Wei Sushen: “…”

Fang Shan: “Ahhh, don’t worry, I’m a licensed professional. So long as you are willing to work hard, I promise that all those who looked down and persecuted you in the past will pay a price!”

Wei Sushen: “…”

Authors Note: I was originally going to name the ML Wei Nanzhu/魏男主 (lit. Male Host/Proagonist), later it was changed to Su Shengnan/蘇剩男 (lit. leftover/ the remaining man)

Later, I felt that it was too far-fetched, so I took a few of the words and it became Wei Sushen...

PS: The System lost any of the host's data, so it'll all be re-entered after contact with the protagonist.

Translator Note: Ahhhhh hiiiii! I want to welcome everyone to this wonderful danmei! I don't really have much to say besides a few translation notes.

1: Arthur uses 您, or nin, which is the polite way of saying 'you'. He also calls WSS 'Laoban', or boss, but it's used in kinda a business-y way.

2: Fang Shan when drunk talks in a way where he emphasized WSS's featured, repeating certain verbs for affect which I just turned into 'ahhh' as an english way to express his enthusiasm.
